A Policeman was killed and his Ak-47 rifle snatched when militants attacked the guard post of a senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Muhammad Anwar Khan at Aribagh area in Nowgam in Srinagar District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in India on April 1, reports Daily Excelsior. The slain Policeman was identified as Rameez Raja (30), a resident of Ara Khashipora in the Dialgam area of Anantnag had joined Jammu and Kashmir Police five years back. Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir, Vijay Kumar said four Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants including two from Srinagar carried out the attack on the guard post of the house of senior BJP leader Muhammad Anwar Khan in Aribagh in Nowgam area. The IGP said two of the four militants involved in the act have been identified as Shahid Khursheed and Obaid Shafi. “Both belong to Lashkar-e-Toiba. Security Forces (SFs) launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in Sopore area in Baramulla District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in India on April 2, reports Daily Excelsior. Official sources said that following specific information about presence of militants, a joint CASO was launched by Special Operations Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP), Army and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) at Saidpora in Sopore and conducted house-to-house searches in the area. “All the exit points were sealed to foil any attempts by militants to escape,” Officials said, adding searches were also being conducted in nearby fields and orchards. Three militants, including the two who were involved in April 1 attack on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Muhammad Anwar Khan’s house in Nowgam were killed in an encounter with Security Forces (SFs) in Pulwama District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in India on April 2, reports The Times of India. Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir range, Vijay Kumar said, “Police pursued leads provided by arrested over ground worker (OGW) Ishfaq Ahmed and laid a siege at the Ghat Mohalla area in Pulwama district. Firing started at 4:35am. The militants refused to surrender and instead took five civilians in hostage. That’s why the operation got delayed. Later, we managed to take the hostages out and then the encounter started in which three terrorists were killed.” The slain militants have been identified as Suhail Nisar Lone and Yasir Wani, both residents of Khrew area of Pulwama, and Junaid Ahmad from Prichoo in the same District. “All the three had joined (militants ranks) this year — two in February and one in March,” the IGP said. Kumar said Suhail and Junaid were involved in the attack on Khan’s residence in which a Policeman was killed and his riffle was snatched. “Suhail is the one who was wearing a burqa. Both were affiliated with the Al-Badr outfit. We recovered one Ak-47 riffle, one pistol and the SLR riffle that was snatched in the Nowgam attack,” the IGP said, adding that two more Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants based in Srinagar, Obaid and Shahid, are still on the run. Preliminary investigations have revealed that Lashkar and Al-Badr had jointly carried out the Nowgam attack. The IGP said a vehicle (Alto) used by militants in the attack has also been seized. “The vehicle was found outside the house where the encounter took place (on Friday). It belongs to the house owner. We will arrest him under UAPA [Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act],” he said. Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir range, Vijay Kumar, said that two militants including the Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind (AGuH) chief Imtiyaz Shah had fled from the Shopian encounter site during the initial cordon after throwing grenades and had fled to Nowbugh area of Tral. On April 9, a cordon was launched and, in the combing operation, AGuH chief Imtiyaz along with his aide were killed in Nowbugh area in Tral in Pulwama District. Three civilians also sustained injuries during the operation. From the seven militants, the IGP said, seven AK-rifles and two pistols were recovered. The IGP identified the slain militants of Shopian as Muzamil Tantray who had joined militancy in August 2019, Adil Lone who picked up arms in July 2019, Younish Ahmed Khanday, who joined militancy in November last year and Basit Bhat who picked up gun in June last year. Altaf was arrested in a LeT recruitment module case, which was related to the arrest of Ms Tania Parveen by West Bengal Police for her association with proscribed organization LeT and an FIR was registered in Badurai Police Station in North 24 Parganas District of West Bengal under Sections of 121A, 124A, 120B, 419 and 420 of IPC, Sections 10, 13, 15, 18, 18B, 20, 38 and 39 of UA(P) Act and 66F of Information Technology Act. A Police spokesman said, those arrested have been identified as Narbal-residents, Adil Ahmad Dar, Tahir Ahmad Bhat, and Ghulam Mohammed Gojre, a resident of Kawoosa Khalisa. Preliminary investigation revealed that the arrested militant associates were providing shelter, logistics and other material support including transportation of arms and ammunition of the ultras of proscribed terror outfit LeT in Magam, Narbal and Beerwah areas of Budgam. The spokesman said, “All the three have been in touch with Pakistan-based terror commanders through various social media platforms. Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir range, Vijay Kumar, said, two militants were killed in an encounter at Zeipora Mantribugh area and are identified as Amir Ahmad Bhat, son of Mohammad Yusuf Bhat, resident of Malibugh Imam Sahib in Shopian, and Sabzar Ahmad Gania of Sehpora in Kulgam. “Both were affiliated with Hizbul Mujahideen outfit and had joined militancy in November last year and May 2019 respectively. The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) have arrested two Over Ground Workers (OGWs) of The Resistance Front (TRF) militant outfit for aiding and abetting militants, from Hajin area in Bandipora District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in India on April 21, reports Daily Excelsior. “In a joint operation by Bandipora Police and CRPF, two Over Ground Workers (OGWs) have been arrested for aiding and abetting terrorists to TRF [The Resistance Front] or LeT [Lashkar-e-Toiba] Terrorists. The OGWs were also found to be instigating youth to join terror outfits. A case has been registered and further investigation is underway,” the Police said in a statement. The Police said that the two arrested were found to be involved in terrorist activities as well as actively harbouring and providing shelter and logistics to TRF/LeT Terrorists. “The OGWs were also found to be evoking the emotions of gullible youth and motivating them to join terrorist ranks. The OGWs have been arrested and incriminating material has been recovered from them,” said an official statement. The arrested OWGs were identified as Nisar Ahmad Bhat son of Ghulam Mohammad Bhat of Singhpora Pattan, Rahil Ahmad Parray son of Bashir Ahmad Parray of Kanihama Magam and Arif Ahmad Mir son of Ghulam Ahmad Mir of Mazhama. Police said that trio was working at the behest of LeT ‘commander’ Yousuf Dar alias Kantru and another militant of the outfit - Abrar Nadeem Bhat. The trio were involved in recent robbery at J&K Bank Khore Sherabad on April 22 as well as a string of other such incidents including Grameen Bank Ogmuna on March 12, Grameen Bank Panzinara on March 16 and J&K Bank Branch at Chandipora on March 24. “So far investigation revealed that they decamped with total cash of Rs. 9,51,896 in all these incidents. Police on April 28 today filed a charge sheet against three Over Ground Workers (OGWs) of Hizb-ul-Mujahedeen (HM), identified as Qaiser Ahmad Sheikh, Aasif Khazir Mir and Hilal Ahmad Mir, for their involvement in the attack on Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) Ganderbal District vice president on June 10, 2020, reports Daily Excelsior. In the evening hours, militants carried out the attack at his native village Nunner, Ganderbal District. “The militants fired upon the protected person, however, the PSOs [Personal Security Offices] quickly retaliated back resulting in on-spot death of one militant namely Shabir Ahmad Shah, son of Abdul Gani Shah of Jangalnar Awantipora,” spokesman said. During the brief exchange of fire, one PSO Altaf Hussain also got seriously injured and later succumbed to injuries, he said, adding that arms and ammunition were also recovered from the killed militant. “In this regard, a case… was registered in Police Station Ganderbal.
