All important installations in Chennai and its suburbs, including the Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research at Kalpakkam in Kanchipuram District were put on high alert following the twin blasts on board the Bangalore-Guwahati Express at Chennai Central, The Times of India reports on May 2. "Intense patrolling is on inside the nuclear complex in Kalpakkam where screening of people moving in and out was rigorous," Site Director KJ Koteeswaran said. Security was also enhanced at the US Consulate in the city, railway station, bus stands and places of worship. Similar arrangements were made at the Kudankulam nuclear power plant in Tirunelveli District in Tamil Nadu. However, in the absence of any concrete leads, investigations into the Chennai blasts have zeroed in on two passengers who boarded the affected coaches of Bangalore-Guwahati Express in Bangalore without tickets and alighted before the train reached Chennai. Sources said the two are being viewed as suspects based on the testimony of passengers who said two young men boarded the train's S4 and S5 coaches without tickets, slept on the floor and were nowhere to be found in the morning. Central agencies also suspect the bombs could have been kept in the train in Chennai itself with their timers set for a short span. "The bombs exploded 12 minutes after the train reached Chennai," said an officer privy to investigation details. Following the blast security has been also increased at Nagpur (Maharashtra) railway station and airport. The access controls to the airport have been tightened and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has increased the intensity of its baggage and people search. Security was beefed up on May 1 at the Trichy Junction railway station and other important places in the city. Similarly, security was also tightened at the Trichy International Airport. Police teams were deployed at major bus terminals like the Central Bus Stand and Chatiram Bus Stand. Patrol teams were also sent at vital points across the city.

All international airports, ports and land borders in India have been put on alert by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) to check circulation of Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) and black money during ongoing Lok Sabha (Lower House of Indian Parliament) elections, Oman Tribune reports on May 2. DRI has asked customs officials posted at international transit points to remain extra vigilant during the Lok Sabha elections and keep a check on passengers and baggage coming from sensitive sectors, official sources said. The alert was issued some time back following an input that there may be a spurt in smuggling of fake currency notes from abroad during the elections, they said. Customs officials have been also asked to be alert at international transit land routes, including the Attari-Wagah border (Punjab) and Munabao Railway Station in Jodhpur (Rajasthan), among others, the sources said. “Ports along the country’s coast lines bringing in cargo from other nations have also been alerted to keep a check on smuggling of fake currency notes and circulation of black money,” an official said. The customs officials are also maintaining a strict vigil on frequent passengers to and from Gulf nations and South East sector (Malaysia, the Philippines, Cambodia, Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand, among others). Authorities here are also coordinating with the Customs Overseas Intelligence Network (COIN) officers spread across Asia and other important nations to check flow of black money to India, the sources said.

As reported on May 1, Tamil Nadu 'Q' branch sleuths arrested two associates of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) operative Sakir Hussain in Chennai, in addition, the Police also seized Fake Indian Currency Note (FICN) to the tune of INR 2,50,000 from them. Those arrested are identified as Siva Balan, a Sri Lankan Tamil, and Mohammad Salim, of Royapuram, Chennai. Siva Balan worked as a freelance journalist with a magazine in Chennai, while Salim was running a showroom in T Nagar. Police arrested them based on information given by Hussain. Investigators said the fake currency notes had virtually all the salient features of the original. "We are interrogating the duo to know about the origin of the currency. The duo will be remanded in judicial custody after producing them before the magistrate court in Chennai on Friday (May 2)," a Police officer said. During questioning, the duo told the investigation officers that they acted as mediators and collected INR 2,000 for every INR 1,00,000 FICN circulated in the market.

