Three militants were killed on the Line of Control (LoC) at Khari Thrayat in Nowshera sector of Rajouri District in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) on January 1, reports Daily Excelsior. Earlier, South Asia Terrorism Portal (SATP) had reported about the incident, in which two Army personnel were killed in the encounter that followed during an infiltration attempt by suspected militants while Pakistan army violated the Cease Fire Agreement (CFA) on the LoC. The Army said Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Police launched joint operations in entire Nowshera sector to trace and eliminate the militants, who were suspected to be Pakistanis and had infiltrated into this side from the LoC for specific action like targeting defence installations and civilian areas. However, their plan was foiled by the troops who engaged the militants in the gun battle. Further, in past about one week, 13 Pakistan Army personnel have been killed in retaliation by the Indian troops during Pakistani CFA violations on the LoC, Army said.

Three Hizb-ul-Mujaihdeen (HM) militants, including a ‘commander’ were killed in an encounter with Security Forces (SFs) which ensued during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in Tral area of Pulwama District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in India on January 12, reports Daily Excelsior. The slain militants were identified ‘commander’ Umer Fayaz Lone alias Hamad Khan, resident of Seer Tral; and his two associates - Faizan Hamid, resident of Mandoora Tral; and Adil Bashir Mir alias Abu Dujana, resident of Monghama Tral. According to the First Information Report (FIR) filed at the CTD Police station, 10 to 12 alleged militants entered Pakistan from Afghanistan to carry out attacks in Peshawar, Charsadda, Mohmand and Malakand areas. The CTD after getting intelligence report about the presence of the alleged militants launched an operation, officials said. The alleged militants instead of surrendering opened fire at the law enforcement personnel. CTD officials retaliated firing in which five alleged militants were killed, the FIR added. The rest of the alleged militants managed to escape in the cover of darkness. Three suicide jackets, three submachine guns, two pistols, two hand grenades and walkie-talkie set were recovered from the possession of slain militants. Head constables Chander B Bakhre and Rajeev Sharma and constable Parmar Satpal of the CRPF's 179 Battalion were part of a joint paramilitary-police team manning the temporary checkpoint near the Ahad Baba crossing in Sopore town when the pheran-clad militant fired at them and escaped. All three personnel who were fatally injured in the shooting later succumbed to their injuries. The other two personnel – head constable Biswajeet Ghosh and constable Javed Ahmad – suffered multiple injuries. A fledgling outfit called The Resistance Force (TRF) aka JK Fighters, claimed responsibility for the attack."The outfit, which owes allegiance to the Lashkar-e-Taiba and two other Pakistan-based groups, first made an appearance in the Valley in September last year," a top intelligence official said. Security Forces killed four terrorists on the site, who an eyewitness said were wearing Afghan military uniforms adds The Khaama Press. The Ministry of Interior says 72 civilians, including children, were rescued. Unnamed sources said there is a guesthouse of foreign nationals behind the hospital and this was the target of the attackers who wanted to get access through the health facility. The Taliban denied their involvement in the attack.
