The opposition United National Party, at a meeting chaired by its president and Leader of the Opposition, Ranil Wickremasinghe, has reportedly decided not to participate in the debate on the Bill. The Supreme Court has already held that, to be legally tenable, the Bill shall have to be passed by a two-thirds majority in Parliament and later approved by the people through a nationwide referendum.