The interrogation of suspected Colombo-based Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agent Mohammed Zahir Hussain has brought out that he has been making attempts to establish a widespread network to carry out activities, including circulation of fake currency in south India, reports The Times of India on May 2. Earlier on May 1, based on information provided by Hussain, Police arrested two of his associates - Siva Balan, also a Sri Lankan, and Mohammed Salim of Chennai. According to the sources, Hussain and his two associates have confessed to running the fake currency racket. Hussain, actively engaged in recruitment of youngsters, was arrested on April 29 on a tip-off and fake currency notes were seized from him. The investigators are focusing on whether Hussain had any link with Rajasthan-based Indian Mujahideen (IM) operative Ashraf Ali, who was arrested in a joint operation by Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu police on May 1 in Cuddalore. Meanwhile, a Cuddalore court has granted five-day transit remand of Ashraf Ali to enable Rajasthan police to take him to their state for further interrogation.

The Rajasthan Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) on May 1 arrested a suspected Indian Mujahideen (IM) operative, Ashraf Ali from Chidambaram town in Cuddalore District, reports The Times of India. He has allegedly set up and ran an IM module in Rajasthan. Ali is editor of Urdu magazine 'Nida-E-Haq', which allegedly lured Muslim youths in Jodhpur (Rajasthan) to join the IM and prepared them to be part of the terror outfit's sleeper cells, which consists of secret agents who receive specialized training in their homes and are later given assignments in other areas. Sources said Ali moved to Jodhpur from Uttar Pradesh over a decade ago. Ali had gone missing on March 23, 2014 when the state ATS and the Delhi Police arrested a IM operative Zia-ur-Rehman alias Waqas along with three other operatives of the outfit, and seized a huge cache of explosives. On his run since March 23, the ATS said the accused spent some time in Bali (Rajasthan), Marwar and then went to Hazrat Nizamuddhin (Delhi). Later, he met some members of Tablighi Jamaat. "Ashraf went to Chennai with them. Later, he sneaked into Chidambaram, where he was living for the past one week," said a senior officer of ATS."Ali was arrested with the help of Tamil Nadu Police and is being brought to Jaipur, where he would be produced in court," said Alok Tripathi, Additional Director General (ADG) of ATS.

In a major breakthrough in foiling the Islamist terror group’s recruitment and fundraising operations in West Asia, a key Indian Mujahideen organiser, Faizan Ahmad Sultan was deported by the UAE on May 2, reports The Hindu. Faizan was escorted to New Delhi by Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) officials and was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) soon after his arrival. Faizan played a key role in helping Indian Mujahideen fugitives flee India after a 2008 police operation targeting the group led to the arrest of several second-rung operatives, and the death of top commander Mohammad Atif Amin. In addition, he is alleged to have helped Mohammad Ismail, also known as “Gora Ismail,” route funds from Karachi-based Indian Mujahideen military commander Riyaz Ahmad Shahbandri to operatives in India. The UAE authorities detained Faizan soon after he was located by RAW in February, based on leads developed through the interrogation of alleged Indian Mujahideen commander Mohammad Ahmad Zarar Siddibapa. Siddibapa, held while crossing the India-Nepal border last year, is now awaiting trial, the sources said.

Inputs gathered by Central Agencies say a leader of Pak-based terror outfit Jamaat-ud-Dawa, Zameer Khan has formed a new outfit- Ansar-ul-Uma- for conducting operations in India, reports The Times of India on May 3. A secret document of the intelligence agencies claims that the new outfit located in Bagh District in Pakistan was formed three days ago and 80-100 terrorists had already joined it. The intelligence agencies have also informed that Maulana Masood Azhar, founder of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), last week held a conference -'Jehad-e-Kashmir'- with senior members of various Tanzeems. Masood Azhar was released by India in the wake of the 1999 Kandahar hijack.

The Supreme Court on May 2 refused to issue any further direction to the tribunal constituted to examine the ban on the Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) for the seventh time, reports Deccan Herald. A bench of Chief Justice R M Lodha and Justice Kurian Joseph said the SC order on the functioning of the tribunal under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act was crystal clear and so it did not need to issue any more directives. A counsel representing two erstwhile SIMI members urged the court to ensure that the tribunal adhered to the rules of evidence. They wanted assurance that the tribunal would not only go by confessional statements, which were extracted from alleged members, and secret documents that were not shared with the lawyers for the organisation. The court, however, said there was no need for any interim direction and posted the matter for final hearing on August 12 before a three-judge bench that previously took up similar matters.

