Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres abducted a youth, identified as Hadma Avlam (28), and killed him suspecting him to be a ‘police informer’, in Bijapur District of Chhattisgarh on May 1, reports The Times of India. Hadma and five or six of his friends had gone to a nearby forest in a tractor to collect wood to build a house. While they were returning, Maoists waylaid the group and abducted him. Hadma was hacked to death with an axe while his friends escaped under the cover of darkness. The Maoists dumped the body in a farm in Turenar locality of Tarrem to terrorise villagers.

A Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) ‘deputy commander’, identified as Nandlal alias Amlu Netam (38), was killed in an encounter with Security Forces (SFs) in Gariyaband District of Chhattisgarh on May 2, reports The Indian Express. During the subsequent search operations, Netam, dressed in his uniform, was found dead with an outdated .303 rifle lying next to him. Netam joined the Maoists in 2009 and worked as an ‘area committee’ member. He was also a part of the ‘Local Organisational Squad (LOS)’ which looks after politics and organisation. “He had a bounty of Rs 5 lakh [INR 500,000] on him. We found explosives and Naxal material from the spot as well,” said Gariyaband Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Amit Kamble.

A Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadre, identified as Motu Ram Mandavi alias Manoj Mandavi, who carried a bounty of INR 500,000, surrendered before Superintendent of Police (SP) Pushkar Sharma in Narayanpur District of Chhattisgarh on May 2, reports The Times of India. Mandavi is a native of the forest village of Marameta in Bhairamgarh, around 40 kilometres from Bijapur district headquarters. Police say he was with the Maoists since 2009 and was a 'local organizational squad' (LOS) ‘commander’. Mandavi was involved in at least three major attacks - the murder of a villager in Kachhapal village in 2010 and two ambushes on security forces at Kodaliyar Michpara and Kutul Michingpara in 2013.

Security personnel discovered the IED planted beneath the ground during a de-mining exercise in the area and averted a major mishap, an official said, adding that the explosive was neutralised by a team of the bomb disposal squad (BDS).

Two cadres of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), including a woman cadre, were killed in an encounter with a team of District Reserve Guard (DRG) personnel who were out on an anti-Naxal [Left Wing Extremism, LWE] operation, in a forest near Danteshpuram village under Bheji police station limits in Sukma District of Chhattisgarh on May 8 (today), reports latestly.com. The Maoists opened fire on the DRG's patrolling team following which the gun-battle broke out, and after guns fell silent, bodies of two Maoists were recovered from the spot. The slain Maoists were identified as Madkam Erra, who was active as ‘commander’ of Golapalli Local Organisation Squad (LOS), and Madkam Bhime, ‘deputy commander’ of the same squad, an official said, adding that both, Erra and Bhime, were carrying rewards of INR 800,000 and INR 300,000 respectively on their heads. A cache of explosives and an automatic weapon were recovered from the encounter site, the official said.

A Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadre, whose identity is yet to be ascertained, was killed in an encounter with the Police in a forest near Sirseti village under Kerlapal Police Station limits in Sukma District of Chhattisgarh on May 11, reports The Print. Acting on specific inputs about the presence of a large number of Naxalites [Left Wing Extremists, LWEs] in hilly areas of Simel and Gogunda villages, teams of the District Reserve Guard (DRG), the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and the Special Task Force (STF) launched the operation, Sukma Superintendent of Police (SP) Sunil Sharma said. When one of the patrolling teams of the DRG was returning, armed Maoists opened fire on security personnel, triggering the gun battle, Sharma said. After the guns fell silent, the body of a Maoist, along with arms, ammunition, and Maoist-related materials, were recovered from the spot, the official said.

Maoists have set fire to Tendupatta Phad across the Indravati River, in which 173 sacks of Tendupatta have been reported to have been burnt. 324 bags of Tendupatta were kept in Koshalnasar Phad, out of which 88 bags had been transported. Three Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres, identified as Peeluram Anchala alias Salik Ram (35), Punau Ram Mandavi (22), and Ramesh Punem alias Budhru (25), were arrested by the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF)'s 30th battalion during a search/area domination operation launched from the CRPF's Chilparas camp and recovered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by them on a road under Koylibeda Police Station limits in Kanker District of Chhattisgarh on May 21, reports Business Standard. "During the operation, the security forces spotted three persons in a forested patch under Koylibeda police station limits. They were arrested while they were trying to run away after seeing the police," Superintendent of Police (SP), Shalabh Kumar Sinha said, adding that a walkie-talkie set, a torch and INR 6,000 cash were recovered from their possession. Based on information given by them, an IED which they had planted on Chilparas Dudta Road was found with a wire attached, the SP added. Peeluram was the ‘deputy commander’ of section A of the Maoists' North Bastar division company number 5. Punem was a member of the Maoist company no. 5. They both carried cash rewards of INR 800,000 each on their heads, the SP said.

A suspected Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) courier has been arrested in Bijapur District of Chhattisgarh on May 24, and Police have recovered from him a cache of explosives and a huge stock of rice meant for senior Maoist cadres, reports The Week. Acting on a tip-off, the accused, identified as Nirmal Jumde, a native of Cherpal village under Bijapur Police Station limits, was arrested on May 24, Bijapur Superintendent of Police (SP), Anjneya Varshney said. A consignment of 2,500 kilograms of rice, 10 gelatin sticks, eight detonators, 20 metre cordex wire, 100 Maoist pamphlets, banner and literature were seized from him. The Police swung into action after getting information that Jumde allegedly received money in advance from Maoist leaders Lingesh and Shanti Vijji, who were active under west Bastar division committee of Maoists, to supply explosives and premium quality rice for senior cadres, the SP said.

Two powerful Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) planted by cadres of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) under a road were recovered in Bijapur District of Chhattisgarh on May 24, reports NDTV. The two devices were found under the Awapalli-Basaguda Road when a team of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was out on a search operation. The IEDs, placed in plastic containers, were planted five feet beneath the road by digging an eight-feet high and eight-feet wide tunnel from the roadside.
