The Maoists’ indefinite blockade in capital Kathmandu has affected the transportation of goods and people in and out of the valley. However, Government spokesperson Gopendra Bahadur Pandey said there were no reports on untoward incidents or violence during the first day of the blockade. A Nepal News report quoting the British Broadcast Corporation interview with pro-Maoists trade union leader of All Nepal Trade Union Federation (ANTUF), Shalikram Jamarkattel, said "end of the blockade was up to the government… We will withdraw it as soon as they fulfill our demands. Otherwise it will continue." In response to the Maoists ‘execution order’ for 10 journalists and increasing threat upon press freedom in the country, Nepali media professionals and publications took out a rally in Kathmandu against the killing of Dekendra Raj Thapa, a journalist killed by the insurgents in Dailekh district.
