Three Army soldiers and two terrorists were killed in an exchange of fire with militants in North Waziristan District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on January 14, reports Dawn. Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement that the Security Forces (SFs) carried out two separate intelligence-based operations (IBOs) on terrorist hideouts in North Waziristan. Two terrorists "including an IED (improvised explosive device) expert" were killed in the raids. During an exchange of fire with the militants, three soldiers were killed. They were identified as Sepoy Azaib Ahmed, resident of Karak District; Sepoy Zia Ul Islam, resident of Bannu District; and Lance Naik Abbas Khan, resident of Orakzai District.

Three militants were killed during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) near the Pak-Afghan border in Lower Dir District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on February 1, reports ARY News. Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said Security Forces conducted an IBO to thwart an infiltration attempt by militants close to the Pak-Afghan border. During an exchange of fire, three militants, identified as Abid, Yusuf Khan and Abdul Sattar, were killed. A cache of arms, ammunition, and hand grenades were recovered from their possession of the slain militants. These militants remained involved in several target killing incidents at Swat District in 2019.

A suicide bomber was killed by self-detonating his suicide vest to evade arrest during a search operation by Police near Dera Tank road area of Dera Ismail Khan District in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on February 17, reports Samaa TV. According to the officials, they received information about an attack in the area after which they cordoned it off. When the Police reached the site, a terrorist clad in a suicide bomb jacket opened fire at them. “When we fired at him in response, the suspect got injured and then detonated the bomb,” a Police officer said. The spokesperson of the bomb disposal squad said that the militant’s jacket was loaded with five kilogrammes of explosives. “It had seven to eight kilogrammes of ball bearings and phosphorous.”

A statement issued by the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said, terrorist ‘commander’ Rehmat alias Khalid was an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) expert and remained involved in different militant activities against SFs, extortion, abduction for ransom and target killing since 2009 in Malik Khel area.The statement added, "During the search operation, security forces recovered huge cache of weapons." The Security Forces (SFs) killed a Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militant, who was involved in the murder of more than 50 security personnel since 2007, in South Waziristan District in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on February 26, reports Daily Times. According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), SFs carried out an intelligence-based operation (IBO) on a terrorist hideout in Sharmangi, Tiarza area of South Waziristan upon receiving a confirmation related to the presence of militants there. As per the statement, the TTP ‘commander’ – identified as Nooristan alias Hasan Baba – was gunned down during an intense exchange of fire. “The most sought and wanted terrorist was [an] IED expert and master trainer,” the press release said further. Nooristan joined the TTP Baitullah Mehsud group in 2007 and has been involved in several terrorist attacks. He, along with other militants, carried out an attack on a check post in Manra Shawal Dargai in 2008, which resulted in the martyrdom of three Frontier Corps (FC) personnel.

Among the eight militants, the three militants‘commanders’ killed during the exchange of fire were Abdul Aneer alias Adil (TTP Toofan group), Junaid alias Jamid (TTP Tariq group) and Khaliq Shadeen alias Rehan (TTP Sadiq Noor group), the ISPR said.The identity of the rest five are yet to be ascertained. According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), during an intense exchange of fire, militant ‘commander’ Abdul Adam Zeb alias Dung, who belonged to the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan’s Bismillah group, and militant ‘commanders’ Molvi Mehboob alias Molvi and Mir Salam alias Anas, who were associated with the TTP Sajna group, were killed. Abdul Adam Zeb had been involved in more than 20 terrorist activities against SFs, law enforcement agencies and local population since 2014. He was involved in IED attacks, firing, attacks on government buildings, targeted killings, kidnapping for ransom, extortion and recruiting and organising terrorists in Mohammad Khel, Boya and Data Khel areas of North Waziristan and Zoida area of South Waziristan. Three militants were killed during a joint operation by Security Forces (SFs) in the Faqirabad Police Station of Peshawar, the provincial capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on December 20, reports Daily Times. The SFs relayed militants, on seeing the personnel, opened indiscriminate fire on them and in the ensuing shootout, three militants were killed. The killed militants were involved in heinous crimes, including the targeted killing of SFs and other acts of terrorism, the Police said. One of the militants was identified as Suleman, who hailed from Bajaur while the identity of the rest is yet to be ascertained. Arms and ammunition were seized from their possession.

Four Army soldiers were killed in an exchange of fire with terrorists during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in the Mir Ali area of North Waziristan District in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on December 31, reports Dawn. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Security Forces (SFs) conducted an IBO on the reported presence of terrorists in the area. During the raid, an intense exchange of fire ensued between the terrorists and the troops, as a result of which four soldiers were killed. The dead soldiers were identified as Havaldar Munawar, Sepoy Zaka Ullah, Sepoy Farhan and Sepoy Sheraz.
