Balochistan Home Secretary Akbar Hussain Durrani on November 8 admitted an increase in wall-chalking with slogans in support of militant group Islamic State (IS) but denied claims of the presence of its militants on ground in the Province, reported The Express Tribune. “The letter regarding the activity of IS was routine information of officers which had been passed to the Federal Government. There was nothing serious about IS in Balochistan,” Durrani said, referring to media reports that the Provincial Government has conveyed a report to the Federal Government and Law Enforcement Agencies warning of increased footprints of IS in the Province. “We routinely send letters regarding the activities that happen in Balochistan. Neither IS exists nor their sympathisers in Balochistan,” he added.

Pakistan's security agencies have warned the Government about the increasing threat from the (Islamic State) ISIS militant group, reported The Times of India quoting a media report of November 8, 2014. A classified report by the Provincial Government of Balochistan conveyed to the Federal Government and law enforcement agencies warning of increased footprints of the Middle Eastern terrorist group, also known by its Arabic acronym of "Daish". The Dawn reported on its website that the 'secret information report' dated October 31 states that ISIS has claimed to have recruited a massive 10,000 to 12,000 followers from the Hangu District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Kurram Agency of federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA). "It has been reliably learnt that Daish has offered some elements of Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) and Ahl-e-Sunnat-Wal-Jama'at (ASWJ) to join hands in Pakistan. Daish has also formed a 10-member Strategic Planning Wing," the report from the Home and Tribal Affairs Department of Balochistan said. The report states that the ISIS plans to attack military installations and government buildings in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in retaliation to the army-led Operation Zarb-e-Azb in North Waziristan Agency of FATA and also plans to target members of the Shia community.

At least five people, including a Hindu vendor and a teenage boy, were killed while two others were critically wounded when unknown armed assailants opened fire at multiple shops on Usman Road in Balochi Street of Quetta on November 12, reports The Express Tribune. According to an official of Gawalmandi Police Station, masked militants on motorbikes opened fire at a barber shop, a tailor shop, and a Hindu vendor in downtown Quetta. The victims were identified as Sunil Jani (the Hindu vendor), Khalid Bila, Irfan, Shakir (14) and Naveed Qureshi. No outfit claimed responsibility for the attack. “The attackers barged into the shops and opened fire from very close range,” said Ghulam Yassen, a barber who sustained leg injuries. “They went to other shops and opened fire.” Police said the investigation has begun and it could be a case targeting settlers of ethnicities other than Baloch in the Province. Excluding a Hindu vendor, all victims are said to be settlers—those who’ve settled in Quetta from other Provinces.
