Police on April 19 arrested a Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militant from Malir town area of Karachi, the provincial capital of Sindh, reports Samaa TV. The Police on April 20 arrested one Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) militant during a raid on his hideout in Saeedabad area near Northern Bypass of Karachi, the provincial capital of Sindh, reports Dawn. In a statement, the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) said that a key BLA cadre, Asif Brohi alias Don, was arrested along with an AK-47 assault rifle. “Asif Brohi alias Abdullah is not only the facilitator of several terrorist attacks but also a key man of the BLA,” said the CTD statement. “Investigators were closely monitoring the suspect and finally found his connection with several terrorist activities. Between 2011 and 2019, he killed six people in different Balochistan districts. He executed these jobs on the directives of BLA commander Shafiq ur Rehman Mengal. Apart from killing different individuals, he was actively involved in collecting extortion to raise funds for the banned outfit.” The statement carried details of the suspect’s activities since 2012 saying he collected extortion amounting to PKR 56.7 million from different businessmen and traders of Balochistan and in couple of instances he had even kidnapped his targets to get the ransom.

The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) of Sindh Police on April 26 arrested a Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militant, Nazeerullah, during a raid in Manghopir area of Karachi, reports ARY News. Explosive material and an unlicensed pistol were recovered from his possession. According to the SIU CIA, Nazeerullah disclosed during the interrogation that his father Abdullah Khan had a close affiliation with TTP commander Ehsanullah Ehsan and he joined the outfit along with another terrorist Dawa Jaan. He was motivated to carry bomb attacks against the Security Forces and provided a motorcycle to be used in the attack.

The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) on April 5 arrested five militants from Bhatta Chowk (roundabout) in Lahore, the provincial capital of Punjab, for their involvement in collecting funds for terror activities, reports ARY News. A spokesman for the CTD said that “they belonged to Daesh and hate material was recovered from their possession”. The arrested militants were identified as Nazimullah, Ziaur Rehman, Ishtiaq, Abdul Rehman and Malik Kashif. The CTD spokesman said that the militants were spreading hate material among the public when they were apprehended. “They were also collecting funds in the name of Daesh,” he said adding that 40 books based on hate material and funds and receipts of the terror organization were also recovered from their possession.

One Army soldier, identified as Naik Zia ud Din, and one militant were killed during an exchange of fire with militants in Sararogha area of South Waziristan District in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on August 12, reports Dawn. The Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) statement said that in the night a military post in Sararogha detected the suspicious movement of three to four suspected militants. "A quick reaction force was immediately dispatched to challenge the suspected terrorists; however, the troops were fired upon. Due to effective response, one terrorist was killed and another was apprehended in [an] injured condition," the statement said. "The apprehended terrorist later revealed that they planned to conduct a fire raid on a military post," the ISPR added.

The Police on August 12 arrested two Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants, identified as Ameer Zada and Taj Wali, from Ibrahim Hyderi Colony of Karachi, the provincial capital of Sindh, reports Samaa TV. A cache of weapons and explosives, including detonators, were recovered from the possession of arrested militants. They were trained in Afghanistan, claimed Police. They confessed to have carried out attacks on NATO forces. Ameer Zada joined the group back in 2001 and is a suspect in ransom and terrorism cases. His partners Jihad Yar, Ameer Janan, Mullah Usman also known as Umme Salaama, Mir Rehman alias Haji and Fazal Rehman aka Abu Khalid have already been killed. Wali became part of the faction on local commander Qari Qayyum’s instigation back in 2009-10. He is suspected of being involved in terrorism cases in Afghanistan and South Waziristan District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The militants were trying to extort money from businesses and educational institutes, a senior CTD official said. One of the arrested militants is a former TTP ‘commander’ from Swat District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. A CTD spokesperson said the militants sent letters to businessmen and owners of educational institutes, demanding large sums of money. They demanded a total of PKR 300 million in ten letters written to different people, the spokesperson added.
