A Pune court granted eight days' Police custody to Indian Mujahideen (IM) militant Mohammad Quateel alias Mohammad Jafir Siddiqui on May 3, reports The Hindu. Siddiqui has been accused of plotting to plant a bomb in the popular Dagdusheth Halwai Ganapati Temple in Pune (Maharashtra) on February 13, 2010. Investigation officer Samad Shaikh said the the accused was a close associate of Yasin Bhatkal, who is a co-accused in the case, and is absconding. Assistant Public Prosecutor A.V. Ausekar told First Class Judicial Magistrate S.S. Bose that Siddiqui was a “threat to national security.”

Central Intelligence agencies have warned the Mumbai Police that five suspected Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants have sneaked into the city and are plotting to attack several vital installations, including petroleum establishments, possibly through the sea route, reports The Times of India. The alert was sent on May 6 evening and appended to it were colour photographs of the five militants, all of whom are in the age of group of 25-30 years.

Five Pakistan-trained militants who received terror training in Pakistan surrendered to the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) in April 2012 after reading about another terror recruit's change of heart in The Times of India (TOI), claims the daily. Following the appearance of the report, five others, all between the ages of 19 and 22, separately turned themselves in to the ATS. Four of the five, officers said, had travelled as a cell and the last independently. Officers said the boys were paid INR 100,000 each for choosing to undergo terror training.

Hailing from different parts of Maharashtra they had travelled to Pakistan in late 2010 and got training for three months in "using firearms, bomb-making, recruiting others, expanding the terror network, and in how to evade the police". One of the camps they were sent to is in Muridke, the same place where 26/11 gunman Ajmal Kasab and his associates were allegedly trained. The 26/11 terrorists were reportedly paid INR 150,000 each to attack Mumbai. "The five were indoctrinated by showing propaganda videos. They told us that they got taken in and could not differentiate between right and wrong," said ATS chief Rakesh Maria.

"Most terror alerts issued by the intelligence agencies were non-actionable," said the officer. "In 2009, around 350 terror alerts were issued, and in 2010, 447 were sent. Maharashtra Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) officers on May 9 found out that Yasin Bhatkal, who heads terror group Indian Mujahideen (IM), invested INR 1.4 million in the under-construction Poonam Paradise in Nalla Sopara (east) of Thane District in Maharashtra in 2010, according to Mumbai Mirror. The investment was made through Naquee, who is now in ATS custody for stealing the bikes used to plant the bombs at Zaveri Bazaar, Dadar Kabutarkhana and Opera House (Mumbai) on July 13, 2011.
