An encounter took place between Security Forces (SFs) and cadres of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) in the hilly area of Paria Forest under Gadiras Police Station limits in Sukma District of Chhattisgarh on March 2, reports The Print. After firing from both the sides for some time, the Maoists escaped from there saving their lives. During this, the District Reserve Guard (DRG) personnels arrested a Maoist couple, identified as Muchaki Hidma and Kunjam Kosi, with a reward of INR 1 million. A reward of INR 800,000 has been declared on Hidma, who is a ‘deputy commander’ of military platoon-24, and INR 200,000 on Kosi, who is a member of military platoon-31 under the Kanger Valley Area Committee. Explosives and other items including six electric detonators, five gelatine rods, wire, batteries, Naxal [Left Wing Extremist, LWE] banners-posters and other materials have been recovered from the accused.

Security Forces (SFs) diffused an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by the cadres of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) in Narayanpur District of Chhattisgarh on March 2, reports en.lalluram.com. Three Maoists, identified as Shivaji alias Roopchand Mandavi (32), Jayalu Ram Kashyap (22) and Sildhar Netam (21), were arrested by Police officials in the district on March 1, who during the interrogation disclosed about an IED planted in near Chihramod on the Chhotadongar - Madhonar Road under Chhotedongar Police Station area. The Police during a search recovered motorcycle, Naxalite banners, pamphlets and explosives from the arrested Maoists. It is also said that a number of cases in connection to arson murder and abduction have been registered against the three rebels.

The cadres of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) killed a villager after branding him as a ‘police informer’ at Tumdiwal village under Pungarpal Police Station in Kondagaon District of Chhattisgarh on March 5, reports mp.punjabkesari.in. According to Police, armed rebels struck at Tumdiwal village on March 4 and abducted six villagers engaged in a religious function when the Maoists raided. They took the villagers inside the forests and interrogated them to ascertain whether they were working for the Police and passing on information about their movements. The rebels freed four villagers on March 4 evening and detained the other two. Sources said one person somehow managed to escape from their custody. The Maoists brutally killed the other, identified as Baramasi Nag, a resident of Tumdiwal Kotmeta Para, and left the body near the residence of a former Sarpanch (head of the Panchayat, village level local self-Government institution) of the village.

Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres killed a Sarpanch (head of the Panchayat, village level local self-Government institution) in Sukma District of Chhattisgarh on march 7, reports The Times of India. Sarpanch Pune Sanna of Pongabhejji Gram Panchayat was abducted by a group of armed Maoists, who intercepted his way near the village when he was returning home on March 6 night. His body was recovered the next day on the road, at Rabdipura, on the outskirts of the village, with his throat slit. Sources said it was an attempt to create terror among the villagers so that they don’t participate in development activities or work in collaboration with the Police or administration.

A civilian, identified as Biresh Mandavi, a resident of Kana village, was killed after accidentally stepping on an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by the cadres of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) to target security personnel near Muragaon in the Korer area in Kanker District of Chhattisgarh on March 8, reports newsriveting.com. An encounter took place between security personnel and Naxalites [Left Wing Extremists, LWEs] near Sakler village under the Kistaram Police Station area in Sukma District of Chhattisgarh on March 9 (today), reports The Print. A joint team of the Special Task Force (STF) and 208th Battalion of the Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) of the CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) had launched the operation from Dabbamarka camp towards Sakler when the exchange of fire took place at around 9 a.m. According to the Police, during the encounter, which lasted for about 45 minutes, six Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres were seen running away with injuries. The SFs also recovered a huge quantity of barrel grenade launchers and other explosive materials from the spot after the encounter.

Two commandos of the Central Reserve Police Force's (CRPF) Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) sustained injuries in the encounter that took place on March 9 between security personnel and cadres of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) near Sakler village under the Kistaram Police Station area in Sukma District of Chhattisgarh, reports pragativadi.com. "Two commandos of CoBRA, Inspector Munesh Kumar Meena of CoBRA’s 202nd battalion and constable Amit Modak of CoBRA’s 208th battalion, suffered minor injuries in the encounter. Around five-six Maoists also sustained bullet injuries in the encounter, but they managed to escape into the jungles," the senior Police officer said in a statement. Barse Pojja was ‘militia platoon commander’ and carrying bounty of INR 100,000 on his head. Following information that a large number of Maoists are present in the border areas of Manganar, Gufa, and Kohbeda in the district, a search operation was launched. On seeing the Security Forces (SFs), the Maoists opened fire, ensuing an encounter that took place for about 40 minutes. Seeing the SFs being overwhelmed, the Maoists escaped under the cover of the forest. The Chhattisgarh government will provide additional assistance of INR 2 million to the families of Police personnel killed during encounters with Naxalites [Left Wing Extremists, LWEs] under its new Naxal Eradication Policy approved on March 18, reports The Times of India on March 19. The policy further states that an additional sum of INR 1 million would also be given to the surrendered Naxals carrying a reward of INR 500,000 and more. The policy will now be tabled in the ongoing Vidhan Sabha session and is expected to be implemented in two months. Officials said that the policy was based on the government's Triveni Action Plan of development, trust, and security.

Acting on a specific input about the presence of Maoists in Kottalendra in a bid to carry out a major attack on National Highway-30 (connecting Sukma town to Konta), a joint team of personnel from Konta and Errabore Police Stations and the District Reserve Guard (DRG) was dispatched in the area, Sukma Superintendent of Police (SP) Sunil Sharma said. When the patrolling team was cordoning off the forest area near Kottalendra, an exchange of fire broke out between the two sides, and seeing the SF personnel zeroing in on them, the Maoists escaped from the spot. "Five Naxalites were apprehended from the spot while trying to flee," Sharma said, adding that four-five Maoists sustained injuries in the encounter but their colleagues managed to drag them inside the forest.

Two persons, including a former deputy Sarpanch (head of the Panchayat, village level local self-Government institution), of Zara village in Narayanpur District of Chhattisgarh, were abducted and allegedly killed by suspected cadres of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) accused of acting as ‘police informers’ in the Bastar division on March 28, reports The Indian Express. In the first incident, Ramji Dodi was abducted along with his two nephews and taken to a jungle (forest) where he was allegedly strangled to death by the Maoists in Narayanpur District. The nephews were released with Ramji’s body and a letter saying that he was killed because he was a ‘police informer’. Ramji was the deputy sarpanch of the village five years ago. In the second incident, Madkam Raju (22), was abducted from his house and killed by Maoists on suspicion of him being a ‘police informer’ in Bheji village in Sukma District on March 28. A group of Maoists from Konta committee of CPI-Maoist attacked him with an axe, said the Police. Sukma Superintendent of Police (SP) Sunil Sharma said, “Raju was not an informer.
