Four suspected terrorists, including the alleged mastermind of a November 23, 2018, suicide attack in Orakzai, were killed in an 'encounter' with Security Forces (SFs) in Hangu District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on January 16, reports The Dawn. A civilian was also accidentally killed in the shootout, AP reported. A local Police official, Muhammad Khalid, confirmed that security forces had conducted a raid in Hangu. A security source told that the raid was carried out after a tip-off was received that the house was serving as a militant hideout. Muhammad Islam was responsible for orchestrating the suicide attack near an imambargah (Shia place of commemoration) in lower Orakzai's Kalaya Bazaar that left at least 32 people dead and 31 injured. The Security source that Islam had ties to the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

Eleven people were taken into custody on January 18 night following a raid conducted at the North Nazimabad area of Karachi (provincial capital of Sindh), reports The News. Police further revealed that 20 suspects were already held while the 11 arrested were found possessing weapons, contraband as well as stolen motorcycles from the Taimuria neighborhood. Moreover, it was revealed that the arrested suspects were also embroiled in offences like street crimes, drug-peddling and stealing motorcycles.Police further stated that the previously seized suspects are presently undergoing interrogation while their criminal records accumulation and document verification is also being conducted.

Police have launched a search operation in Sohrab Goth, Karachi (provincial capital of Sindh) and its adjoining areas for a drone after a Sukkur-bound plane escaped a possible accident on January 18, reports The News. According to Police officials, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight PK-536 was en-route to Sukkur from the Jinnah International Airport, Karachi. Shortly after the plane took off from the airport and reached near the Afghan Basti area in Karachi’s Sohrab Goth, a ‘drone’ came close to the aircraft suddenly.According to Malir Police spokesperson, the Police were looking for the drone and its operator. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Irfan Ali Bahadur said that after receiving the information, Police mobiles were moved to Sohrab Goth and Gulshan-e-Maymarareas where they had thoroughly checked houses and also led a search operation at the farmhouses there.

A Police team raiding a gambling den at Mandi Sadiq Gunj in Bahawalnagar District of Punjab on January 20, was allegedly taken hostage by gamblers and their accomplices and later rescued by another Police contingent, reports The Dawn. According to Police sources, a Police team raided the house of one Sheikh Adnan in Mohallah Qasaban, Mandi Sadiq Gang, where a number of people were allegedly busy placing bets on the cricket match between Pakistan and South Africa. The initial investigation revealed that he was involved in the killing of Mehmood, who was killed along with his friend in North Nazimabad on September 17, 2012. The suspect also admitted his involvement in extortion cases and transportation of illegal weapons.

The Rangers on February 10 arrested 15 suspects, including gangsters and extortionists, during targeted operations across Karachi, the provincial capital of Sindh, reports The News. A spokesperson for the Rangers said troops of the paramilitary force conducted targeted raids in Saeedabad and Baghdadi Colony areas and arrested two suspects identified as Rashid Rasheedalias Moosa and Jugaan Lal alias Kana.The arrested men were allegedly associated with the Lyari gang war and involved in cases of targeted killings, extortion and drug peddling. During a raid in the Sohrab Goth area, the Rangers arrested a suspect, Mohammad Arsalan alias Akhrot. The Sindh Rangers on March 15, arrested five suspects, including Lyari gangsters, during raids in different parts of Karachi, the provincial capital of Sindh, reports The News. According to a Rangers spokesman, three persons, Abdul Aziz, Majid and Sohail alias Akram alias Sunny were arrested in Lyari and Garden. They were earlier associated with the Ghaffar Zikri gang, but now they were working with the Shiraz Zikri gang. A hand grenade, a detonator, a Kalashnikov, a 9mm pistol, bullets, Avon launcher with four Avon bombs were recovered from the suspects. The suspects were active in Kharadar, Ali Muhammad Lane, Lea Market, Kalri, Bihar Colony and other areas of Lyari. Moreover, Adeel Ali Soomro and Furqan Shah were apprehended in the Sir Syed area for being involved in attempt to murder and dacoity cases. Police and Security Forces (SFs) personnel killed five Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants holed up in a house in E-sector of Phase-VII in Hayatabad area of Peshawar, the provincial capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on April 16 after a fierce gun battle lasting over 17 hours, reports Dawn. One Police officer also killed during the gun battle. The TTP in an email message issued claimed that six of its members were involved in the gunfight with law enforcement personnel. The gun battle started at 7.30pm on April 15-evening as Police tried to enter the house in E-sector during an intelligence-based operation (IBO). Assistant Sub-Inspector Qamar Alam lost his life while trying to enter the house. A terrorist was also killed during an initial exchange of fire that triggered a fierce gunfight which continued till the killing of the four remaining terrorists around April 16-noon. Two SFs personnel and two civilians, including a woman, were injured during the gunfight. The Bomb Disposal Squad (BDUS) during the clearance found an explosives-rigged bike on the ground floor, which was connected with explosive materials planted in the basement of the house. The BDU destroyed the bike with an explosive charge, which brought down the two-storey house. “The house and bike were rigged with about 60kg explosives, which had been destroyed with a 250-gram explosive charge,” BDU chief Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Shafqat Malik said.

