Two sympathisers of Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), identified as Madakam Kesa and Karatam Srinu,were arrested from R. Kothagudem village at Cherla Mandal(administrative sub-division) in Bhadradri Kothagudem District of Telangana on January 4, reports United News of India. Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) claimed to have busted a fake Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) module of extortionists in Sopore in Baramulla District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in India on January 17, reports Daily Excelsior. The Police received a complaint from a person that he had received a letter on the letter pad of LeT, demanding INR 50,000 for the outfit since it was in a dire need of funds for carrying out various activities.During the course of investigation, it came to fore that three persons identified as Ishfaq Ahmad Reshi, a driver, Mumtaz Ahmad War, an Imam of a mosque, and Abdul Qayoom Ganie, a mason, all residents of Warpora mastered a plan to collect money from the complainant. The Police said that all three accused were arrested and upon interrogation, the three revealed how they were blackmailing the general public and prominent businessmen of the area by sending letters on the fake letter pad of LeT.During their further questioning they confessed that their area of operation was not confined to Warpora and they have extorted money from residents of main town Sopore also.

Two imposters of People’s Liberation Front of India (PLFI), a splinter group of Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), identified as – Balram Munda and Babulal Urao, were arrested by Police for putting up PLFI banners in Lohardaga District of Jharkhand on January 21, reports The New Indian Express. On the night of January 12, the duo had put up banners of the PLFI in three separate places under Lohardaga Police Station limits to threaten businessmen and contractors of the area and to collect money from them.

The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) of Kerala Police arrested a Coimbatore-based dentist, identified as D. Dinesh (32), for allegedly having links with the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) at Edayarpalayam on Thadagam Road in Coimbatore District of Tamil Nadu on February 4, reports The Times of India. The Edakkara Police in Kerala’s Malappuram District registered an FIR in 2017 about a meeting of CPI-Maoist held at Nilambur forest in 2015 and have been investigating the case to trace the participants. On December 8, 2020, the ATS arrested Rajan Chittilappilly, a suspected Maoist and a participant of the meeting. Based on his inputs, the ATS learned that Dinesh also took part in the meeting and possessed arms, following which he was arrested subsequently.

Police arrested three Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) sympathisers identified as – S. Selvaraj, A. Balan and K. Srinivasan, from Salem District of Tamil Nadu on February 7, reports The Hindu. The were arrested on charges of raising anti-government slogans during the funeral of a Maoist leader named Manivasakam at Ramamoorthi Nagar village near Omalur in October 2019. They also allegedly vowed to avenge Manivasakam’s death during the funeral. Based on a complaint from the Village Administrative Officer of KN Pudur, the Thivettipatti Police registered a case. Six persons have already been arrested in this connection.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested a harbourer and logistics provider of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM) in KishtwarDistrict of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in India on February 18, reports Daily Excelsior.The militant arrested by NIA has been identified as Taraq Hussain Giri son of Ghulam Hassan Giri, a resident of Pachhal Kishtwar, who was involved in snatching of service rifle from PSO of former District Magistrate Kishtwar.Taraq Hussain was also wanted in providing logistic support to HM militants Osama bin Javed and Haroon Abba Wani in March 2019. The incident of weapon snatching was among four major terror acts committed by the HM from November 2018 to September 2019 in Kishtwar.

They were identified as – PaddamMunnialiasTellamMunni, Indravati Area Committee Member (Dandakaranya) of Savanar village and Jarpula Bansi, a contractor of Avupalli of Bijapur District in Chhattisgarh. Munni joined the CPI-Maoists in 2011 and worked as a ‘militia member’ till 2014 of Maddedu Area Committee. In 2015, she was shifted to Krantikari Mahila Sangham (KMS) of Indravati Area Committee and in 2018 and later she was promoted as an area committee member (ACM). Bansi, who was working as a courier to Maddedu Area Maoist party LGS (Local Guerilla Squad) commander Nagesh, used to supply groceries and explosives to Maoists. Fifty gelatin sticks and 50 electric detonators were recovered from their possession.

