On September 14, an over ground worker (OGW) of the United Achik Liberation Army (UALA) and A’chik Songna An’pachakgipa Kotok (ASAK) was killed in an encounter near Sherwood School on the outskirts of Tura of West Garo Hills District in Meghalaya, reports The Shillong Times. According to Police sources, the OGW identified as Robison R Marak opened fire with AK rifle at the security forces (SF) when asked to stop at the naka checking. In brief exchange of fire, Marak was killed. Other than being an OGW, Marak was also involved in criminal activities like extortion, kidnapping etc. across the West Garo Hills District. Upon further searching the encounter site in presence of two Executive Magistrates, one AK-56 Assault Rifle, one AK Rifle magazine, 19 nos. live 7.62 mm ammunition, one black color Bajaj Platina bike without registration number plate along with one helmet, five nos. empty cartridge case of 7.62 mm ammunition & twenty nos. empty cartridge case of 9 mm ammunition.
Four persons, including social activist Joannes Lamare was arrested on September 16 was arrested near Ryndang Briew in East Khasi Hills District for attempting to form a militant outfit. The four accused had gone to visit Hebron, on the outskirts of Dimapur in Nagaland to garner the support of National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN-IM) in a bid to form new militant outfit.