Central security agencies have claimed that Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) had plans to carry out terror attacks on two foreign consulates - US and Israeli - in India with evidence for this reportedly given by Sri Lankan national, Sakir Hussain, arrested from Chennai, during his interrogation, reported The Times of India on May 4. Sakir told his interrogators that he had been hired allegedly by an official in Pakistani high commission in Colombo as part of the ISI's alleged plans to conduct reconnaissance of US consulate in Chennai and Israeli consulate in Bengaluru. Hussain was arrested on April 29, 2013, in a coordinated operation involving various countries including a Southeast Asian nation. He is reported to have told the interrogators that Pakistan's spy agency was planning to send two men from Maldives to Chennai and that he had to arrange for their travel documents and hideouts. During interrogation, Hussain reportedly took the name of Amir Zubair Siddiq, who is counsellor (visa) at Pakistan high commission in Colombo, as his alleged handler and also said he had been chosen as he was engaged in human trafficking, making of forged passports and smuggling of Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN). The sleuths recovered pictures of US and Israeli consulates showing various gates and roads leading to the two premises, the sources said, and claimed that these pictures had been mailed to his alleged handlers in Pakistan and its high commission in Colombo.

Indian Mujahideen (IM) operative, Asraf Ali, who was arrested from Cuddalore District of Tamil Nadu on May 1, was the main source of setting up IM modules in western Rajasthan, Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) investigations have revealed, reports Deccan Herald on May 5. Security agencies said that the decision to set up an IM module and sleeper cells in Rajasthan was taken way back in 2011 on the directions of Pakistan-based Riyaz Bhatkal, who is wanted by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). Asraf, along with two others, Maroof and Barqat, was arrested a month back by the Police. They were reportedly working together to raise more modules in the state.

The May 1 twin blasts aboard the Bangalore-Guwahati Express at Chennai Central railway station was most likely masterminded by a group from outside Tamil Nadu, said investigators who grilled Al-Umma operatives and some others, reports The Times of India on May 5. This strengthens the suspicion on Indian Mujahideen (IM) which has sleeper cells in Karnataka though investigators don't rule out the involvement of some other extremist group. A CB-CID source said a team interrogated Al-Umma activists Panna Ismail, 'Police' Fakrudeen and Bilal Malik who are in Vellore jail. "We have made inquiries with a few more prisoners who have a history of bomb-making," said the source, adding, "We infer that local groups didn't have a direct role in Thursday's act of terror." Preliminary forensic reports have pointed to the use of ammonium nitrate and nitro toluene, along with sulphur as the base materials. They also used metal balls and nails as shrapnel. "Such bombs are used by members of Indian Mujahideen. A National Security Group (NSG) team has also confirmed the similarities of materials used here and in the Patna blasts reported on October 27 last year during a BJP rally in Bihar. Experts also point out that Al-Umma attacks are usually targeted at some leader or a specific person rather than the public," a source said. As reported earlier, one passenger, identified as Swathi died and nine others were injured in the blast on May 1.

A new security system has been put in place to totally prevent infiltration." Basu said Police had also conducted a thorough search of 21 islands dotting Palk Straits to ascertain if 'outsiders' were camping there and to seize weapons and bombs, if any.

