The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) claimed to have killed six suspected terrorists during an encounter on Faisalabad Bypass Road in Faisalabad District of Punjab on January 7, reports Daily Times. According to CTD Sheikhupura sources, the CTD Lahore on January 6 arrested two terrorists identified as Saadullah Khan and Jahanzeb Khan - allegedly involved in Gulshan Iqbal Park Lahore suicide blast. As per the details, the CTD Lahore team was taking the arrested terrorists to Kot Pindi Daas to arrest other terrorists when their alleged accomplices attacked the team and got released Saadullah Khan and Jahanzeb Khan. The incident led to a cross firing between Police party and suspected terrorists. Resultantly, six terrorists were killed while three others managed to escape. The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) personnel shot dead four suspected militants belonging to a banned outfit near the Sheikhupura Bypass in Sheikhupura District of Punjab in the wee hours of January 18, reports The News. CTD officials claimed that they had been tipped off by intelligence sources regarding the presence of the suspected terrorists. Upon reaching the place, an armed conflict initiated between the CTD officials and the suspected militants. Four alleged terrorists were gunned down by CTD while three managed to flee. Exception The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) arrested two LashkareJhangvi (LeJ) militants during raided on a house on Airport Road near railway line in Bahawalpur District of Punjab around 3pm on January 23, reports Dawn. A CTD spokesman said they received information about the presence of ‘terrorists’ planning to attack some installation in Bahawalpur. A CTD team raided the house on Airport Road and arrested two LeJ militants, identified as Khalid Mahmood and Sajjad. Explosive material and two live grenades were recovered from their possession. SemAn AntiTerrorism Court (ATC) of Bahawalpur District in Punjab on January 28 jailed two militant for 45 years for carrying explosives and illegal weapons, reports Daily Times. According to details, Riaz and Peerakh were found guilty of carrying explosives and illegal in the Kot Sabzal Police Station in 2014. After hearing arguments, ATC Judge Khalid Arshad sentenced them to 45 years. The court also ordered to confiscate their property and imposed Rs 500,000 fine each. Read less...

The Punjab Home Department on January 28 issued a warning against possible terrorist attacks in Lahore, the provincial capital of Punjab, reports Daily Times. According to the notification, TehreekeTaliban Pakistan (TTP) trained boys aged about 10 to 12 years are currently in and around major cities of the country including Punjab. Upon investigation an arrested little boy revealed that he was tasked to attack an educational institute close to Abdali Chowk in Lahore. The Punjab Government on January 30 issued orders to place JamaatudDawa (JuD) chief Hafiz Saeed under house arrest, reports Dawn. The Government launched a crackdown against JuD and a heavy contingent of Police was deployed around the JuD headquarter and offices in Muridke and Lahore. “A large police team arrived (at JuD headquarters) and told us that Hafiz would be placed under house arrest,” said the secretary of information for JuD, Nadeem Awan. Awan said the Police told them they had an arrest warrant for Saeed and five others at JuD headquarters. Hafiz Saeed was reportedly present at the Qudsia Mosque located in Chauburji area of Lahore. Contingents of Police and other lawenforcing agencies reached the area and surrounded the premises, sources said.  Police sources further informed that Saeed will be shifted to his residence in the Johar Town area of the provincial capital, Lahore, which will then be declared as a subjail. Saeed has been detained under Section 11EEE (1) of the AntiTerrorism Act, 1977, a notification issued by the Interior Ministry said. Meanwhile, the District intelligence committee has suggested it to the Government to put the JuD chief’s name in fourth schedule. Moreover, national flags have been hoisted at the JuD offices in Lahore, instead of party flags, on the directives of provincial home department, it added.