According to officials, investigators have pieced together CCTV footage from across the city to determine the movement of the attacker. A suspected militant arrested along with arms and ammunition from the New Barq Goods Transport Adda (depot) in the limits of Shergarh Police Station in Mardan District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on May 30, reports The News. The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) killed three militants during an intelligence-based operation conducted on Jalalpur Jattan Road in Gujrat town of (Gujrat District) Punjab on July 1, reports The News. The CTD raided the place and challenged the terrorists to surrender. The terrorists instead started firing on the CTD officers. The CTD officers took precautionary measures and a shootout ensued. After the firing stopped, three terrorists were found dead. Other three terrorists escaped taking benefit of darkness. The dead terrorists were identified as Tayyab Jamil alias Baba Ji, Bilal alias Abdul Rahim and Nadir alias Abdullah. They were most wanted terrorists of Red Book. They had committed multiple acts of terrorism, including attack on PAF bus in Sargodha, Police Training School Sargodha, Police Post Qudratabad, Patrolling Post Darra Tang, Police Post Kundian killing dozens of citizens. Five Balochistan Republican Army (BRA) militants were arrested by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) after a failed bid to carry out a bomb attack on a train in Giamal area of Rajanpur District in Punjab on July 4, reports Dawn. A bomb disposal squad (BDS) had earlier in the day expertly defused explosives affixed to railway tracks. According to BDS official Ghulam Abbas, "the bomb weighed 5kg and was attached to the railway tracks along with a remote-controlled device." The target appeared to be the Karachi-bound Khushal Khan Khattak Express, which had left from Peshawar and was due to pass by in a few hours. It was temporarily halted at the Dera Ghazi Khan station after Police sealed off the area and began a search operation. All the arrested militants belong to the Baggi Commander Group of BRA. Recoveries from them include two pistols, 30 bore; one planted IED, approximately six kilogrammes; safety fuse; primer cord; detonator; and funds (cash money) for terrorism financing.

On a tip-off, heavy contingent of Police raided a marble factory near Shabqadar area. During search of factory, 20 kilogrammes explosives, 50 safety fuses and 1600 explosive sticks were recovered but no arrest could be made. The Police sealed the factory, seized the recovered explosives and ammunition. Four militants were killed during a search operation carried out by Security Forces (SFs) in Kulachi tehsil (revenue unit) of Dera Ismail Khan District Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on August 16, reports Daily Times. According to a statement issued by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), the operation was launched on a tip-off about the presence of militants in the forests near Bacha Abad and its suburbs in the Kulachi tehsil. SFs came under attack from various locations as they combed the forests for the militants. However, the SF personnel remained safe. At least four militants were killed in the counterattack. Two of them were identified as Javed Malana and Abdur Rehman Ustrana. They were wanted in eight different acts of terrorism, including attacks on the SFs and a Police mobile in Parova area.

Station House Officer (SHO), Loralai, Abdul Rehman said personnel of the Police's Eagle Squad stopped two suspects riding a motorcycle near the Loralai commissioner's office. The PCG during search of a suspected vehicle near Badok Frontier Crops (FC) check post in Pasni tehsil (revenue unit) of Gwadar District recovered 12-kilogram heroin and 10-kilogram high quality hashish and arrested two drugs pusher on board. In another action in Windar tehsil of Lasbela District, the PCG recovered 3,955-kilogram toxic betel nut hidden in orchard and two suspects were held. A spokesman of PCG said that the recovered drugs value 160 million rupees in international market and the detainees were being interrogated.

Security Forces (SFs) foiled a terror attack bid on October 18, killing one would-be suicide bomber during an exchange of fire, while another bomber blew himself up during a search operation in the Killi Kawar area near the University of Loralai on the outskirts of Loralai town (Loralai District) of Balochistan, reports Dawn. Two soldiers of the Frontier Corps — Abdul Latif and Mohammad Sharif — were also injured in the incident. Official sources said that the FC personnel posted at a check-post in the Killi Kawar area signalled two men riding a motorcycle to stop. But instead of stopping, they opened fire on the SFs. The suspects tried to escape and took shelter near a seasonal river. The SFs cordoned off the area and launched a search operation. During the ensuing encounter, one would-be suicide bomber was killed while another detonated the explosives attached to his jacket. Arms and ammunition, including grenades, AK-47 assault rifles and rounds, were recovered from the possession of the slain militants.

A team of the CTD arrested two suspected militants allegedly linked with Islamic State on Jattowala Road in Bahawalnagar District. According to a CTD spokesman, Haseeb Javed and Saeed Akbar planned to attack sensitive installations. Explosives and detonators were recovered from them. Further, during a search operation near Kotli Bhutta village of Sialkot District, one Ziarat, having link with Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) arrested. Officials said the suspect was planning attack on an agency and explosive material and hate literature were recovered from him.