A forensic examination of the remains of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) collected from the two coaches of Bangalore-Guwahati Express have revealed that the explosives were similar to the Patna (Bihar) bombs, which exploded on October 27, 2013, Financial Express reports on May 8. While the explosives used in the train were put in singular elbow-pipes, in Patna each IED was made of at least two such pipes. In both the incidents, analogue clocks were used as timers, a senior official said. The National Security Guard (NSG), which conducted the post-blast analysis of the train coaches, has in a report to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs said the bombs weighing 1.5 kilogram, had been kept in a bag. The primary explosives used in the IED was ammonium nitrate mixed with petrol. “We had manage to recover the timer used in Patna in a good condition. The timer used in Chennai blasts is badly damaged and we have not been able to get all the pieces and assemble them. The brand would be known by a second forensic examination, which is underway. We will try to match the needle and other components in our possession with the Patna one,” said the official. If the brand of the timer matches with those used in Patna, it would mean there was a similarity between Bodh Gaya, Patna and Chennai bombs. “They were not supposed to explode at the Chennai station. We think the bags were kept under the lower berth of coaches S- 4 and S-5 in Bangalore and somebody else was to fetch them at a destination, which was definitely not Chennai. The woman techie, who was killed in the explosion, died because she was sitting opposite the berth under which the IED was kept and her body took the impact. The other 14 injured only had minor injuries,” said another official. Separately, Tamil Nadu Director General of Police (DGP) K Ramanujam on May 8 announced a reward of INR 5,00,000 to anyone providing information that leads to the identification of the culprits behind the twin blasts at Chennai Central on May 1, reports The Times of India.

The Supreme Court on May 16 acquitted all six convicts, three of whom were awarded death sentence and one life imprisonment, in the 2002 terror attack on Gujarat's Akshardham temple, reports The Times of India. It said the evidence was not enough to uphold conviction of the accused. Adam Ajmeri, Shan Miya alias Chand Khan and Mufti Abdul Qyyum Mansuri were awarded death sentence by a Prevention of Terrorism Activities (POTA) court in July 2006 which the High Court had confirmed in 2010. Other three accused Mohammed Salim Shaikh, Abdulmiyan Qadri and Altaf Hussain were sentenced to various prison terms. A bench of Justices A K Patnaik and V Gopala Gowda acquitted all six, who were concurrently convicted by the trial court and the Gujarat High Court, and slammed the investigating agency for shoddy investigation and the Gujarat government for not applying its mind before slapping the now extinct POTA Act. The bench also said the sanction for prosecution under POTA was mechanical and reflected lack of application of mind, hence void. It also said the confessional statements of accused were recorded without following the due procedure prescribed under POTA making them untenable as evidence.

Gujarat Police, with the help of central agencies, have unearthed a conspiracy to free terror suspects lodged in different jails of India, including Sabarmati Central Jail of Gujarat, The Times of India reports on May 18. Sources from the agencies said that on the basis of specific information, they have tracked down a website which was operated from a server located on an island named Tokelau, south of New Zealand. This website mentions the names of terror suspects to be freed. "Some of them are lodged in Sabarmati jail in Ahmedabad," said a senior Police official of Gujarat. Police have also identified IP addresses from which the website has been accessed and 41 of them are located in Gujarat. Investigations, going on for about a fortnight, revealed that two Indian Mujahideen (IM) operatives and are based in Waziristan of Pakistan, are suspected of operating the website. While one hails from Bhatkal of Uttara Kannada District of Karnataka, and has named himself after Mohammed Ata, the 9/11 attacker, the other is from Mumbai in Maharashtra. Both of them are in touch with their IM counterparts in India and their website invites youths from India for Jihad. "We have sought the details from the cyber cafe owners to ascertain the names and addresses of people who are suspected to have used the terminals," said a senior Police official.

Police and intelligence agencies are investigating the origin of a 'circular' purportedly written by an Indian Mujahideen (IM) operative, which details the recruitment drive initiated by the banned terrorist outfit in Kerala, The Times of India reports on May 20. Probe is on to establish whether the letter has really originated from the terrorist organization or is the handiwork of mischief-mongers. The circular is in the form a directive to fellow cadres demanding a coordinated move to revive the organization that is facing serious trouble after security agencies started a crackdown against it. The letter asked the cadres to assemble at a particular place on a given date to discuss future course of action. The letter also allegedly contains the numbers of vehicles used by cadres of the outfit. The incident assumed another level when a notice attached to the circular appeared in the city on May 18. The notice was pasted at a public place under the town police station limits in Kozhikode of Kozhikode District. Police had received the same notice along with the circular, which was meant to be circulated among a particular community. Senior Police officers admitted the existence of such a poster, but refused to divulge more details. District Police Chief (Kozhikode city) A V George is leading the investigation.

