The United States (U.S) special envoy for Afghan peace Zalmay Khalilzad said the U.S. government assessment reveals that the Islamic State-Khorasan (IS-K) terrorist group carried out the recent deadly attacks in Afghanistan, reports The Khaama Press on May 15. “The USG has assessed IS-K conducted the horrific attacks on a maternity ward and a funeral earlier this week in Afghanistan. IS-K has demonstrated a pattern for favouring these types of heinous attacks against civilians and is a threat to the Afghan people and to the world,” Khalilzad said in a Twitter post. Khalilzad further added “The USG has assessed ISIS-K conducted the horrific attacks on a maternity ward and a funeral earlier this week in Afghanistan. ISIS has demonstrated a pattern for favouring these types of heinous attacks against civilians and is a threat to the Afghan people and to the world.” Attacks in Kabul and Nangarhar Province lead to the death of 56 people.
