The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has started investigations into money laundering by eight ‘couriers’ of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) arrested last year by National Intelligence Agencies (NIA) and local Police from Kiranpur Tehsil (revenue unit) in Balaghat District of Madhya Pradesh, reports The Time of India on May 27. ED’s letter to Balaghat Police has sought information about the First Information Report (FIR) and other documents related to the arrested Maoists identified as Sanjay Naji Bhai Chitrajhoda and Rohit Shiva Bhai Butani of Mumbai, Ghanshyam Shivlal and Vijay Jeevan Koreti of Anchle in Gondia, Maharashtra, Shakil Khan and Wajid Tethri of Kota, Rajasthan, and Tausif and Jitendra Kumar Agarwal of Jhalawar of Rajasthan. Police had recovered Pistols, Magazines, One magazine for an AK47, 8 Gelatin sticks, detonating cords, mobile phones and two Sports Utility Vehicle (SUVs). The arrested Maoists have admitted that they were paid INR 2.5 million for the supply of night vision devices, binoculars, high-range torches and tactical boots, said Police official.