The statements were made by a person who calls himself Abdur Rehman al Hindi (the Indian). The appeal is addressed to the leaders of independent extremist groups and al Qaeda affiliates around the Islamic world, including the Taliban, al Qaeda in the Yemen, al Qaeda in the Maghreb, the Islamic State of Iraq and others. Ansar-ut-Tawheed fi Bilaad Hind in the video announced its formation late last year (2013). Its first video, released in October, was called Usood-ul-Hind (Lions of India). It frequently disseminates extremist propaganda, including translated videos of al-Zawahiri's statements, in Hindi.

The interrogation of cadres of banned Student Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) revealed that the organisation wants to be the real face of home-grown terror, swearing allegiance to Taliban and al Qaeda, looking beyond ISI patronage enjoyed by Indian Mujahideen, The Times of India reports on May 22. Questioning of SIMI operatives by Madhya Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) revealed SIMI and IM had common terror targets, despite difference in ideology. And most importantly both don't work in tandem as perceived. Questioned on probable targets, SIMI Madhya Pradesh 'chief' Abu Faisal told the anti-terrorist squad they had plans to take American tourists hostage and use them as a bargaining chip to free Aafia Siddiqui, convicted al Qaeda 'financer'. Faisal, however, told ATS that his outfit will never plot bombings or abductions with IM. "The Pakistan embassy was on my hit list. Other targets were Narendra Modi and those responsible for Muzaffarnagar riots," Faisal told. State ATS is taking Faisal's confessions seriously because his gang had successfully executed the Khandwa jailbreak plan in October 2, 2013. Also, Faisal's recruit Irfan Nagori had drawn an explosive jailbreak blueprint to free Safdar Nagori, jailed at Sabarmati Central Jail in Ahmedabad (Gujarat). They had stockpiled enough ammunition to blow up prison walls, engage guards in a gunfight and storm out of the jail with Nagori.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on May 21 claimed that it has solved the October 27, 2013 Patna (Bihar) blast case with the arrest of four suspected Indian Mujahideen (IM) terrorists, reports New Indian Express. The Times of India adds on May 22 that main accused in the case Haidar Ali alias Black Beauty was arrested along with his associate Mujibullah from a bus stop in Ranchi on May 20 while Nauman Ansari and a minor were arrested on May 21 from Daltonganj. NIA Director General Sharad Kumar said, “On Tuesday we picked up mastermind of the blast Haider Ali alias Black Beauty and Mojibullah and after their sustained interrogation, other two suspects -- Numan Ansari and a juvenile -- were held. With this, we have arrested all 13 accused in the case", New Indian Express reports on May 22. The NIA Chief further added that Haider was the most wanted terrorist on the run, after the arrest of Yasin Bhatkal, Assadullah Akhtar, Tehseen and Waqas. He was trying to galvanise Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) and IM operatives after the arrest of the top terrorists. Haider, the mastermind of Patna and also Bodh Gaya blasts of July 7, 2013, was carrying INR10,00,000 bounty on his head. “He has also been found working at the behest of foreign handlers and receiving funds through hawala [illegal money transaction] channels. Tuesday’s arrest clearly establishes the links between the SIMI and IM. The bombs used in the Patna and Bodh Gaya blasts were manufactured at Baralota lodge in Ranchi,” Kumar said. The group had a unique practice of choosing the leader of an operation through qura'h andazi (a draws of lots) and believed in using maal-e-ghanimat (war booty) for terror attacks. Sources said the group had committed robbery at a jewellery shop in Indore (Madhya Pradesh) few years ago and run away to Rampur (Uttar Pradesh). They used the money from the loot to fund terror activities, The Times of India reports on May 22. . "This SIMI network is big. We suspect some local handlers to be involved as well. We will question him over this," said an NIA officer adding that the group would also be questioned over recent Chennai blasts as the bombs have been found to be similar. The group had also recceed various Buddhist sites in Shrawasti, Sarnath and Kushinagar for attacks to avenge atrocities on Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar, the motivation that led to Bodh Gaya blasts as well.

