At least 30 people have been injured in clash between the local workers and the Unified Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist (Unified CPN-Maoist) cadres in Pokhara on May 4, reports Nepal News. At the same time, incidents of violence were reported at some places. About 30 Maoist cadres carrying bamboo sticks attacked around a dozen shops in Anamnagar and Ghattekulo area in Kathmandu for defying the general strike. In Satungal and Naikap, the local residents counter attacked the Maoist cadres. Similarly, locals in Biratnagar also chased away the Maoist cadres after they forced shops to close down.

The Government tabled a bill in the Parliament for amendment in the Interim Constitution on May 17, proposing to extend the term of the Constituent Assembly (CA) by one year, reports Nepal News. Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal held discussion with 10 political parties in the ruling coalition and got their approval for amendment in the statute. The 10 parties concluded that the CA needs one more year to write the new constitution since completing the task by May 28 is impossible. The main opposition Unified Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist (Unified CPN-Maoist) has already said it will not go for extension of the CA's term unless the present Government steps down. Two third majority of the House is required to pass the bill and the Government will have to convince the Maoists to ensure its passage.
