A country-made rifle was also recovered from the encounter spot. The incident took place when a police party challenged Sena men while they were planning a crime. The deceased Sena leader carried a prize of Rs one lakh on hi head and was wanted in several criminal offences including for abduction, murder and massacres. However, the kin of the slain outlaw alleged that the encounter was fake and police killed him in cold blood. The Jehanabad Member of Parliament and the local Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) also described the encounter as ‘fake’ and demanded a high-level judicial inquiry. As the news of the encounter spread, activists of the Ranvir Sena unleashed arson and violence in Jehanabad and Gaya districts. They damaged the south cabin of Bela railway station, burnt a vehicle and uprooted rail tracks near the station to protest the police action.