Following the Patna (Bihar) blast of October, 2013, Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) top operatives directed that all major terror outfits should pool their resources in targeting Modi, he added. Ali, disclosed that ISI top brass was extremely unhappy with the failed attempt on Modi’s life at the Patna rally. The ISI, he claimed, felt that IM and SIMI which had jointly carried out the explosions was not competent enough to carry out such “major operations”. “The threat to Mr Modi is very high as these terror outfits are still on the lookout for an opportunity to target him. A few days ago some key SIMI operatives had openly raised slogans threatening the PM elect during a court hearing in Madhya Pradesh. So the threat perception remains high and we are closely monitoring activities of these subversive groups,” a top security official said.

Indian Mujahideen (IM) leader Riyaz Bhatkal has told IM cadres that Pakistan's Inter Service Intelligence (ISI) might now eliminate him, Dnaindia.com reports on May 24. He is, hence, planning to flee Pakistan and join hands with al Qaeda. Also, according to Indian security agencies, ideological differences emerged between ISI and IM. Relations between ISI and IM apparently soured after IM reportedly squandered a major portion of fund given to them for conducting terror operations in India. Riyaz has also made it clear to his supporters that IM is joining al Qaeda and would obey Qaeda diktats with regards to future terror operations. "To please al Qaeda, Riyaz now wants to conduct fidayeen attacks in India. In fact, Yasin Bhatkal has also revealed that now there is an al Qaeda operative based in Uttar Pradesh," said another officer. Moreover, on instructions from Afghan al Qaeda leadership, Riyaz is also spreading his network among the Rohingya Muslim community in Myanmar. "During one of the online chats, Riyaz told Yasin that this was being done on instructions from al Qaeda," the officer said.

The attack on Indian Consulate in Herat Province of Afghanistan on May 23 caused death of all four attackers by Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel and Afghan forces in an encounter that lasted 10 hours, reports The Times of India. Herat Police Chief commented, "Only five of our security personnel were wounded." Afghan Police officials said the gunmen, armed with machine guns and Rocket-Propelled Grenades (RPG), opened fire on the consulate shortly before dawn from a nearby building. Agency reports said the first RPG was fired around 3.45am. ITBP Director General (DG) Subhash Goswami said, "One of the fidayeen was killed by one of our constables while he was trying to scale the consulate wall. The other three terrorists entered an adjacent building and were neutralized by the Afghan forces. None of our jawans or the consulate staff was injured." Goswami said a general alert regarding a possible attack on consulates in Afghanistan had been received by the force a few weeks ago. "We recently reinforced our strength by 79 more men in the country in view of the threats," said Goswami. India's Ambassador to Afghanistan Amar Sinha said there were nine Indians in the mission apart from local Afghans at the time of the attack. "They fired a couple of RPG shots. It was dark and they couldn't verify where it was coming from," said Sinha. Moreover, recoveries made from one of the fidayeens showed that they had supplies for at least three days and enough arsenals to completely destroy the consulate. ITBP personnel, who repelled the attack killing one of the fidayeens while he was trying to scale the consulate wall, have found that each fidayeen carried dry fruit packets that could help him survive two-three days. Apart from this each carried one AK-47 gun with Under-Barrel Grenade Launcher (UBGL), six magazines, 17 rocket propelled grenades and four hand grenades."Had they gained entry, with such massive ammunition, they could have completely destroyed the consulate," said a senior ITBP officer. ITBP, which has around 300 personnel guarding five Indian consulates and embassies in Afghanistan, had 26 men guarding the Herat consulate.

