A security personnel was killed and two others including a para-military Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) troopers were injured in a militant attack on a joint Police and paramilitary CRPF in Pulwama District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) on May 21, reports Daily Excelsior. Militants fired indiscriminately at a joint naka (barricade) party near Prichoo area of Pulwama district, resulting in injuries to two Policemen and one CRPF trooper. One of the Policemen identified as Anoop Singh of Indian Reserve Police (IRP) 10th battalion succumbed to his injuries. The other injured security personnel have been identified as Mohammad Ibrahim of 282 IRP of Kishtwar and CRPF man Krishna Kumar. Intelligence sources held The Resistance Front (TRF) – an amalgam of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Hizb-ul-Mujaheedin (HM) – responsible for the attack, adds The Times of India.
Meanwhile, three militants affiliated to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) were arrested after a brief shoot out in Lolab forest area in Kupwara District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) on May 21, reports Daily Excelsior. The arrested militants were identified as Aabid Hussain Wani, Zakir Rafiq Bhat, and Javid Ahmad Dar. Kupwara Police along with 28RR and 162Bn CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in the area. During the search operation the militants started firing on the search party. Security Forces (SFs) persuaded them to surrender and after a brief shootout all the three were arrested alive during the operation. Incriminating materials including arms and ammunition were recovered from their possession. Preliminary investigation revealed that the trio was in contact with their handlers across via social media, who motivated them to pick arms and join militancy.
Separately, a drone camera flying over the 50 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) Army camp at Kakapora near Railway bridge on Srinagar-Pulwama road in Pulwama District was fired upon drone and destroyed by the Army personnel deployed there on May 22, reports Daily Excelsior.
