the ICT-2 on November 3 said JeI played a pertinent and culpable role in killing notable pro-liberation intellectuals, the best sons and daughters of the soil, reports The Daily Star. The tribunal said JeI approved the killing squad formed by Al-Badr men, who in fact belonged to then JeI student wing Islami Chhatra Sangha. The tribunal further said it was JeI and its creations, fanatic groups like Al-Badr, Razakar, Al-Shams, and the Peace Committee, who took a stance to “save Pakistan and Islam” even if it required the annihilation of pro-liberation Bangalee nation. It said JeI indulged in indiscriminate massacre of their political opponents belonging to the Bangalee nation in the name of eliminating “miscreants” and “infiltrators”. This resulted in the killing of more than 200 brightest minds of the country in December 1971 and Al-Badr was used to execute the plan.

The statement comes a day after Opposition leader Khaleda Zia urged President Hamid to mediate between the Government and the opposition to decide on the form of interim government, without which she threatened to boycott the polls. “The election will take place, and no one will be able to thwart it,” she further asserted.