Haider Ali alias Black Beauty, the alleged Patna blast accused wanted to build a splinter group of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) by inducting fringe elements, who were on the run after Khandwa (Madhya Pradesh) jailbreak, The Times of India reports on May 26. The five escapees were on Haider's radar. Jailbreak mastermind and state's SIMI 'chief' Abu Faisal had met Haider before his arrest in Barwani District on December 24, 2013. Those on the run include Amjad, Aslam, Zakir, Mehboob and Ejazuddin. They were last seen in Odisha where they managed to dodge a team of the state Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) despite specific inputs on location. ATS officers are now in Delhi to interrogate Haider Ali and take him into their custody. Indian security agencies have come across a series of code words reportedly used by Indian Mujahideen (IM) terrorists to communicate with each other, dnaindia.com reports on May 26. For example, 'reservation' stands for the dreaded AK47 assault rifle, 'ticket' means a pistol and a 'deposit' refers to a fidayeen. "It is a gold mine of information which will help security agencies understand how terror operatives communicate with each other," said a senior intelligence officer. According to sources, Pakistan's Inter-Service Intelligence (ISI) is referred to as 'Voda', while ISI agents are called 'Taagut'. Terror outfit al Qaeda is encoded as 'Micro' and the Waziristan-based al Qaeda is referred to as 'Waagu'. al Qaeda operatives and members are called 'uperwalen' (people on the top), said a source. IM oprative Riyaz Bhatkal and his elder brother Iqbal are called 'chta' (small) and 'bada' (big) respectively. Top IM operative Yasin Bhatkal, who was arrested by the National Investigative Agency (NIA) in August last year, is referred to as 'Prnc' (prince) and TB. Assadullah Akhtar alias Haddi is called 'Champ2'. Another top IM operative Amir Reza Khan alias Rizwan, who is believed to have joined hands with al Qaeda is simply referred as 'Rzz'. Bada Sajid, an IM operative now believed to be hiding in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province of Pakistan and linked to the al Qaeda, is called 'Chikn'. Investigative agencies have found out that even important places have been given code names. Dubai is called Dub and India is called Innd, while Delhi is called Cappt and Mumbai is Gaww. Gujarat is called Jejuu and Bhatkal is called Dehat by IM members, informed a source. A passport is termed 'Khaldy'. The NIA is referred to as 'N eye' and Jews or Yehudis are called Yao. "EN@ means Inshallah," the source added. Terror outfits have also come up with imaginative code words for arms and explosives. A pistol is called 'ticket', an AK47 assault rifle is termed 'reservation'. Fidayeens are called deposits, while a submarine is referred to as a 'mmrruine'. 'Kalungi' stands for explosives and detonators are called 'elaichi' (cardamom). Social networking sites Paltalk and Nimbuzz are referred to as 'pt' and 'n', informed the source. Riyaz Bhatkal used to operate his chat accounts with bogus IDs like 'Samlove' and 'Patara Singh'. Yasin had created fake IDs in the name of 'halwa wala', hbahaddur and diwanapyarka114, the source said.

Police teams investigation May 1, 2014 Chennai train blasts ruled out the involvement of the Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) module headed by Patna (Bihar) blasts-accused Haidar Ali, The Times of India reports on May 29. While Ali and his three associates, arrested by NIA on May 19, denied involvement, their claims have been corroborated with their location being found in Jharkhand at the time of the Chennai blasts. "As of now, there is nothing to suggest that Haidar Ali and his associates were involved in the Chennai blasts. However, there could be involvement of some other module of the same organization," an internal security officer said. The other suspect in the case, Tamil Nadu-based terror outfit Al Umma, is also being ruled out. It was being suspected that Abu Bakr Siddique of the outfit may have carried out the attacks. But investigations failed to establish a motive behind the attack and also the justification for a Tamil Nadu outfit operative to board the train in Bangalore and time the blasts for Nellore in Andhra Pradesh. The blasts happened in Chennai because the train was running almost 90 minutes late. Interrogation of the Patna blasts accused revealed that Indian Mujahideen (IM) operative Tehseen Akhtar, named in the First Information Report (FIR) as one of the accused, may not be involved in the blasts. "There is no evidence of Tehseen's direct involvement in the blasts. As yet there are only indications of Tehseen giving ideological support to the Haidar-led group," said the officer.
