Three people received burns after pickets set fire to their vehicles in two incidents. Meanwhile, general secretary of BNP's Ward 3 unit Giasuddin received shotgun pellets in his thighs as Police opened fire on blockaders in Kadamtoli area. In Rangpur District, Altaf (45), a headmaster of Government Primary School died of his injuries at Rangpur Medical College Hospital. In Chandpur District, 10 people were injured in a clash between Awami League (AL) and BNP activists at Ramchandrapur Bazar. In Sirajganj District, 10 BNP men were injured during their clash with Police in Dhanbandhi area. In Chapainawabganj District, three people, including one Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personal, were injured when blockaders exploded handmade bombs at a truck convoy in Kansat. In Moulvibazar District, two people received burn injuries when blockaders set fire to a bus at Kowla area in Kulaura. In Dhaka city, two persons were injured. Seven people were killed and many others were injured during the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP)-led 20-party alliance's countrywide nonstop blockade on January 14, reports The Daily Star. In Rangpur District, five people, including a child, were burnt to death and 15 others were injured as alleged blockaders hurled a petrol bomb at Mithapukur sub-District in Rangpur District. Earlier, it was reported that four people, including a child, were burnt to death and 10 others suffered injuries. In Chittagong District, Muhamad Jubayer (21), a cadre of Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS), the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI), was crushed to death by a truck which they allegedly tried to torch on Chittagong-Cox's Bazar Highway in Lohagara. Two other ICS cadres were also injured. Police arrested 32 leaders and activists of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and ICS, during a 24-hour drive at different parts in Dhaka, reports The Daily Star. They were picked up on charges of planning subversive activities, said Masudur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner (media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police. Ainul Haq, the joint secretary of Jatiyatabadi Samaj Sangskrity Sangstha (Jasas), the socio-cultural wing of BNP, and Mosarraf, BNP press secretary of ward No. 68 unit, were among the arrestees, the DC said.
