DIG Lewke, in a statement on the shooting incident in Ampara district on February 28, denied STF involvement in any form relating to this incident as alleged by the LTTE.

On March 2, two cease-fire monitors from the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) were reportedly attacked by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) cadres in Vavuniya. The monitors were investigating a complaint that two People's Liberation Organisation of Tamil Eelam (PLOTE) members had been forcibly detained by the LTTE. Later, the SLMM complained of the incident to the Vavuniya police.

Six civilians were shot dead on March 5 at Welikanda in the Polonnaruwa district by cadres of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). Among the dead is a suspected cadre of the ‘Colonel’ Karuna faction and four Muslims. Sri Lankan Army spokesperson, Brigadier Daya Ratnayake, stated that their investigations had revealed that the shooting occurred inside two houses in Welikanda. "From what we have gathered from our preliminary investigations, we suspect the LTTE to be behind the killings," he added. Three others, including a three-year-old girl, were injured in the attack.

In a statement issued on March 7, the World Bank Country Director for Sri Lanka, Peter Harrold, said that the bank has no intention of providing funds directly to the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). Harrold stated this in response to a call by the ruling coalition partner, Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), on March 6 to withdraw a statement by the former in an interview to the Sunday Times where he is quoted as recognising the LTTE controlled area as "a kind of unofficial state". Later, Harrold stated that he was misquoted and added that all funds for the North and East, "is disbursed through the official Government channel of the North East Provincial Council."
