Eleven cadres of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) surrendered in front of Sukma Superintendent of Police (SP), Abhishek Meena in Sukma District on August 2, reports New Indian Express. The cadres include three women. They also surrendered two guns. Two of them were identified as Kunjam Hadma and Madvi Hidma, were carrying reward of INR 800,000. Similarly, Tati Sanki, a "Deputy Commander" rank cadre, was carrying a reward of INR 200,000 on her head. Two others -- Dirdo Deva, a member of Dornapal LOS (Local Operation Squad), and Kadti Hidme, chief of the Kisan Adivasi Mazdoor Sangathan (KAMS), a front organisation of CPI-Maoist cadres were carrying a reward of INR 100,000 on their heads.

A Police Sub-Inspector (SI) and a Constable were killed in an encounter with Communist Party of India (CPI-Maoist) cadres in the forest under Gatapar Police limits in Rajnandgaon District on August 6, reports The Pioneer. The skirmish took place this afternoon (August 6) when a specialised unit of the District Force was out on an anti-Maoist operation in the jungle near Bhave village under Gatapar Police Station area, Inspector General of Police (IGP) (Durg Range) Dipanshu Kabra said. On finding that security personnel were zeroing on them, the Maoists fled into the core area of the forest, the IG said, adding, after being informed about the incident, reinforcements were being rushed to the spot. "Sub-Inspector of Police Yugal Kishore Verma and Constable Krish Sahu were killed in the incident," Kabra said, adding while Verma died on the spot, Sahu succumbed to injuries while being evacuated from the forest.

Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) of Gujarat Police arrested Naxal [Left Wing Extremism (LWE)] ‘ideologue’, Tusharkant Bhattacharya (62), co-accused of Tappalapur killing with Kondapalli Seetharamaih and Mupalla Laxmana Rao aka Ganapathy in 1976, on charges of sedition, waging war against the State and others from Nagpur-bound Geetanjali Express on August 8, reports The Times of India. Bhattacharya was returning from Kolkata in West Bengal after meeting his sister when he was arrested. Gujarat intelligence agency team picked up Bhattacharya early morning on August 8 from the train at Durg in Chhattisgarh and brought him to Nagpur by road. He was flown to Mumbai from city on way to Ahmedabad. He was wanted in the case registered in 2010 at Kamrej Police Station in Surat, Gujarat. Nagpur-based Bhattacharya, who was in Cherlapally jail in Hyderabad between 2007 and 2013 after being arrested in Patna in 2007, was booked in the present case along with Pitla Narayan alias Arjun Madhu, his wife Rela Prashanthi alias Shweta, Kobad Ghandy and Seema alias Manju Hirani and Anand Ambedkar. In March 2012, Bhattacharya's elder brother Aseem was arrested by Andhra Pradesh Police and Maharashtra ATS from Dombivli along with three others Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres for Naxal activities.

A joint team of CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action), Special Task Force (STF) and District Force arrested five cadres of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) in two separate incidents in Bijapur and Narayanpur Districts on August 9, reports Indian Express. In first incident, the patrolling team of Security Forces (SFs) cordoned off a forest in the interiors of Gangaloor area near Modipara village in Bijapur District and arrested four Maoist cadres. The arrested cadres were identified as Manglu Hemla (35), Raju Tati (28), Ramu Hemla (30) and Hemla Budhu (35), all lower rung cadres. In second incident, SFs arrested a local CPI-Maoist ‘militia commander’ identified as Budhru Mandavi (23) from Kalmanar village in Narayanpur District. SFs recovered a CPI-Maoist banner and two pamphlets from his possession. All the arrested cadres were allegedly involved in arranging meetings and food for the Maoists, gathering information for them, damaging roads, spreading their propaganda and other offences, Police said.

Chhattisgarh is among other Left Wing Extremism infested States where highest 38 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) troopers were killed in 15 incidents of Maoist attacks during the past six months as on June, 30, 2017, the Central Government added. A joint squad of District Reserve Guard (DRG) and District Force arrested five cadres of the Communist party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) from the forests of Tongpal Police Station area in Sukma District on August 11, reports The Business Standard. Those arrested were identified as Dashru Dhruva (20), Gangaram Dhurva (32) and Hadma Madkami (30), all hailing from Malkangiri District of Odisha, while two others -- Madkami Somdu (32) and Vetti Sukda (35) belonged to Bastar District. Dashru was active as ‘Commander’ of Chetna Natya Manch (CNM) - the cultural wing of the CPI-Maoist cadres whereas remaining others were members of Dandakaranya Adivasi Kisan Mazdoor Sangathan (DAKMS) - a frontal organisation of CPI-Maoist. The Maharashtra Police busted a Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) camp on the border of Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra, and recovered weapons and horses on August 13, reports The Hindu. “A special team headed by Additional Superintendent of Police (operations) Maheshwar Reddy launched an anti-Maoist operation in Abujhmad on the border of Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra and Narayanpur district of Chhattisgarh. The encounter near Tundewra and Kupnar village forced the Maoists to flee leaving behind weapons and six horses. Six weapons and other material of daily use were also recovered at the camp site,” said the Gadchiroli Superintendent of Police (SP) in a release. This was the first time when horses were found in a Maoist camp. “Senior Maoist leaders like Bhupathi operate in Abujhmad and the horses may have been used for senior leaders,” the release added. Senior central committee leader Sonu Bhupati is chief of Dandakaranya range falling in areas of Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Police also seized three Bharmar (Muzzle loading) guns, items of daily use, and some Naxal [Left Wing Extremism (LWE)] literature from the spot.

This police team encircled the village and nabbed three Maoists,” said Santosh Singh, the Superintendent of Police (SP), Narayanpur District. The seized items include 77 arrow bombs, 43 grenades, 73 detonators (53 of them coupled with wire), cordex wire 4 bundles, a big drum packed with explosive powder, one air gun and its pallets, 86 gelatin sticks, 10 Kilograms sulphur powder, 11 packets of explosives, three meter fuse wire, one solar plate and three steel tiffin boxes. Deputy Inspector General of Police (Dantewada Range) (DIG), Sundarraj P told reporters that, “Prima facie, inputs revealed that the cadres were allegedly planning a big strike on security forces after Monsoon and had amassed these explosives for the same purpose.”

The CPI-Maoist cadres cited disappointment with "hollow" Maoist ideology and their "wrong" policies. The surrendered CPI-Maoist cadres were identified as Manish Salaam (21), Mandar Korram (30), Peelsai Korram (40), Roshan Padihar (41), Anulal Bhandari (37), Sampat (27), and Chunni Lal Bhandari (38). Salam was an active member of Maoists Dandakaranya instructor team and Antagarh Local Operation Squad (LOS), had been allegedly involved in the two attacks on Police party this year (2017) in Narayanpur and the neighbouring Kanker District. Salam was carrying INR 100,000 on his head.
