United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) ‘commander in chief’ Paresh Baruah has been in regular touch with top leaders of the pro-talk faction of ULFA-I, reports Northeast Now on September 15. Believed to be presently in China, Baruah also speaks regularly to the senior leaders of the pro-talk faction of ULFA-I in order to be updated about the situation in Assam. According to report in Assam Tribune, as quoted in Northeast Now, the Myanmar Army’s operation at Taga in Myanmar against Northeast insurgent groups has propelled ULFA-I to shift its bases closer to China border. Though the operation launched in 2019 by Myanmar Army did not resulted in loss in militant numbers yet the headquarters of ULFA-I was eradicated. Presently, ULFA-I militants have established makeshift camps in Myanmar along China border.
