Speaking on the occasion of the passing-out parade of the sixth batch of Balochistan’s youth who have joined the Pakistan Army, comprising 944 recruits, Balochistan Governor Muhammad Khan Achakzai on December 5 said that all nefarious designs and conspiracies of foreign elements against Balochistan, the Federally Administered Tribal Areas and Karachi would be frustrated with national unity and joint efforts of the Government and security forces, reports Dawn. The Government of Balochistan on December 7 extended the Policing powers of Frontier Corps (FC) in Quetta for another three months, reports Dawn. The Policing powers of FC had expired recently and were extended by the Provincial Government to maintain law and order situation in the city, a Balochistan Home Department source said. Giving details, the source revealed that the extension in powers of FC will be effective till February 16, 2016. "The government decided to grant policing powers to FC to maintain order," the source said. However, Balochistan Chief Minister Dr. Abdul Malik Baloch, claimed to have achieved more than 60 per cent peace in Quetta as compared to the past. "The number of blasts and incidents of targeted killings have considerably dropped in Quetta", said Dr. Baloch.

The Adviser to the Chief Minister on Education Sardar Raza Mohammad Barrech said on December 17 that over 1.6 million children of school-going age, two-thirds of them girls, were deprived of education in Balochistan, reports Dawn. He said it was a matter of serious concern that girls in such a large number were not enrolled in schools because of their shortage. About 12,000 of the 22,000 plus settlements in the province had government-run schools but most of them lacked facilities. Realising the gravity of those issues, he said, the Provincial Government had allocated massive funds for education sector and planned to open maximum number of schools.

The SFs retaliated and killed one of the militants while seizing a sizeable cache of arms and ammunition." He claimed that a total of 1,973 intelligence based-operations were conducted in Balochistan and arrestede the elements involved in targeted killings, bomb explosions and kidnappings. An engineer, Mohammad Shoaib, associated with a survey team working on a dam was killed and two others were injured when unidentified assailants opened fire in Ormara area of Gwadar District in Balochistan on December 31, reports Dawn.
