Five Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants identified as Nishaz Lone alias Khitab, ‘district commander’ and resident of Nageenpora Tral in Pulwama District, Danish Manzoor Shiekh resident of Sathergund Kakapora of Pulwama District, Amir Wagay, resident of Hanjan Payeen of Pulwama District, Mehran Manzoor, resident of Jamalatoo in Srinagar District and Abu Rehan alias Tawheed, resident of Pakistan were killed in an encounter with Security Forces (SFs) during a during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) at Hanjin village in Rajpora area in Pulwama District of Jammu and Kashmir on July 2, reports Daily Excelsior. SFs have recovered arms, ammunition & other incriminating materials including one Self Loading Rifle (SLR) belonging to J&K Police, which was by militants in 2016. Nishaz Lone was active since 2018 in militant activities, said Inspector General of Police (IG) Kashmir Zone Vijay Kumar. Police recovered incriminating material, including sharp knives, torch among others from them. The NIA team along with Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) raided an Islamic seminary named Sirajul Uloom at Dalal Mohalla in Nawabazar area in Srinagar District on July 11 and arrested Adnaan Ahmad Nadvi and seized some office records and a laptop. Similar raids were followed at Pushroo, Sunsooma and Achabal villages in Anantnag District by NIA and other agencies on July 11. The NIA teams arrested several persons including Javaid Ahamad Mir (28), of Sunsooma, Umar Bhat of Magray Mohallah Achabal, Ovais Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Magray Mohallah Achabal, Tanveer Ahmad Bhat (26), Gorimohallah Achabal and Zeeshan Ameen Malik (22), of Pushroo Nowgam Achabal from Anantnag District. All of them are resident of Anantnag District. The case pertains to online radicalisation and NIA had got inputs about involvement of some foreign based handlers behind the radicalisation process, said NIA statement.

One of the slain LeT militant is identified as Sariq Altaf Baba, who crossed over to Pakistan from Wagha border in Amritsar District of Punjab in 2018. The other two militants killed during the encounter are from Pakistan and one of them is identified as Taha alias Shakir. Security Forces recovered three AK-47s rifles, 280 round and 13 magazines were recovered from the encounter site, said Kashmir Zone Inspector General of Police Vijay Kumar. One Indian Army trooper was also injured during the encounter.

A special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court framed terror charges against Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader identified as Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra, claiming that he was an asset for Pakistan based terror groups and that his 13-year journey as a journalist and politician from 2007 was a saga of subterfuge, deceit and double-dealing, reports Daily Excelsior on July 26. The NIA Judge charged him with being a member of a terror group, raising funds for them as well as aiding militant outfit. He was also charged under sections related to waging of war against the country, spreading disaffection against the Government and criminal conspiracy. According to officials, security agencies made a quick estimate of passports issued between 2015 and 2019, and found that out of the 40 youths from Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in India who had gone to Pakistan or Bangladesh for studies, 28 had infiltrated back into the country as trained militants, reports Daily Excelsior on August 1. This is in addition to over 100 Kashmiri youths who travelled to Pakistan on valid visas for short durations, and have either not come back or disappeared after their return in the last three years. The number of local youths joining terror groups has fallen from 85 to 69 this year for the first six months, there is some amount of recruitment taking place for which there should be more efforts from the society and agencies to check this unfortunate trend, said Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh

Earlier, SATP has reported the incident on July 31. Lamboo was an IED expert and was a key conspirator of militant attack at Lethpora in Pulwama on February 14, 2019.
