Swat TTP spokesman Umar Hassan Erabi phoned media persons and accepted responsibility of Farooq’s killing. “Dr Farooq was propagating against the TTP and had written anti-Taliban books,” the spokesman said. At least 10 Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants and one soldier were killed in an operation against militants in different parts of the Mardan District in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on October 12, reports Daily Times. The sources said that the Army along with Police on October 11, started a two-day joint operation against militants in various parts of Mardan including included Matta, Ghuando, Shamozai and Shikray Baba areas of Katlang tehsil (revenue unit), Sawaldher, Bakhshali and Guli Bagh areas, after the killing of renowned religious scholar and Swat Islamic University vice chancellor Dr Muhammad Farooq. The sources added that around 800 suspected terrorists had also been arrested in the operation.

Professor Ajmal Khan, the cousin of Awami National Party (ANP) chief Asfandyar Wali Khan was abducted on September 7. In the video tape, Khan is shown wearing a traditional Pashtun cap with a beard, and with two masked men holding Kalashnikov assault rifles standing behind him. “I am a heart patient and cannot live here any longer.
