One terrorist was killed during an intense exchange of fire in the general area of Datta Khel in North Waziristan District on April 19, reports Geo TV. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said the exchange of fire between terrorists and Security Forces (SFs) took place in which one terrorist, identified as Fareed Ahmed, was killed. ISPR added that weapons and ammunition were recovered from the possession of the killed terrorist, who remained actively involved in terrorist activities against SFs.

The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) on April 24 conducted 16 information-based operations (IBOs) in different Districts of Punjab and arrested seven suspects along with arms and ammunitions, reports Daily Times. According to a spokesman, the CTD teams recovered 885 grams explosives, six detonators, safety fuse 9 feet, 66 banned / hate materials, PKR 41,210 in cash and three mobile phones from the possession of the arrested accused. The arrested suspects were identified as Abdul Aziz, Rasheed Ahmad, Muhammad Arshad Jamal, Ghulam Hussain, Atiqur Rehman, Abdul Aziz and Muhammad Awais. They all belonged to banned organisations.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and Security Forces (SFs) on December 10 killed four Islamic State Khorasan (IS-K) terrorists in the mountainous area near the Pak-Afghan border of Dardoni in North Waziristan District, reports Dawn. According to a CTD press release, the terrorists from IS-K were killed in retaliatory fire by a team conducting an intelligence-based joint operation upon receiving a tip-off that the terrorists from Afghanistan were crossing the border. The slain terrorists were the IS-K’s local commander Mohammad Dawood Yaqoob, Abdullah Khan and Mohammad Laiq Piauddin. A fourth terrorist could not be identified. Two hand grenades, two Kalashnikov rifles, six magazine storages, two pistols and dozens of cartridges along with Pakistani currency, identification documents and other valuables were recovered from the possession of slain terrorists.

The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) on December 15 arrested a terrorist, identified as Akmal, from Rawalpindi city of Punjab, reports Samaa TV. Akmal was the mastermind of the Civil Lines suicide attack on November 2, 2009, which claimed the lives of 36 people. A spokesperson for the CTD said that the terrorist had devised plans to attack Islamabad and Rawalpindi. A cache of explosives, including four detonators and safety fuses used to make suicide vests, were also recovered from the possession of arrested terrorist. “A military court has already announced its verdict and found his two accomplices guilty in the attack,” the spokesperson said, adding that the two accomplices of the alleged terrorist are currently serving their sentence in Rawalpindi prison.

The Punjab Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), on December 24, arrested seven suspected terrorists belonging to banned organisations during an intelligence-based operation, according to a statement issued by the CTD, reports Dawn. The press release said that five detonators, banned literature including 39 pamphlets, stickers and a receipt book of an outlawed organization, and Rs 22,870 cash were recovered from them. It added that two cell phones and a 3.8-metre-long safety wire were also obtained from the arrested suspects. The CTD said that the suspects are involved in the planning of terrorism in sensitive cities of the province.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement that a group of cadres had abducted Lieutenant Colonel Laiq Baig Mirza and his cousin Umer Javed as they were returning after a paying a visit to the Quaid-e-Azam Residency. "After receiving the information, Army Quick Reaction Forces were immediately dispatched to chase fleeing terrorists who were traced moving to their hideouts in general area Mangi Dam," ISPR said. A search operation was launched by Security Forces using Special Service Group (SSG) troops and helicopters to locate the abductees and the terrorists. "Resultantly, on the night between July 13 and July 14, a group of six to eight terrorists was spotted moving in a nullah in nearby mountains by one of the teams of security forces. On sensing their possible encirclement, terrorists shot Lt. Col. Mirza and attempted to flee," the statement added. An exchange of fire ensued, resulting the killing of five terrorists. The SFs also recovered a cache of improvised explosive devices and ammunition. However, in the process, remaining terrorists along with other abductee Umer managed to flee from the scene, according to the statement. Earlier, BLA ‘spokesperson’ Jeehand Baloch claimed the custody of Lieutenant Colonel Laiq Baig Mirza, reports Radio Zrumbesh. He was arrested in an intelligence-based operation by BLA’s special force, Special Tactical Operations Squad (STOS). Lieutenant Colonel Laiq Baig Mirza was a primary target and he was being tracked for days by BLA’s intelligence units. On 12 July his movements were followed throughout the day and he was finally arrested in an area where risk to members of public was at minimum. Colonel Laeeq was travelling with his family on the day; however, the family members were treated with utmost respect and they were not harmed in any way as they were not involved in any crimes. Colonel Laeeq of 96 L/C belonged to 12th Azad Kashmir Regiment of Army. He previously held commanding positions in Pakistan Rangers. Currently he was a commanding officer of Pakistan’s Military Intelligence (MI). He was working in DHA Quetta as a cover for his secretive role. Colonel Laeeq was arrested for being an officer of occupying forces, and his direct involvement in Baloch genocide and grave human rights violations, including enforced disappearances of women and children, and other crimes. He was given full opportunity to prove his innocence in a Baloch national court. During the proceedings he confessed to all his crimes and was awarded death sentence, said Jeehand Baloch. BLA has compiled a list of military officers that are directly involved in Baloch genocide. Strict action will be taken against all such officers and they will be brought to justice, adds Jeehand Baloch.

