A Government employee was killed and 30 people sustained injuries in a suicide bomb attack by suspected Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) terrorists in front of the office of the Deputy Commissioner in the Gazipur district on December 1, according to Daily Star. Police arrested the severely injured suicide bomber, who was in the guise of a tea-vendor, from the spot immediately after the blast. The suicide bomber, identified as Abdur Razzak, claimed that he is a JMB member.

A police contingent moving towards the Probhati Club near Habla Government Primary School, subsequent to receiving information about an assembly of 25 JMB cadres, were fired upon by the militants. A 15-minute long crossfire resulted in the injury to three police personnel while the militants managed to escape. Nine rounds of ammunition of shotgun and rifle were recovered from the spot.

A teacher of management at Mollah Azad Memorial Degree College at Atrai in the Naogaon district, Lutfar had been evading arrest since Bangla Bhai went into hiding in 2004. The JMB cadres are returning to mosques and madrassas (seminaries) and resuming their militant activities in the Assassuni, Tala, Kalaroa, Shyamnagar and Sadar sub-districts of Satkhira. It has also launched a recruitment drive in the madrassas by targeting students from poor families. Quoting some fishermen, the report further said that the militants with the help of pirates have set up dens deep inside the Sundarban area. Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel arrested a suspected JMB cadre, Abdullah Bhuiyan, of North Uttar Khan from Dhaka’s Uttara locality. Two suspected JMB cadres, identified as Farid Mollah and Maulana Mostaq Ahmed, were arrested from Baniachang sub-district of Habiganj district. Two more JMB cadres, Abdus Salam and Sheikh Rafiqul Islam, were arrested during separate drives from Dashani and the premises of the Islamic Foundation at Mithapukur area of Bagerhat.
