According to official sources, the Madhya Pradesh government is planning to deploy the elite Hawk Force in left-wing extremist, Naxalite, affected areas. The Special Armed Forces (SAF) would provide training to the Force. It will be given special training in jungle warfare and in handling sophisticated weapons. The decision to form the Hawk Force was taken nearly eight months back in the undivided Madhya Pradesh. However, the bifurcation of Madhya Pradesh caused some delay in the decision to deploy it, as most of the Naxalite infested districts went to the newly formed State of Chhattisgarh.

Chhattisgarh Home Minister Nand Kumar Patel, while talking to newsmen in Raipur, on June 1, said the State government was prepared to hold unconditional talks with left-wing extremists, Naxalites. He said Naxalism was the outcome of some social and economic problems and violence was not the proper course to resolve the problems. A peaceful solution was always possible through talks, he said. He also appealed to the Naxalites to leave the path of violence and join mainstream politics.

On June 4, police arrested three left-wing extremists, Naxalites of the Communist Party of India, Marxist-Leninist, CPI-ML (Janasakthi) group, at Bahadurpura near Hyderabad. Police also recovered some arms and ammunition from their possession. A senior police official told newsmen that the arrested included Srikonda Jalapathi alias Manganna, a district committee member of Karimnagar district, who is reportedly involved in over 100 cases, including 28 murders. He added that investigations were on to find out to what extent the Naxalites had extorted money in Hyderabad.

The Warangal district police chief, in a press release said, interrogation of the arrested person revealed that the formation, organisational expansion and day-to-day activities of the TJS were totally guided by the PWG. The release said the TJS had lent active logistical support to the PWG during an attack on Tirumalagiri Police station in Nalgonda district recently. It was also revealed that organisations like the Andhra Pradesh Civil Liberties Committee (APCLC), Virasam, Rythu Seva Samithi (RSS), Nyaya Porata Committee, Lambada Hakkula Porata Samithi were all working in close coordination with the PWG.

Six GRP personnel were injured while trying to resist the Naxalites. A senior police official said this was the first time when Naxalites looted firearms from GRP personnel in a running train. According to official sources, the Bihar police would form Special Operations Groups (SOGs) on the lines of those in J&K to counter the threats from left-wing extremists, Naxalites of the Maoist Communist Centre (MCC) and the People's War Group (PWG). The SOGs would have 60 to 70 personnel from different forces like the paramilitary forces, the Bihar Military Police (BMP), district police and intelligence agencies. Speaking to newsmen in the forests bordering Nizamabad and Karimnagar districts, a Zonal Committee member said the PWG has identified as many as 70 covert operators who had infiltrated into the orgainsation at the behest of the police during the last three years.
