The 4.5 kilograms of drugs worth INR 36,00,00,000 was found concealed in a secret compartment of the truck. Md Idomi and Nawaz Khan, the two occupants of the truck were arrested in this connection.

On February 2, three more persons were arrested in connection with 30 January IED blast at Police Bazaar in Shillong of East Khasi Hills in Meghalaya, reports The Shillong Times. Some explosive items were also recovered. According to Chief Minister (CM) Conrad K Sangma, ‘the police arrested all those supporters and sympathisers of the Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) who were directly involved in the incident’. Meanwhile, Home Minister (HM) Lahkmen Rymbui claimed that insurgency is not gaining momentum in the state. Replying to a query on how the government is planning to enhance security in Shillong, Rymbui admitted that the police department has some constrains in terms of manpower due to Covid-19 situation. He further said that the government and the society will work together to address the challenges.

The arrestee identified as Mangsatabam Romesh Meitei alias Tonjao was directly involved in the extortion of money at various areas of Imphal east District. One .32 pistol loaded with three live rounds in a magazine, two Chinese made hand grenades and two demand letters of KCP (PWG) signed by its finance chief Wanglemba Meitei were recovered from his possession.

The three arrested militants were identified as Maithon Liangmai, Mairikinang Abonmei and Siraibou Malangmai. One 7.65 pistol and three live rounds, a magazine, one country made shotgun with 11 cartridges, one country made hunting gun and 37 extortion slips were recovered from their possession.

Wahengbam who started working for KYKL in 2021, was arrested twice earlier as an active member of KCP-Noyon (KCP-N) and People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak-progressive (PREPAK-pro) in the year 2017 and 2020 respectively.

On February 5, three militants of United National Liberation Front (UNLF) were arrested in separate operations in Imphal area of Imphal West District in Manipur, reports Nagaland Post. The three UNLF militants identified as Sanasam Shyamsal Meitei alias Nanao, RK Solomon alias Amon Singh and Waikhom Nganglentomba Meitei alias Gogo were arrested along with two Glock pistols with a magazine each loaded with 23 live rounds and 17 live rounds. One of the arrestees, Solomon, was staying at Myanmar since 2021 and other two have been working under him.

On February 6, officials of the Meghalaya Home Department stated that the juvenile arrested in IED bomb blast was also involved in planning and executing various explosions in the city in 2021, reports The Shillong Times. During interrogation, the juvenile revealed that he was part of the team involved in the IED blast in Laitumkhrah on August 10, 2021 and also planted the explosive device recovered on October 4, 2021 at the ruling NPP’s office in Shillong. According to Home Minister (HM) Lakhmen Rymbui, Hynñiewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) has been extensively using social media to influence youths in Meghalaya. The juvenile along with other four arrested were influenced and misguided through social media.

Gohanch Sangma and Cherian Momin along with Champion R Sangma were arrested along with a purported bundle of FICN following a search of the Bolero vehicle they were travelling into. According to official statement, Sangma is said to receive the bundle worth of INR 15,00,000. However, the pack had only Rs 10,000 in original currency notes while the rest was white paper. Sangma also said that INR 3,50,000 was paid to one Poresh Das and one Bijay Das at Kamrup Petrol Pump for the FICN worth INR 15,00,000.
