Data from Election Commissionindicates that in the fourth phase ofupazila(sub-District) elections held on Marah 31, the average turnout was only 36.50 per cent, reports Dhaka Tribune on April 1. While the election was scheduled for 122 upazilas in the fourth phase, candidates won unopposed in 15 upazilas. Voting was suspended in all centres in Titas upazila(sub-District) of Comilla following allegations of ballot stuffing. The turnout was 43.32% in first phase upazila polls held in 111 upazilas on March 10, 41.25% in second phase held in 78 upazilas on March 18, and 41.41% in third phase held in 116 upazilas on March 24.

These militants also handed over 68 firearms and 575 sharp weapons. The New Nation adds PBCP-Lal Pataka, Chapainawabganj-Rajshahi region, ‘leader’ AbdurRazzakalias Art Babu said, "As the government has given an opportunity, I want to come back to the path of light from darkness." The six accused are Mozammel Hossain alias Saymon, Abu Siddiq Sohel alias Sakib alias Sajid, Arafat Rahman Siam alias Sajjad, Akram Hossain Abir alias Adnan, Shafiur Rahman Farabi and Maj (sacked) Syed Mohammad Ziaul Haque. Rajshahi Speedy Trial Tribunal on April 15 sentenced three people Abdus Samad Pintu, Ariful Islam Manik, and Mohammad Sabuj, to death for killing Rajshahi University Professor AKM Shafiul Islam on November 15,2014, reports Daily Star. In addition to the capital punishment, each convict would have to pay a fine of BTk 10,000. The court also acquitted eight other accused in the case, as prosecution could not prove the allegations bought against them beyond doubt. Initially, Islamic terror formation, Ansar Al Islam Bangladesh-2 had claimed responsibility for the killing, however,the charge sheet submitted by the Detective Branch ruled out any militant outfit's involvement in the murder. investigations into the case reveled the involvement of several Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal (youth wing of Bangladesh Nationalist Party)members.

About 63 percent of the female terror suspects in the country are linked to “Neo Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB)”, according to findings of the counter terrorism unit on April 18, reports Daily Star. A Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit official came up with the findings, analysing profiles of 85 female militant suspects arrested in the last couple of years. According to CTTC, 23 percent of female terror suspects are from JMB, and five percent are from Hizb ut-Tahrir (HuT), said Mahfuza Liza.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Sessions’ Judge Court on April 18 ordered the freezing of three UK bank accounts of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) acting chief Tarique Rahman and his wife Dr. Zubaida Rahman, reports Dhaka Tribune. Judge KM Imrul Kayes of the Court passed the order following a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). The three accounts are with a British bank Santander UK plc.
