Security Forces (SFs) killed two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants in an encounter and rescued a Police constable the duo had abducted from his Kulgam residence earlier in the evening on April 24, in Anantnag District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), reports The Times of India. A Policeman was also injured in the exchange of fire. The encounter comes a day after another Police constable was abducted by militants from Shopian District and later rescued. Soon after abducting constable Sartaj Ahmed Itoo, posted with Indian Railways, from his home in Sheerpora area in Yaripora in Kulgam on Friday evening, the militants were taking him away in a car when the vehicle was intercepted by a joint team of SFs at a checkpoint in Kharpora in Arwani area in Bijbehara.“The policemen signalled them to stop. The abductors, however, opened fire at the security personnel and were killed after a brief gunfight, while the constable was rescued. A group of Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres abducted parents of a Policeman in Gumiyapal village in Dantewada District of Chhattisgarh on July 6, reports The Times of India. Later on, July 7, they were, however, rescued by the villagers who went after the Maoists into the forest. The Superintendent of Police (SP) Abhishek Pallava said, the Maoists barged into the house of District Reserve Guard (DRG) Constable Ajay Telam in the said village and abducted his father Lachhu Telam (64) and mother Vijjo Telam (62). They also injured Telam’s sister and snatched her mobile phone before fleeing the spot. Outraged by the incident, about 150 villagers entered the forest on July 7, to negotiate with the Maoists for their release. The SP said that the villagers walked through rough hilly terrain until they reached the rebels’ lair deep in the forest. “This is a unique case where villagers managed to argue with the Maoist fiercely at a ‘Jan Adalat’ (People's/Kangaroo Court organised by the Maoists) to release someone branded a ‘Police informer’. They argued that the elderly parents do not use mobile phones, nor do they know how to access it. They have no means to contact Police,” the SP added.
