Daily Star reports that Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) cadres stabbed a former JMB operative, Rashidul Islam, to death in the Uttara Khan area of Dhaka on February 1. Sources said that Rashidul belonged to Panchagarh and he used to live with his wife in Uttar Khan. A third-year student at Uttara campus of Darul Ihsan University, he deserted the JMB about a year ago. Police said Rashidul was convicted for a jail term in a case filed with Joypurhat Police Station in connection with the August 17, 2005 serial bomb blasts across the country. Victim's wife Alif Nur said Rashidul was sentenced to 20 years of imprisonment. Quoting Alif Nur, Deputy Commissioner of Uttara zone Kazi Nisharul Arif said Rashidul around 20 days ago stated in public that JMB is on the wrong track and practising anti-Islamic activities. Rashidul was the imam (religious leader) of Karaihati Jama Masjid at Kaliganj in Gazipur.

A bomber belonging to Janajuddha faction of the Purba Bangla Communist Party (PBCP), identified as Habibur Rahman alias 'Bomaru' Habi (28), was arrested by the Khulna District Police from Dumuria bus stop on February 3, according to Daily Star. He was wanted in seven criminal cases filed against him with Dumuria Police Station, Police said. Police further said 'Bomaru' Habib had participated in several Tablig (religious sermon) sessions with a view to evading arrest in the face of special operations by law enforcing agencies.

This was revealed by Jamal, a former JMB ehsar (full time member) now under Police custody, as he was speaking to reporters at Uttara Police Station on February 3. Police arrested three operatives of the banned Hizb-ut-Tahrir in front of three mosques in Dhaka while they were distributing leaflets containing provocative statement against the Government and the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on February 5, according to Daily Star. They were identified as Nader Zamel Chowdhury, Reazul Hasan (22) and Wahidul Hoque (24). Tipu Sultan, Sub-Inspector of Dhanmondi Police Station, said the operatives of the banned group held a conference a few months back at a market in Dhanmondi and around 70 students of different private universities took part in the conference.
