According to Daily Star, 19 out of 20 top extremists belonging to different left-wing outfits in Chuadanga and some other south-western districts are yet to be arrested in spite of the announcement of a Taka 20 lakh reward by the Government on October 23, 2005 for their arrest. A combing operation launched by the Rapid Action Battalion a week ago reportedly achieved little success and the extremists continue to operate in their respective areas. Apart from collecting toll through grassroots cadres, some of them are controlling party activities staying in a neighbouring country, the sources said. The wanted extremists include Abdur Rashid Malitha alias Tapan alias Dada Tapan, Jamal Uddin alias Rabi alias Nuruzzaman, Abir Hasan, Rony Biswas, Sahjahan, Azad, Thandu, Amirul, Habibar alias Oltu, Mizanur alias Major, Rabiul, Mozammel alias Moka, Sahidul, Khorshed, Shomser alias Sama, Tomsel and Kismat.

Bangladesh’s central bank has fined the country’s top Sharia-based commercial bank, Islami Bank, for transactions linked to Islamist terrorists. "A 100,000 taka ($1,425) fine was imposed on the IBBL under the anti-money laundering act after we had detected some transactions by them in violation of banking rules," an official with the Bangladesh Bank told Reuters on April 6. "Although the amount is small, it is significant as the first penalty of the sort imposed by the central bank, which is investigating suspicious transactions in a number of banks," said the unnamed central bank official. A senior official of the Islami Bank had last week denied it had played a role in financing terrorists although central bank regulators detected funds had been transferred to suspicious accounts from its branches.
