According to Assistant Inspector-General of Police (IG), G.K. Ïangrai, there were no other violent incidents in the state. Additionally, District Administration promulgated curfew in places like Khyndailad, Ïewduh and Paltan Bazar in Shillong (East Khasi Hills District). The indefinite curfew in all border areas under Shella Police Station, Tyllap Police outpost and Bholaganj Police check post (in East Khasi Hills District) has been relaxed with effect from 1000 Hrs till noon on March 3 (today).

East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner (DC) Matsiewdor War Nongbri stated that “Night curfew will continue as there is apprehension of serious breach of law and order in Shillong and adjoining areas,”. He also added that curfew would continue in Lewduh, Motphran, Police Bazaar and Lew Mawlong until further orders. “The situation is totally under control but we are keeping a close watch and all precautionary steps have been taken to prevent any untoward incident,”. Moreover, ban on mobile internet was lifted in East and West Jaintia Hills District from March 3. GK Iangrai, Assistant Inspector General (IG) of Police stated that “We have registered a case based on the statement of the HNLC on March 1. The statement has created fear psychosis. We are investigating and will proceed as per law,”. The IG also added that situation is normal and under close watch. The administration relaxed curfew in many parts of Shillong including the Police Bazar area. Curfew has also been relaxed for ten hours in the tourist town of Sohra and six hours in Shella, adds Outlook on March 6. Three people including two non-tribals died in violence which started in the largely non-tribal Bazar town of Ichamati close to the Indo-Bangladesh border where clashes broke out between the local non-tribals and the Khasi Students Union activists (KSU). More than a dozen non-tribals were assaulted in different parts of the Khasi Hills including ten who were stabbed in Bara Bazar in East Khalsi Hills District of Meghalaya.

An encounter occurred between United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) militants and Meghalaya Police on March 11, at Bolbokgre village in South Garo Hills District in Meghalaya, reports Northeast Now. The encounter continued for 30 minutes. After the encounter an AK81 rifle with magazine and ammunition two smooth bore rifles, three pistols and other incriminating documents were recovered from the incident area. The Northeast Today adds that the South Garo Hills Superintendent of Police (SP) Preangshu Pandey when asked about Drishti Rajkhowa’s presence stated that it was confirmed information that Rajhkowa was moving together with six to seven militants. Meghalaya Assembly, on March 16, passed a resolution to urge the Centre to exempt the entire State of Meghalaya from the purview of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), reports The Northeast Today. The resolution stated that This include areas not covered under the Sixth Schedule. Chief minister Conrad Sangma moved the resolution on the second day of the Budget session of the Assembly. The resolution stated, “The CAA applies to areas in the State not covered under the Sixth Schedule, that is, the municipality of Shillong as defined in Para 20 of the Sixth Schedule, and hence, additional measures are required to protect and safeguard the interests of the tribal population of the State. ” The CAA has come into force on December 12, 2019 and the Act provides that it ‘shall not apply to the tribal areas of Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram or Tripura as included in the Sixth Schedule’.

Meghalaya Police on March 25 stated that it had arrested four people from unspecified location in connection the killing of one Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) member on February 28 at Ichamati in East Khasi Hills District, reports Northeast Now. The four arrested people were identified as Birendro Debnath alias Babul, Suman Dutta, Babla Acharya and Ponil Das. LurshaiHynniewta, a KSU member was critically injured in the clash at Ichamati, and later succumbed to his injuries. So far 12 people have been arrested in connection with the killing of KSU member identified as LurshaiHynniewta. The incident had sparked off ethnic clash in the state which led to imposition of curfew and death of three people. Nagaland Post adds that the clash had occurred after an anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and demand to implement Inner Line Permit rally at Ichamati organised by KSU and Federation of Khasi, Jaintia and Garo People’s (FKJGP)
