Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML)Chairman KP Sharma Oli on May 10 rejected Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba’s proposal to back the constitution amendment bill, reports The Himalayan Times. Deuba had gone to Oli’s residence in Balkot village of Bhaktapur District seeking the main opposition party’s support for the bill tabled in the Parliament. Oli rejected Deuba’s proposal, saying that the constitution amendment bill had failed to prove its relevance and therefore his party would not support the bill in its present form. In the meeting, Oli also demanded that the second phase local polls be held before May 29 and the Government brings the budget as per the constitutional provision.

Dahal added that he decided to resign from the premiership as per the “gentleman agreement” that was reached with the Nepali Congress (NC) before the formation of the Coalition Government in August 2016. Praising his 295-day long tenure, Dahal highlighted his exemplary step to successfully conclude the first phase of local level elections in Provinces 3, 4 and 6. He also hoped for successful and peaceful conclusion of second phase of civic polls in 41 Districts of Province number 1,2,5, and 7 on June 14. Dahal further said his Government was able to forge consensus with the Madhes-centric parties for the second phase of local elections by adding 22 local bodies in the Tarai Districts.

Earlier, as many as 90 ballot papers were found to be torn by cadres of the Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist Centre (CPN-Maoist Centre)in Bharatpur Metropolitan City of Chitwan District when the ballot papers were counted in the presence of 46 persons including political party representatives, candidates, Chief District Officer and security officials, as directed by the Election Commission on May 31, reports The Himalayan Times. According to Chief Returning Officer Kabi Prasad Neupane, of the 2, 897 votes cast in ward number 19, as many as 1,809 votes have already been counted. “998 papers have been torn in such a way that they cannot be counted. 90 were found to have completely destroyed,” said Neupane.
