Two ‘district committee members’ of the Maoists, identified as Pashupat Mahato and Bidur Baitha, were killed in the Kanakpur area of Rautahat district, while another Maoist ‘area committee member’, Tal Bahadur Shahi, was killed in the Seri area of Mugu district. Troops reportedly recovered a pistol, socket bombs, combat dresses and different materials for logistical support from the slain insurgents. Further, SFs defused a ‘bucket bomb’ placed by the insurgents at Charbahini road in Nepalginj, Banke district, and six other bombs in different areas of the Kanchanpur district on April 3.

Nepal News quoting a statement released by the Royal Nepalese Army (RNA) has reported that security forces (SF) have killed at least seven Maoist insurgents during separate operations in the last 24 hours. On April 7, a Maoist 'district secretary' and an 'area committee secretary' were killed in an encounter at Okhara in the Dang district and another insurgent at Bhaisahi in Rautahat district. Further, two Maoists, identified as Bijaya Adhikari and Kamal B.K alias Nekon, were killed in a security operation at Poripali in the Jajarkot district on April 6. On the same day, one Maoist, identified as Baburam, was shot dead in an encounter at Manpur in Dang district. An unspecified quantity of socket bombs, combat dresses, money and Maoist literature were recovered from the slain insurgents.

A statement released by the RNA’s Department of Public Relations said thousands of insurgents attacked the base on April 7-evening and the fighting continued till the next day. It also said the RNA had recovered bodies of 50 insurgents and 31 guns from the incident site. While the RNA did not disclose fatalities on the troops’ side, it quoted eyewitnesses as saying that the number of slain Maoists could be much higher. This is reportedly the first major offensive attempted by the insurgents against the RNA after the February 1 royal takeover.