The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) on June 12 foiled an attempt of another bomb explosion in Quetta, the provincial capital of Balochistan, as it recovered and diffused an improvised explosive device (IED) planted in a motorcycle, reports Samaa TV. Acting on a tip-off, CTD stopped a suspected motorcyclist during checking and recovered a two-kilogrammes IED planted in it. The suspect was arrested and Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) immediately defused the explosive device. A remote control and a pistol were also recovered from the suspect’s possession. The suspect was identified as Nizamuddin alias Khalid who confessed during the investigation that he was part of a nine-member terrorist group that carried out several terrorist activities including a suicide attack martyring Deputy Inspector General of Police Hamid Shakeel. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the terrorists fired on security forces in Bloro area of the District which initiated a response from the security forces. "Resultantly, four terrorists were killed. Weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the killed terrorists," it added. The statement added that during the intense exchange of fire, Naib Subedar Ishtiaq, a 44-year-old resident of Nowshera and Sepoy Kamran, a 21-year-old resident of Orakzai, embraced martyrdom after having fought gallantly. According to the first information report (FIR), station house officer (SHO) of Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Police Station got a tip about the presence of some suspects with explosives in Shakarparian and that they were planning a terrorist attack. The SHO along with other policemen was on surveillance duty at Srinagar Highway near Zero Point at that time and shortly reached the area, the FIR said, adding that five suspects were spotted there. Four of them were caught while one managed to escape, the FIR said, adding that the four suspects were residents of different areas of the capital. During search, a shopping bag was recovered from them that had explosives weighing 500 grams, two detonators, iron nails of different sizes and ball bearings weighing 450g.

The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) on May 24 arrested five cadres of Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) and Sindhudesh Revolutionary Army (SRA) from different areas of Sindh, reports The Balochistan Post. The CTD said it had arrested three BLA cadres from Karachi, the provincial capital of Sindh. A cache of arms and ammunition were recovered from the arrested cadres, including 11 hand grenades, 50 detonators and 15 safety fuses. CTD said the BLA cadres were involved in an attack targeting the Army convoy in 2005. They had also transported over 22 kilos of explosives from Jacobabad to Sukkur in January 2022. Separately, the CTD identified the SRA cadres as Manzoor Hussain who was arrested in Subhan Colony of Hyderabad city (Hyderabad District). The CTD claimed that he was involved in the bomb blasts in Saddar, Karachi, and the Hyderabad Railway Track. CTD said that Hussain was also the mastermind of various attacks targeting the Security Forces (SFs). The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) on November 3 arrested one Sindh Revolutionary Army (SRA) terrorist from Gulistan-i-Jauhar area of Karachi, the provincial capital of Sindh, who allegedly intended to kill a Chinese doctor in Hyderabad and was associated with the perpetrators of a similar attack on Chinese dentists in Karachi in September, reports Dawn. A statement by the CTD spokesperson, the CTD’s personnel and a Federal intelligence agency conducted an operation in Gulistan-i-Jauhar after receiving information about the suspect’s presence in the area. They subsequently arrested a cadre of SRA, identified as Afzal Lund alias Aafi, the statement said, adding that a 30-bore unlicensed pistol along with a 5-round magazine and a motorcycle were seized from his possession. The CTD said the suspect had admitted during interrogation that he had been in contact with SRA chief Zulfiqar Khaskheli, who was in Germany. Khaskheli was providing financial assistance to Lund and it was with the money sent by him that the latter had bought weapons and the motorcycle, according to the statement. The CTD said Lund had completed the recce for killing the Chinese doctor in Hyderabad but was arrested before carrying out the attack.

A statement issued by the Karachi Police Media Cell, quoting Civil Lines Station House Officer Raja Tariq, said an “encounter” between CTD personnel and “terrorists” took place in the area, in which 45-year-old Assistant Sub-Inspector Irfan, 47-year-old constable Arshad Khan, 50-year-old Constable Muhammad Amir and Constable Mola Bux, whose age was around 46-47 years old, were injured. In a press conference at his office, CTD Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Asif Aijaz Shaikh said that the Balochistan CTD had shared information with the Sindh CTD and a federal intelligence agency that two most wanted IS-K militants — Syed Aimal Khan alias Hamza (resident of Pishin) and Abdullah alias Mamum (from Quetta) — who were involved in major terrorism incidents in Balochistan were present in Mulla Isa Goth area of Gulshan-e-Myanmar Town. Taking action on the tip-off, Shaikh said a joint team of the intelligence agency and the CTD led by CTD In-charge Raja Umer Khattab was set up. One suicide jacket, two hand grenades, two 9mm pistols, 80 ammunition rounds, detonators, ball bearings, magnet (a computer hardware disk magnet which is used to prepare an improvised explosive device) and one target list recovered from the encounter site. DIG Shaikh said the Balochistan CTD identified the slain militants, who were initially affiliated with the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) but later on joined the IS-K. He added that the duo were involved in a suicide attack on DIG Police Hamid Shakeel in 2017 in Balochistan, another suicide attack in the parking area of Quetta’s Serena Hotel last year as well as several other major terrorism incidents against security personnel.

According to a press release issued by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), an intelligence-based operation (IBO) was underway in Kaman Pass since October 30 to clear a terrorist hideout. "Security forces were heli-dropped near the suspected location of terrorists to cut the escape routes and clear the hideout. However, during the establishment of blocking positions, terrorists opened fire on the security forces" in which Sepoy Shafi Ullah and Sepoy Muhammad Qaiser were killed.
