The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) along with Jharkhand Police killed five cadres of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), including two Bihar-Jharkhand special area committee (BJSAC) members carrying a reward of INR 2.5 million each, and destroyed a Maoist camp in an intelligence-based operation in Grahe Forest area under the Lawalong Police Station limits in Chatra District of Jharkhand on April 3, reports The Times of India. During the search operation following the encounter dead bodies of five Maoists along with automatic weapons were recovered. Modern weapons, ammunition and other essential items were also recovered from the camp of Maoists busted in the operation. The five Maoists killed have been identified as Gautam Paswan, BJSAC member carrying a reward of INR 2.5 million; Ajit Oraon alias Charlis, BJSAC member with an INR 2.5 million reward; Amar Ganjhu, ‘sub-zonal commander’ with a reward of INR 500,000; Ajay Yadav alias Nandu, ‘sub-zonal commander’ with a reward of INR 500,000; and Sanjeet Bhuiyan, ‘sub-zonal commander’. CRPF sources said two AK-47 rifles, one INSAS (Indian Small Arms System) assault rifle, two other rifles, hundreds of ammunitions and other items of daily use were among the recoveries.

On April 5, Security Forces (SFs) arrested a Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadre, identified as Nand Kishore Yadav, who suffered gunshot injury during an encounter at Chatra District of Jharkhand on April 3, and managed to flee, reports ANI. "In continuation to encounter of 3 April 2023 wherein 5 Maoists were neutralised by troops of 203 CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action), 134 Bn and Jharkhand Police at Chatra, security forces have today [April 5] arrested a Maoist named Nand Kishore Yadav who suffered gunshot injury during the encounter. One INSAS (Indian Small Arms System) assault rifle along with 15 rounds were also recovered from his possession," said the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in a statement. Earlier, South Asia Terrorism Portal (SATP) had reported the encounter incident on April 3, 2023, in which five Maoists, including two Bihar-Jharkhand special area committee (BJSAC) members carrying a reward of INR 2.5 million each, were killed in an intelligence-based operation in Grahe Forest area under the Lawalong Police Station limits in Chatra District.

Sahu has invested the money collected by CPI-Maoist regional ‘commander’ Ravindra Gaunjhu in the form of levy in his brick kiln business and purchased land in Kuru block in Lohardaga District and Ranchi District.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) started interrogating two Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres, identified as Muneshwar Ganju and Govind Birijiya, probing a terror funding case in Ranchi of Jharkhand, reports lagatar24.com on April 13. The duos arrested during Operation Bulbul, are considered close to CPI-Maoist ‘regional commander’, Ravindra Ganjhu. On February 21, 2022, in the Bulbul Forest of Lohardaga, a conspiracy was hatched to blow up the Security Forces (SFs) and loot their weapons. To carry out the attack, Ravindra Ganjhu along with his 45 to 50 cadres had attacked the Police. Security personnel recovered a cache of arms and ammunition besides explosives from the spot. After this, an FIR was lodged against 17 Maoists, including Ravindra Ganjhu at Peshrar Police Station. Taking over the same FIR, the NIA has started its investigation.

The Communist Part of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) has called two-day bandh (general shut down strike) in Bihar and Jharkhand on April 14 and 15, reports The Times of India on April 13. Maoists dropped hand-written posters at some places in Bhadwar, Raushanganj and Banke Bazaar areas in Imamganj block of Gaya District of Bihar on April 12, regarding the bandh call. According to texts of the poster issued by Bihar-Jharkhand regional committee of the CPI-Maoist, the bandh has been called in protest against the killing of five members of the CPI-Maoist in Chatra District in Jharkhand on April 3. However, essential services have been exempted from the bandh, the poster read. Maoists, in the poster, have also announced to avenge the killings of their cadres and the Peoples Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) has already started working on it.

A two-day bandh (general shutdown strike) called by the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) affected normal life in three Police Station areas in Palamu District of Jharkhand on April 14, reports The Print. Many shops remained shut and few public transport vehicles were visible on the roads in areas under Hariharganj, Pipra and Naudiha Police Stations. The bandh, beginning Friday (April 14), has been called by the CPI-Maoist to protest a recent Police encounter in which five Maoists were killed, a senior Police officer said, adding that the districts that have been asked to be alert are Palamu, Latehar, Garhwa, Chatra, Hazaribagh and Lohardaga. Earlier, South Asia Terrorism Portal (SATP) had reported that the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) along with Jharkhand Police killed five cadres of the CPI-Maoist, including two Bihar-Jharkhand special area committee (BJSAC) members carrying a reward of INR 2.5 million each, and destroyed a Maoist camp in an intelligence-based operation in Grahe Forest area under the Lawalong Police Station limits in Chatra District of Jharkhand on April 3, 2023. The two-day (April 14-15) Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) bandh (general shut down strike) in western parts of Jharkhand against the killing of five Maoists in an encounter conducted by Police in Chatra on April 3, remained peaceful till Saturday (April 15), the concluding day, reports The Times of India. Latehar Superintendent of Police (SP), Anjani Anjan said the special operation procedures prescribed by the Police headquarters for such bandhs were followed. They also kept vigil on public establishments, development work sites, highways and railway tracks. The bandh had no impact in Garhwa District, sources said.

During the operation, a large cache of explosives like detonators were recovered from the camp, along with other incriminating material.
