A dozen militants belonging to the Marri tribe laid down their arms and surrendered before Security Forces in Kohlu District on February 1, reports The Express Tribune. “Twelve militants laid down their arms in the presence of Provincial Minister for Energy and Irrigation Jangayz Marri and Commandant Mewand Rifles Masroorur Rehman,” a statement issued by FC Balochistan said. It added that all 12 of them had been involved in anti-state activities. According to the FC Balochistan spokesman, the militants, while laying down their arms, promised not to support any anti-state elements and vowed to live a peaceful life as law-abiding citizens of Pakistan.

A Hindu doctor, Dr Manoj Kumar, was released on February 2 by abductors in Hazar Ganji area of Quetta after the payment of PKR 14 million as ransom on February 1, 2015, reports Dawn. Dr Kumar had been abducted from Industrial Police Station area of Quetta on December 2, 2014. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations Quetta Aetezzaz Goraya said that the Hindu doctor was set free after payment of ransom. Speaking to media representatives after the release, Dr Kumar said, "I do not know where I was kept. I was kept in one small room and I was unaware about the outer world." He said the captors were providing only one meal to him in twenty four hours. "I was set free following payment of ransom," he added.

According to Police, two rooms of the shrine were destroyed and all religious books turned to ashes. The shrine was built in 1948 in memory of Pir Tahir Al Gilani al-Baghdadi, who migrated from Baghdad (Iraq) and settled in Mach. Meanwhile, the Jama'at-e-Ahl-e-Sunnat Pakistan (JASP) condemned the incident and held demonstrations in Quetta and Mach. While addressing the protesters in Quetta, JASP leaders Mufti Mohammad Sajid Qadri, Qari Noor Mohammad and Allama Ghazi Kamal called for extending the Zarb-e-Azb military operation to entire country.

A Policeman, identified as Zaiullah, guarding polio volunteers was killed and one child was injured when unidentified militants opened fire at the polio team on Sirki Road in Quetta on February 4, reported Dawn. Meanwhile, an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Quetta on February 4 accepted the application of former President General (retired) Pervez Musharraf with regards to exemption from appearance in court in a case pertaining to the August 26, 2006, murder of former Baloch nationalist leader Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti, reports Dawn. The court, however, expressed anger over the performance of Director General Balochistan Naseer Baloch with regards to his slow progress on submitting Musharraf's medical report. It subsequently adjourned the hearing of the case to February 25, 2015. Advocate Sohail Rajput, counsel of Nawabzada Jamil Akbar Bugti, confronted Musharraf's lawyer Akhtar Shah outside the court and said that the latter was ready to fly to Saudi Arabia which required travelling for four hours, but he was reluctant to travel for one hour to arrive in Quetta. Five employees of a private company working on the reconstruction of Shadi Kour dam near Pasni in Gwadar District were released in Blangur area of the District on February 5-6, reported Dawn. They were abducted on February 2, 2015. Baloch Republican Army (BRA) had claimed responsibility for the kidnapping. According to official sources, the militants released two drivers on February 5, 2015 and the rest of the employees, including a resident engineer of the company, on February 6, 2015. The company has stopped work on the project after the abduction of its employees. Zahir Khan, a contractor said, “The organisation responsible for the kidnapping has asked us to abandon work on the project.”

According to details Security Forces (SFs) had launched a search operation in Khori village of Basima area when a group of militants hiding inside a bunker suddenly started firing at them. “As result of the firing, a security official was killed and three others wounded,” said an unnamed FC spokesperson. In retaliatory firing, FC killed at least 15 militants belonging to BLF. SFs recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition from the site.

A key 'commander' of Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ), identified as Usman Saifullah Kurd, and his companion were killed while two Frontier Corps (FC) personnel were injured in a raid conducted by FC in Sariab area of Quetta on February 15, reported The Express Tribune. A third of their accomplice was arrested unhurt. Kurd had been convicted by an Anti-Terror Court in 2003 for masterminding two sectarian attacks in Quetta. He had escaped from the high security Quetta cantonment jail in 2008, following which the Government imposed a bounty of PKR 2.5 million on him. According to security sources, Kurd was believed to be the mastermind of the January 31, 2015, Shikarpur imambargah attack in Sindh, adds Dawn. Intelligence sources also said that he had close contacts to both al Qaeda and the Afghan Taliban.
