Twenty-seven cadres of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), five carrying cash rewards on their heads, surrendered at Barsoor Police Station in Dantewada District Chhattisgarh on November 1, reports The Pioneer. According to Police the surrendered Maoists were saying they were impressed by the Police rehabilitation drive and dejected with the Maoists for which they have surrendered. Of the 27, 11 cadres are from Gufa village, seven from Bedma, five from Mangnar, three from Hitawada and one from Handawada in the district, Dantewada, Superintendent of Police (SP), Abhishek Pallav said, without disclosing their identity citing security reasons. They were active as members of the Dandakaranya Adivasi Kisan Mazdoor Sangathan (DAKMS) and Krantikari Mahila Adivasi Sangathan (KAMS), frontal wings of the Maoists, Chetna Natya Mandali (CNM), a cultural body of the Maoists, and Jan-militia groups, Pallav said.

A civilian was allegedly killed by Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres on suspicion of being a ‘police informer’in the forest near Karhi village in Dhamtari District of Chhattisgarh on November 3, reports The Economic Times. The slain civilian was identified as Niresh Kumar Kunjam (35), a native of Ujravan village, had gone to his paddy elds in Karhi village and was subsequently found dead in the forestnear Karhi village under Mechka Police Station area in the District. The deceased was the husband of Radhika Kunjam, the village Sarpanch(head of the Panchayat, village level local self-Government institution)of Karhi villagePanchayat, Police said. A hand-written pamphlet was found stuck on a tree, in which the Sitanadi Area Committee of Maoists claimed responsibility for the killing and accused Kunjam of acting as a ‘police informer’, Police said, ruling out the deceased's association with Police.

A civilian was injured when a pressure Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres exploded near Edasmeta hill under Gangaloor Police Station area in Bijapur District of Chhattisgarh on November 3, reports Yahoo News.The blast occurred when Ramesh Hemla and two other residents of Nainpal village had gone to collect bamboo from the forest near Edasmeta hill, Police said.While walking on a dirt track, the victim accidentally touched the IED switch, triggering the blast that caused splinter injuries on his hand, the Police said, adding that two other villagers escaped unhurt.The explosive was planted by Maoists to target Security Forces (SFs), as the route is often used by them during anti-Naxal operations, Police said.

A Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadre was killed in an encounter with Police in a forest near Kamalpur village under the Usoor Police Station area in Bijapur District of Chhattisgarh on November 3, reports The New Indian Express. When a patrolling team was cordoning off the forest near Kamalpur, Maoists opened fire at Police personnel, triggering retaliation. The Maoists soon escaped from the spot taking cover of dense forests along a hill, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Bastar range, Sundarraj P, said. "During a search, the body of a Naxal [Left Wing Extremist, LWE], two rifles, as many bags, Maoist literature and materials of daily use were recovered from the spot", the IGP said. The identity of the slain Maoist was yet to be ascertained, but prima facie it seems he belonged to Usoor LOS (Local Organisation Squad) of Maoists, the IGP added.

The cadres, who were active in the Malangir Area Committee of the CPI-Maoist, gave themselves up before Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) officials, Dantewada, Superintendent of Police (SP), Abhishek Pallava said. The surrendered Maoists whose identities are yet to be ascertained, said they were impressed by the Police's surrender-cum-rehabilitation campaign 'Lon Varratu' (Homecoming) and disappointed with the Maoist ideology. Of the 10, five collectively carried a reward of `10 lakh on their heads, SP, Pallava said.

A Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadrewas killed while two Security Force (SF) personnel were injured in a gun battle near Bhattiguda village in the Pamed Police Station limits in Bijapur District of Chhattisgarh on November 8, reports The Pioneer.Inspector General of Police (IGP), Bastar, Sundarraj P said, the District Reserve Guard (DRG), Special Task Force (STF) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF)'s Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) personnel were carrying out a counter-insurgency operation along the Chhattisgarh-Telangana border since November 7. He further said, "The encounter took place when the patrolling team was cordoning off a forest at Makrajgatta hill this morning. One Naxalite [Left Wing Extremist, LWE] was killed and a huge quantity of explosives was found at the spot."CoBRA 204th Battalion's Constable Sandip Ghosh and Constable Chandu Kadti of the District Police sustained leg injuries after stepping on an iron spike trap set up by the Maoists, the IGP said. The identity of the slain Maoist is yet to be ascertained.

Six Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres, including a woman, were arrested from separate places in Bijapur District of Chhattisgarh on November 9, reports The Times of India. Three of them were arrested from the forest of Damavaram village under Pamed Police Station limits, while the rest three were arrested from Basaguda. In Pamed, when a patrolling team was returning after a brief gunfight with Maoists, it saw three suspects who were trying to plant explosives, Police said. "Madvi Bichchem (30), Uika Rama (26) and woman cadre Uika Lakhi were caught and a pipe bomb, wire, batteries and switch were recovered. Ultras Kunjam Linga (25), Kowasi Masa (27) and Kowasi Sukram (32) were arrested from Basaguda," the Police added.

Accepting the demand of the Chhattisgarh Government, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (UMHA) will deploy five extra battalions of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Bastar region, reports Hindustan Times on November 16. The officials,on November 16, said that Chhattisgarh Chief Minister (CM), Bhupesh Baghel, in September 2020, wrote a letter to Union Home Minister (UHM) Amit Shah and urged him for deployment of seven battalions of (CRPF) in Bastar region-- sanctioned in 2018-- and also for installation of mobile towers.“Taking cognisance of the demand, the union home minister has decided to send five battalions as soon as possible,” said a senior official privy to the development.The official further stated that CM,Baghel wrote a letter to home minister Amit Shah, on November 12, and thanked him for accepting the demand and also made some suggestions to eradicate Maoism from Bastar region.“Out of the seven additional CRPF battalions allocated to the state in 2018, five battalions were immediately directed to be deployed in the Bastar region. As per the information I’ve received, a special recruitment rally for Indian Army is being considered in Bastar division in March 2021 to provide employment opportunities to the youth of Bastar while giving them a chance to render a national service. With your kind initiative on both of these subjects, we will reach a decisive edge in the anti-Naxal campaign,” CM, Baghel stated in his letter.

A Police personal from the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS), identified as Nirmal Kumar Shah, was injured when an Improvised Explosive Device(IED), planted by the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), exploded in Bijapur District of Chhattisgarhon November 20, reports Zee News. The explosion took place on Gorna-Mankeli road, where a team of Security Force (SF) personnel along with the BDS of the District Voluntary Force (DVF) was carrying out a demining operation to ensure safety during road construction work. In the operation, the team detected an IED packed in a steel box and planted beneath the dirt track and neutralised it, while another bomb connected to a pressure switch exploded when it was being removed, said an official.

Three bodies of the rebels, including a woman cadre, in uniform were recovered from the encounter site. In their statement, the cadres cited disappointment with "hollow" Maoist ideology and exploitation of lower rung cadres by senior leaders of the organization, Superintendent of Police (SP), Siddharth Tiwari, said adding that their identities have been kept secret in view of their safety.
