On June 24, one kg of heroin worth INR 7,00,00,000 concealed in a vegetable sack was seized from Lahorijan area of Karbi Anglong in Assam, reports Northeast Today. A father-son duo was arrested while they were transporting the seized heroin. Chief Minister (CM) Himanta Biswa Sarma lauded the police for the seizure.
On June 22, around 21 suspected Bangladeshi nationals were arrested from a hotel at Badarpur area in Karimganj District in Assam, reports The Statesman. Later, on the same day, another Bangladeshi national was arrested. The 22 arrested Bangladeshis including alleged Rohingyas did not have proper valid documents during a search operation. According to Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) of Karimganj, Partha Pratim Das, these arrested illegal immigrants including nine males and nine females, along with three kids were coming from Maharashtra and planned to return to Bangladesh via the Tripura border. Further investigation is going on to unearth linkages.
