Similarly, HeI's former Dhaka unit General Secretary Junaid Al Habib asked, "Will government remove the idol, or should we do it ourselves? If we do it, no idol will exist in the country, except the ones in the temples. You are very much aware of our capacity."

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal at a programme marking the first founding anniversary of ourislam24.com, an online news portal focusing on Islamic ideology at Jatiya Press Club in Dhaka city on June 10 urged the country’s Muslim population to come forward to check the spread of extremism with a rational approach, reports New Age. “At first, a vested quarter carried out extremist activities in the country, and propagated that Qoumi madrassah students are the perpetrators. Later, the quarter targeted the students of universities and English medium schools, and used them to spread extremism across the country, misguiding their young minds. This vested quarter is trying to defame both the country and its Muslim population. You have to come forward to solve your own problem. There’s no scope of ignoring this issue. You have to preach the Islam and its holy messages truthfully.’’ he said.

An anti-money laundering taskforce on June 18 asked the Government to introduce a permanent Attorney service engaging competent lawyers to fight militancy, reports The Daily Star. The taskforce under the Finance Ministry made the decision at a meeting chaired by Finance Minister AMA Muhith at the Secretariat. The 16-member body - the National Coordination Committee on Anti-Money Laundering and Combating Financing of Terrorism - is tasked with overseeing the Government's initiatives to prevent terror financing and money laundering. Concerns were raised over the release of a number of militant suspects on bail in recent times due to weaknesses of the prosecution, several officials who attended the meeting told. When a suspected militant gets bail, it's the prosecutors' duty to inform the Attorney General's Office about it, but they don't do it in most cases, a number of officials said at the meeting.
