International Crimes Tribunal-1 (ICT-1) on June 1 handed death sentence to Mohibur Rahman alias Bara Miah (65), jail term until death his sibling Mozibur Rahman alias Ranga Miah (60) and cousin Abdur Razzak (63) finding them guilty of committing crimes against humanity in Habiganj District during the Liberation War, reports New Age. The three were found guilty of all the four charges for which they were indicted on September 29, 2015. Mohib was sentenced to death for gunning down two freedom fighters in the village Khagaura under Baniachang in the then Habiganj sub-division on November 11, 1971. Mozib and Razzak were handed jail terms until death on the same charge.

The report said “In 2015, Bangladesh experienced an increase in terrorist attacks against religious minorities and government installations and for the first time, transnational groups have claimed responsibility for these attacks. A Jhalakathi District Court on June 5 sentenced nine militants of Harkat-ul-Jihad-al Islami Bangladesh (HuJI-B) to four years' imprisonment for their involvement in criminal and militant activities, reports The Daily Star. It also fined each of them BDT 10,000. In case of failure to comply with the court order, they will have to serve three months more in jail. The convicts are Moshiur Rahman, Nurul Islam, Baki Billah, Sohag, Mohammad Jubayer, Abul Bashar, Minhajul Abedin, Abdul Aziz and Serajul Islam.On August 14, 2013, Police arrested the nine HuJI-B militants from a mosque near Khademul Islamic Qawmi Madrasa of Paschim Kamdepur village while they were holding a secret meeting there. Police also recovered a hand grenade, four sharp weapons and jihadi books from the mosque.

Police said they are suspecting the same group– that threw away a cache of arms last week– might have dropped the transceivers and other explosive substances in the water in the wake of recent ‘block-raids.’ The gel and the chips are used to make improvised explosive devices, Police said. The letter was signed by a person who identified himself as AB Siddique from Kishoreganj. Although the letter mentioned no affiliation with any militant outfit, a similar threat from the so-called Islamic State of Bangladesh (ISB) to Dhaka city’s Ramkrishna Mission on June 15 was also signed by a person named AB Siddique. Addressing the high priest, the letter read: “You will be brutally hacked or shot to death. The golden statues of Gautama Buddha will not be able to save you.” Terming the Buddhist religion an enemy of Islam, the sender added “I become a true Muslim by killing Hindus, Buddhists and Christians.”
