Four militants belonging to Al Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) were arrested in a joint operation by Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and the Special Investigation Unit Police in Gulistan-e-Johar area of Karachi, the provincial capital of Sindh, on April 19, reports The Express Tribune.The militants were identified as Muhammad Umar, Muhammad Bilal alias Fida, Muhammad Waseem and Muhammad Amir. Detonators, remote controls, improvised explosive device receivers, hand grenades, Kalashnikovs and other weapons were recovered based on their revelations.According to law enforcement agencies, the militants had recently arrived in Karachi after receiving training in Afghanistan. They had reportedly also carried out reconnaissance of the city court, police training centre, intelligence agency offices and the Pakistan Stock Exchange.The militants revealed during initial interrogation that they were led by Muhammad Hanif alias Zarrar alias Ayub, who is currently in Afghanistan.They reportedly claimed that their other accomplices were also hiding in Karachi and they had facilitated them with money, conveyance and shelter.

Nine militants and two soldiers killed while five other soldiers sustained injuries during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Khaisura and Dossali areas of North Waziristan District in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on April 26, reports Daily Times. According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Security Forces (SFs) conducted an IBO on credible information about the presence of terrorists in Khaisura and Dossali areas. ISPR further said that during the exchange of fire, nine militants were killed, and one arrested, however, two soldiers embraced martyrdom and at least five soldiers sustained injuries. A cache of arms and ammunitions were recovered during the search of the area.

The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) prevented a suicide attack on the office of a law enforcement agency in Lahore, the provincial capital of Punjab, by attesting a Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militant in the morning of August 17, reports Samaa TV. According to the CTD’s spokesperson, “the CTD got information from a credible source about a terrorist planning a suicide bomb attack. He was waiting for another terrorist near the Lahore Railway Station.” CTD personnel raided the place and arrested the suspect identified as Liaqat Khan. “A suicide jacket, two hand grenades, a 30-bore pistol and six bullets were recovered from his possession,” the spokesperson revealed. Police, on December 14, claimed to have foiled a terrorist attack on Islamabad Stock Exchange, the latest target of the cell said to be responsible for multiple bombings in the garrison city of Rawalpindi city of Punjab, reports The Express Tribune. Punjab Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) claimed the arrest of three alleged militants from Adyala-Kharakan Road, involved in four bomb blasts in Rawalpindi, the latest being the bombing in the Pir Wadhai area of the city earlier this month. The CTD, in a statement, said, the law enforcers raided the location and managed to arrest the alleged militants along with explosives, detonators, cell phones and other items in their possession. During the investigation, the militants accepted responsibility for the four bombings in Rawalpindi - in January, March, June and December of 2020 - that killed four civilians and injured more than 30. The statement further added that the militants said they were motivated by the proscribed Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) ideally, however, now they are working for masterminds based in Afghanistan. They further disclosed, according to the CTD statement, that their group leader was receiving funds from Afghanistan for carrying out these terrorist activities, and revealed that they had planned their next attack, with the Islamabad Stock Exchange chosen as a target.

The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) Operation-II Police claimed to have arrested a target killer, affiliated with the London faction of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM-London), and to have found a TT pistol loaded magazine in his possession during an operation near Old Sabzi Mandi on University Road in Karachi, the provincial capital of Sindh, on December 16, reports The Express Tribune. CTD Inspector Syed Sarfaraz said, the arrested man, identified as Adnan Marwari alias AD Danish, had been the in-charge of the MQM-London- affiliated dead squad in Lyari, Sector-29. Security Forces (SFs) arrested a top ‘commander’ and four others of the proscribed Lashkar-e-Islam (LeI) in a raid in Peshawar, the provincial capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on December 18, reports The Express Tribune. The SFs and Police raided a home located in an area under the Bara Police Station in Sipah, arresting Zakir Afridi and his four associates, whose identities are yet to be ascertained. The militants had planned a major terror attack in Peshawar on December 25. As per the SFs, three suicide jackets and six Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) were recovered from the possession of the militants. Meanwhile, eight facilitators of the militants were also arrested in a raid conducted in Badaber on the details shared by them. They were shifted to a secret location for further investigation, Police said. The identities of the eight facilitators are yet to be established.

