A Policeman was killed and his Ak-47 rifle snatched when militants attacked the guard post of a senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Muhammad Anwar Khan at Aribagh area in Nowgam in Srinagar District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in India on April 1, reports Daily Excelsior. The slain Policeman was identified as Rameez Raja (30), a resident of Ara Khashipora in the Dialgam area of Anantnag had joined Jammu and Kashmir Police five years back. Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir, Vijay Kumar said four Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants including two from Srinagar carried out the attack on the guard post of the house of senior BJP leader Muhammad Anwar Khan in Aribagh in Nowgam area. Security Forces (SFs) launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in Sopore area in Baramulla District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in India on April 2, reports Daily Excelsior. Official sources said that following specific information about presence of militants, a joint CASO was launched by Special Operations Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP), Army and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) at Saidpora in Sopore and conducted house-to-house searches in the area. “All the exit points were sealed to foil any attempts by militants to escape,” Officials said, adding searches were also being conducted in nearby fields and orchards. Three militants, including the two who were involved in April 1 attack on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Muhammad Anwar Khan’s house in Nowgam were killed in an encounter with Security Forces (SFs) in Pulwama District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in India on April 2, reports The Times of India. Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir range, Vijay Kumar said, “Police pursued leads provided by arrested over ground worker (OGW) Ishfaq Ahmed and laid a siege at the Ghat Mohalla area in Pulwama district. Firing started at 4:35am. The militants refused to surrender and instead took five civilians in hostage. That’s why the operation got delayed. Later, we managed to take the hostages out and then the encounter started in which three terrorists were killed.” The slain militants have been identified as Suhail Nisar Lone and Yasir Wani, both residents of Khrew area of Pulwama, and Junaid Ahmad from Prichoo in the same District. “All the three had joined (militants ranks) this year — two in February and one in March,” the IGP said. Kumar said Suhail and Junaid were involved in the attack on Khan’s residence in which a Policeman was killed and his riffle was snatched. “Suhail is the one who was wearing a burqa. Both were affiliated with the Al-Badr outfit. We recovered one Ak-47 riffle, one pistol and the SLR riffle that was snatched in the Nowgam attack,” the IGP said, adding that two more Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants based in Srinagar, Obaid and Shahid, are still on the run. Preliminary investigations have revealed that Lashkar and Al-Badr had jointly carried out the Nowgam attack. The IGP said a vehicle (Alto) used by militants in the attack has also been seized. “The vehicle was found outside the house where the encounter took place (on Friday). It belongs to the house owner. We will arrest him under UAPA [Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act],” he said. The Special Operations Group (SOG) Jammu and Police arrested a ‘commander’ of Islamic State of Jammu and Kashmir (ISJK) during naka checking at Jhajjar Kotli in Jammu District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in India on April 4, when he was on way to Jammu along with arms, ammunition and cash to carry out terror strike, reports Daily Excelsior. Three anti-personnel mines were found and subsequently destroyed in a controlled explosion by the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) in Samba District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in India on April 5, reports Daily Excelsior. The mines, which have gathered rust indicating that they had remained buried for a very long time, were found by a local resident during excavation work adjoining his field in Dera village around 7.45 pm on Monday, a Police official said, adding the police party immediately rushed to the spot and secured the place before informing the Samba Police’s BDS, who destroyed the explosives in a controlled explosion without causing any damage. Three militants were killed in an ongoing encounter between militants and Security Forces (SFs) in Jan Mohalla in Shopian District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in India on April 8, reports Daily Excelsior. An official said, the slain militants have been identified as Imtiaz Ahmad of Dadsar Tral in Pulwama District, Adil Lone of Khasipora in Shopian and Muzamil Tantray of Jamnagri in Shopian District. while chief of Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind (AGuH) has been trapped in the area. Death toll rose to five with the killing of two more militants in the encounter between militants and Security Forces (SFs) in Jan Mohalla in Shopian District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in India on April 8, reports Daily Excelsior. Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir range, Vijay Kumar, said that two militants including the Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind (AGuH) chief Imtiyaz Shah had fled from the Shopian encounter site during the initial cordon after throwing grenades and had fled to Nowbugh area of Tral. On April 9, a cordon was launched and, in the combing operation, AGuH chief Imtiyaz along with his aide were killed in Nowbugh area in Tral in Pulwama District. Three civilians also sustained injuries during the operation. From the seven militants, the IGP said, seven AK-rifles and two pistols were recovered. The IGP identified the slain militants of Shopian as Muzamil Tantray who had joined militancy in August 2019, Adil Lone who picked up arms in July 2019, Younish Ahmed Khanday, who joined militancy in November last year and Basit Bhat who picked up gun in June last year. He said the fifth militant has not been identified yet. Similarly, the IGP said one of the slain militants of Tral gunfight was identified as Imtiyaz Shah, the chief of AGH, who was active since April 2019, and was tasked to target Amarnath ji Yatra in Tral area. Police arrested a militant of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) outfit with a grenade from near his house at Kathawa village in Thathri Tehsil (revenue unit) in Doda District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in India on April 9, reports Daily Excelsior. The arrested militant has been identified as Sabder Ali son of Dawood Batt of Kathawa. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Doda, Mumtaz Ahmed said the arrested militant is brother of Mohammad Amin Bhat, who had crossed over to Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) in 1999 and is operating from there. A militant was killed while two Army personnel were injured in an encounter between Security Forces (SFs) and militants in orchards at Chitragam area in Shopian District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in India on April 10, reports Daily Excelsior. Two militants were killed by the Security Forces (SFs) in an encounter in the Bijbehara area in Anantnag District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in India on April 11, reports Daily Excelsior. Stating that the two terrorists (militants) killed in the encounter were responsible for the killing of an Army jawan (trooper) on Saturday [April 10], Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir range, Vijay Kumar, said, “Terrorists responsible for the killing of Army jawan neutralised within two days in Bijbehara encounter.” In a statement, Dilbag Singh, Director General of Police (DGP), said, “Both the hardcore local terrorists have been neutralised. They were responsible for yesterday’s killing of a TA [Territorial Army] jawan. A civilian was killed when militants opened fire at him in Magam town in Budgam District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in India on April 11, reports Daily Excelsior. The civilian is identified as Nasir Ahmad Khan (35), a resident of Buchipora Magam, succumbed to his injuries in the hospital. As per sources, the victim was working as a Special Police Officer (SPO) with the Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP), but resigned later. The reason for targeting the man is not yet known. Security Forces (SFs) arrested two militants and three Over Ground Workers (OGWs) of militants, who were planning attacks on SFs and Panchayat members, from Handwara area in Kupwara District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in India on April 13, reports Daily Excelsior. Following specific inputs about presence of militants at different locations, SFs launched established a naka at Kachloo crossing on Baramulla Handwara highway and the two militants and three OGWs were arrested. A Pakistani intruder was shot at and injured by the Border Security Force (BSF) when he tried to escape on being observed at the International Border (IB) in RS Pura sector in Jammu District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in India on April 13, reports Daily Excelsior. Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) militants Zaheen Javaid Dar, Javaid Ahmed Dar, and three Over Ground Workers (OGWs) were arrested by the Police at Bogund village in Kulgam District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in India on April 14, reports Daily Excelsior. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested a school teacher, identified as Altaf Ahmed Rather, who was a recruiter for Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), from his residence in Bandipora District in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in India on April 15, reports Daily Excelsior. Altaf was arrested in a LeT recruitment module case, which was related to the arrest of Ms Tania Parveen by West Bengal Police for her association with proscribed organization LeT and an FIR was registered in Badurai Police Station in North 24 Parganas District of West Bengal under Sections of 121A, 124A, 120B, 419 and 420 of IPC, Sections 10, 13, 15, 18, 18B, 20, 38 and 39 of UA(P) Act and 66F of Information Technology Act. NIA took over this case on April 5 last year and re-registered a case as RC-20/2020/NIA/DLI. The probe agency had earlier filed charge sheet against arrested accused Tania Parveen. The investigation has revealed that accused Altaf was a school teacher in Bandipora and was a sympathiser of LeT. “The charge sheeted accused Tania Parveen had come in contact with him over social media platforms. He was instrumental in introducing Tania Parveen to LeT members based in Pakistan, in pursuance in the conspiracy of LeT to radicalize, motivate and recruit youth for violent Jihad in India”, the NIA said, adding that further investigation in the case has been under progress. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a charge sheet against seven narco-smugglers associated with Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) in connection with its probe into the Jammu narco-terrorism case at NIA Special Court, Jammu in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in India on April 17, reports Sentinel Assam. The charge sheet is filed against seven narco-smugglers associated with BKI identified as Gurpartap Singh, a resident of Tarn Taran District in Punjab, Sham Lal, Ajeet Kumar alias Kala, Bishan Das alias Raju, Jasraj Singh, Subhash Chander and Gurbaksh Singh, all residents of Jammu in Jammu District of J & K in India under several sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, Indian Penal Code and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. The NIA had taken over the probe on November 26, 2020. During the probe it was revealed that the seven charge-sheeted accused in this case were part of a narco-terrorism module of BKI. The National Investigation Authority (NIA) has filed a chargesheet in a special Jammu court against seven persons, including a resident of Punjab, in a narco-terrorism case related to the banned outfit Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), tribuneindia.com reports on April 17. The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) have arrested two Over Ground Workers (OGWs) of The Resistance Front (TRF) militant outfit for aiding and abetting militants, from Hajin area in Bandipora District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in India on April 21, reports Daily Excelsior. “In a joint operation by Bandipora Police and CRPF, two Over Ground Workers (OGWs) have been arrested for aiding and abetting terrorists to TRF [The Resistance Front] or LeT [Lashkar-e-Toiba] Terrorists. The OGWs were also found to be instigating youth to join terror outfits. A case has been registered and further investigation is underway,” the Police said in a statement. The Police said that the two arrested were found to be involved in terrorist activities as well as actively harbouring and providing shelter and logistics to TRF/LeT Terrorists. “The OGWs were also found to be evoking the emotions of gullible youth and motivating them to join terrorist ranks. Border security force (BSF) on April 24-night foiled attempts by Pakistan-controlled drones to drop arms and ammunition in the Arnia sector of the Jammu District, reports Swarajya. BSF sources said, two unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) were spotted over Vikram and Jabowal border outposts on the Indian side of the border in the Arnia sector. One Al-Badr terrorist was arrested during a joint search operation in Nagbal village of Chrar-i-Sharif in Budgam District on April 24, reports Zee News. Police on April 25 arrested three Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) Over Ground Worker (OGW) who were allegedly in Jammu and Kashmir Bank robbery cases and killing of a former Special Police officer (SPO) in Pattan area of Baramulla District, reports Daily Excelsior. The arrested OWGs were identified as Nisar Ahmad Bhat son of Ghulam Mohammad Bhat of Singhpora Pattan, Rahil Ahmad Parray son of Bashir Ahmad Parray of Kanihama Magam and Arif Ahmad Mir son of Ghulam Ahmad Mir of Mazhama. Police said that trio was working at the behest of LeT ‘commander’ Yousuf Dar alias Kantru and another militant of the outfit - Abrar Nadeem Bhat. The trio were involved in recent robbery at J&K Bank Khore Sherabad on April 22 as well as a string of other such incidents including Grameen Bank Ogmuna on March 12, Grameen Bank Panzinara on March 16 and J&K Bank Branch at Chandipora on March 24. “So far investigation revealed that they decamped with total cash of Rs. 9,51,896 in all these incidents. They have been identified as Liyaqat Ahmad Kakroo son of Showkat Ahmad of Nambla Uri and Akhtar Ahmad Mir son of Hafizullah Mir of Barmnate Boniyar. Police on April 28 today filed a charge sheet against three Over Ground Workers (OGWs) of Hizb-ul-Mujahedeen (HM), identified as Qaiser Ahmad Sheikh, Aasif Khazir Mir and Hilal Ahmad Mir, for their involvement in the attack on Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) Ganderbal District vice president on June 10, 2020, reports Daily Excelsior. In the evening hours, militants carried out the attack at his native village Nunner, Ganderbal District. “The militants fired upon the protected person, however, the PSOs [Personal Security Offices] quickly retaliated back resulting in on-spot death of one militant namely Shabir Ahmad Shah, son of Abdul Gani Shah of Jangalnar Awantipora,” spokesman said.
