an understanding was reached in the recently concluded five-day meet between the Border Security Force (BSF) and Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) in Dhaka regarding Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) smuggling, reports Times of India on October 2. The two forces also agreed to set up a joint taskforce to check FICN smuggling. BSF has arrested 46 people in 2012, including 18 Bangladeshi nationals, for smuggling FICN worth INR 1.5 million from Bangladesh into India. BSF had arrested 44 Indians and 13 Bangladeshis with INR 4.4 million worth FICN in 2011.

At least 25 students were injured, three of them sustained bullet injuries, on October 2 in a clash between Islamic Chhatra Shibir (ICS) and Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists at Rajshahi University (RU), reports Daily Star. Further, Police arrested 15 activists of ICS after conducting raids in different dormitories soon after the incident. The clash started when ICS activists threw brickbats at a BCL procession near Shahidullah Arts building.

Mahbub Kamal, a former student leader and a prosecution witness on October 3 told the International Crimes Tribunal-2 (ICT-2) that after the Liberation War, he had found a Razakar's identity card signed by war crimes accused and Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) secretary general Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed, reports The Daily Star. He also said Mojaheed used to visit a Razakar camp at the Dhaka city's Fakirerpool during the war. According to him Razakars and Al-Badr men (two anti-liberation forces) committed war crimes just like the Pakistani army did and in some cases their crimes were more vicious.

Police on October 5 filed two separate cases against 85 Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS) leaders and activists of the District unit with Sadar model Police Station in Chapai Nawabganj District, on charge of attacking Policemen, reported The Daily Star. Golam Mortuza, officer in-charge (OC) of Sadar model Police Station, said a group of ICS activists brought out a procession from Octroy intersection at around 12:15 pm and started obstructing the vehicular movement and vandalising vehicles. On information, a Police patrol team rushed to the spot and tried to stop the procession. At this, the ICS activists attacked the law enforcers with brickbats, forcing them to fire two tear gas shells and charge baton, he said. Later, Sub Inspector Rahmat Ali filed a case against Shafik Enayet Ullah, Golam Mostofa, Shahidul Islam, Selim Reza, Torikul Islam Nayan, Golam Zakaria, Anwar Hossain, Mohammad Hadi, Saiful Islam and Shahidul Islam Shahin under the speedy trial act. He also filed another case against 85, identifying 15 (including the aforesaid ten) accused and keeping the rest 70 unidentified, under separate sections of Bangladesh Penal Code.

Journalist Mahbub Kamal, another prosecution witness on October 10 told the International Crimes Tribunal-2 (ICT-2) that Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) leader AKM Yusuf formed the Razakar, a collaborating force of the Pakistani junta, during the Liberation War, reports The Daily Star. According to "Genocide '71", a book that details the accounts of the wartime killers and collaborators, Yusuf in May 1971, formed the Razakar force at a meeting of 96 JeI workers in Khulna. The investigation agency of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) finished its probe on October 9, setting in motion the process of the trials of the two in connection with crimes against humanity committed during the Liberation War. Two embassy officials were scheduled to meet Nafis to get a copy of the charges brought against him and sent those to Bangladesh. The request for the consular access to Nafis was made to the US Government during a meeting between the Bangladesh embassy officials and US State Department personnel on October 19. A prosecution witness in the sensational Chittagong arms haul cases on October 31 told the Chittagong Metropolitan Special Tribunal-1 that the arms cache was brought for the Indian separatist organisation United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA), reports The Daily Star. Making his second deposition before the tribunal in the cases, former havildar of Bandar Police outpost Golam Rasul said while on duty at the outpost on April 1, 2004, he received a phone call around 10:45pm. The caller told him that some illegal goods were being unloaded at the jetty of Chittagong Urea Fertiliser Limited (CUFL). When Rashul and sergeant Alauddin went to the jetty they met Hafiz and ULFA leader Abul Hossain. Hafiz and Abul were taken to Karnaphuli Police Station, there the duo admitted that the goods were arms brought for ULFA and the government high officials knew about it.