Hours after being arrested from Peshawar on January 27, Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement (PTM) chief Manzoor Pashteen was sent to Central Jail on a 14-day judicial remand by a magistrate, reports Daily Times. Police said a case was registered against the PTM chief at the City Police Station in Dera Ismail Khan on January 18 under sections 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation), 153-A (promoting enmity between different groups), 120-B (punishment of criminal conspiracy), 124 (sedition), and 123-A (condemning the creation of the country and advocating the abolishment of its sovereignty) of the Pakistan Penal Code. According to the FIR, Pashteen and other PTM leaders had attended a gathering on January 18 in Dera Ismail Khan where the PTM chief had allegedly said that the 1973 constitution violates basic human rights. The FIR added that Pashteen had also made derogatory remarks about the State of Pakistan. Stanczak had been abducted from Attock, near Rawalpindi, in September 2008 and a case was registered with Basal Police Station against the unidentified kidnappers. The CTD Punjab and the ISI made the arrest when they obtained intelligence reports about the arrival of duo in Rawalpindi to commit a terrorist act. The raiding teams recovered explosives from their possession. After this breakthrough, the case of kidnapping and subsequent murder of Piotr for investigation has been re-opened some 12 years after its registration. A senior official privy to the development said the terrorists had held Piotr Stanczak captive for more than four months. He said a seven-minute horrific video was delivered to reporters in February 2009 that showed execution of the Polish engineer by unknown militants. “During interrogation, Kaleemullah confessed that he had taken part in beheading of Piotr Stanczak while Farid Khan said he had kept him in his custody in Darra Adam Khel for several days [before beheading]”, an official stated.

According to CTD official Shahid Karim, the arrested terrorist is involved in several high-profile cases including killing of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Bahauddin in 2014, had masterminded the suicide attack on Inspector Shafiq Tanoli and carried out bomb blast in Imambargah Azakhana Kausar in 2013. With his training in Afghanistan, the accused is an expert in making pressure bombs, tennis ball bombs and motorcycle bombs, said the CTD official. Alam and his three other accomplices are included in the CTD’s Red Book and were involved in grenade attack on Mominabad Police Station. The nabbed terrorist is also accused of murdering two Policemen during Metroville incident in 2014 and is also charged for attacking his wife's uncle, the official notified. The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) on November 19 claimed that four members of the Sindhudesh Revolutionary Army (SRA) involved in several militant attacks including on Rangers were arrested from Mirpur Khas District of Sindh, reports The Balochistan Post. The CTD Sindh claimed in a press release saying that four militants belonging to SRA were responsible for the recent grenade and cracker bomb blasts on Rangers’ mobiles and check posts across Sindh. They were arrested with the help of Federal Intelligence Agency and a case was registered after recovering hand grenades and pistols, CTD said. The arrested militants are identified as, Sarang alias Sohail Mirani son of Zulfiqar Mirani, Bashir Ahmed Shar son of Abdul Razzaq, Anis Ahmed son of Haji Kamil, Khawand Bakhsh alias Saleem Sindhi son of Nazir Ahmed.

A 33-year-old Hindu man was arrested for allegedly committing blasphemy in Bhimpura area under Napier Police Station of Karachi, the provincial capital of Sindh, on November 2, reports Samaa TV. Police registered a case under Section 295-A of the Pakistan Penal Code. Section 295-A of the PPC relates to “deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs”, the punishment for which may be a fine or imprisonment for a period of up to 10 years or both. The case was registered by a 24-year-old man identified as Aqib. According to a resident of the area, hundreds of people surrounded a Hindu temple in Bhimpura in the night of November 1 after some young men accused unidentified men of committing blasphemy. The resident, who requested anonymity, said some people had managed to enter the temple and damaged statues placed within. He added that at least two other people were also picked up from the area.

The Sindh Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) said that three of the militants belonged to the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) while another hailed from Baloch Liberation Army (BLA). “They travelled from Afghanistan to Balochistan and then arrived in Karachi,” the CTD said adding that three of the TTP militants were staying at a hotel in Banaras while the fourth accomplice joined them after bringing explosive material for them.
