Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Gujranwala (Punjab) on January 7, issued an arrest warrant for banned Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) ‘chief’ Maulana Masood Azhar on the charges of terror financing, reports siasat.com. The warrant against Azhar was issued during a hearing in a terror financing case.“ATC Gujranwala judge Natasha Naseem Supra issued an arrest warrant for Masood Azhar and directed the CTD to arrest him and present him in the court. Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Sargodha arrested seven terrorists along with arms and explosive material from Girot in Khushab District of Punjab, Dawn reports on January 8. The CTD team arrested Amir Baz, Shahid, Musharraf Abbas, Bawaji and Adeel Abbas and two others linked with Sipah-i-Muhammad (SMP). The CTD spokesman said Bawaji and Adeel Abbas hailed from a village on Jhang Road and they were involved in terrorist activities. The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Gujranwala on January 8 asked the Punjab Police that the United Nation (UN) designated global terrorist Masood Azhar, chief of the banned Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), should be arrested by January 18 in connection with a terror financing case, reports The Times of India. “ATC Gujranwala judge Natasha Naseem Supra during the case hearing on Friday directed the CTD to arrest JeM chief Masood Azhar by January 18 and present him in the court. In case of failure (to arrest him), the court may begin proceedings to declare him a proclaimed offender,” a court official said. The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) of the Punjab Police on January 11 arrested two militants from Dera Ghazi Khan District, reports ARY News. According to the CTD, acting on a tip-off, the law enforcement team raided their hideout and arrested both of them. “The arrested accused wanted to target religious places,” the spokesman said adding that explosive material and weapons were recovered from their possession. Police arrested seven persons who were carrying a large cache of weapons outside the District and sessions court in Lahore, the provincial capital of Punjab, on January 12, reports Dawn. Security head Mubashir Awan said five guns were seized from the men, including Kalashnikovs. More than a thousand bullets and 15 magazines were also recovered, he added. Sanaullah Aman, a Sindhi activist against enforced disappearances, was abducted from Lahore, the provincial capital of Punjab, on January 28, reports The Balochistan Post. Sanaullah Aman, who was a student at Islamabad University, was arrested from Lahore and subsequently shifted to an undisclosed location.