Bhadrachalam Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Vineeth G, said Dummugudem Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel who were engaged in vehicle inspection at Reguballi village of Dummugudem Mandal spotted two persons moving suspiciously, took them into custody and recovered explosive material from them. Based on the information they provided, Police arrested six others at Cherla bus stand. The arrested persons were labourers working at Sita Rama Lift Irrigation project and Polavaram Project. They stole the explosive material to supply them to the Maoists on the orders of Maoist ‘Gundala Area Committee’ in-charge Bhadru alias Papanna. Gaddam Madhukar and a courier were arrested during a vehicle-check by Police. Madhukar was suffering from Covid-19, had come to Warangal for the treatment with the help of the courier, a minor. Several cases against him were pending in the Police Stations of Bastar Division. Madhukar who hails from Kumaram Bheem Asifabad District in Telangana had joined the Sirpur Dalam (armed squad) of the then People’s War Group (PWG)) in 1999. The Naxal [Left Wing Extremism (LWE)] outfit later shifted him to DKSZC and since then, he was involved in several offences including killing of Police personnel and snatching away their weapons. The CPI-Maoist courier went to Venkatapuram forest area in a car and was bringing Madhukar to Hanamkonda for admission in a hospital. When Police searched the vehicle at the check post, Madhukar was found hiding in the car’s boot. Police arrested both of them and seized INR 88,000 cash. Madhukar was later admitted to a hospital for treatment, said Warangal’s Commissioner of Police, Tarun Joshi. Madhukar informed to Police that a large number of senior Maoist cadres are suffering with COVID-19. But the CPI-Maoist is not allowing them to go outside for better treatment. The cadres in exceptional cases are allowed to go outside for getting better treatment, only after their health condition turns worse. At least ten civilians including two women were injured in a grenade explosion, which was lobbed by militants towards 40 Battalion of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) near Hanuman Mandir at Hari Singh High Street area of Srinagar District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) on August 10, reports Daily Excelsior. The militants lobbed a grenade towards Bunker of SSB, which however missed the target and instead exploded on road resulting in minor injuries to civilians. They were shifted to Shri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) hospital for treatment. Following the grenade attack, all the entry and exit points in and around Lal Chowk area in Srinagar were sealed and all the checkpoints across the Srinagar city were activated. During the intensive checking, Police arrested an individual identified as Adil Farooq Bhat, a journalist and recovered two grenades from his bag near Makkah Market Partap Park in Srinagar District on August 10. Earlier Adil Farooq was arrested in February, 2019 for his involvement in providing logistics as well as other support to the active terrorists, said Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Vijay Kumar.

The accused have been identified as Boda Venkatesh (23), Saikuri Prasad (22), and Kondeti Veerababu (25). While Boda and Saikuri hail from Telangana, Kondeti is from the East Godavari Agency. The trio were operating in Yetapaka Mandal (administrative sub-division), and their modus operandi included instilling fear and extorting money from traders. Posing as Maoists, they used to put up threat pamphlets at traders' premises. Unable to endure harassment, traders approached Police and sought protection. Police recovered two CPI-Maoist party letterheads, a motorcycle, three cell phones, and cash of INR 2,280 from their possession. According to Pramod Singh Kushwah, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Special Cell, the accused Ram Krishna Singh was arrested from Nizamuddin area in Delhi on September 1. “Post Covid this year, Singh revived his chain of gangsters and criminals and since June, he has sold over 300 cartridges and 10 pistols to criminals of Delhi/ National Capital region (NCR). The Telangana Police had received information that Kota Srinivas, who is also the ‘state president’ of Telangana Vidyarthi Sangam (TVS), has links with the Maoists. Four Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) imposters were arrested on the charge of extortion, at Eturnagaram in Mulugu District of Telangana on October 4, reports The New Indian Express. The Eturnagaram Police also seized INR 1.35 million in cash, one fake pistol, an MI television, a mixer grinder, a Karizma bike and four mobile phones from their possession. According to sources, the Police also found four handwritten letters that the gang had forged under the name of Maoist leader Damodar, which were to be distributed among gullible tribals and bigshots. Mulugu Superintendent of Police (SP), Sangram Singh G Patil stated that the personnel launched an investigation to bust the four-member gang based on a complaint filed by a businessman belonging to Eturnagaram. The complainant said that some persons, who introduced themselves as activists of the party, were threatening him demanding INR 2 million.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on November 22 detained a human rights activist, Khurram Parvez, during a raid on his Sonawar residence in Srinagar in connection with a terror funding case, reports Greater Kashmir. Khurram Parvez is the coordinator of the J&K Coalition of Civil Society. On October 28, 2020, the NIA had searched 10 locations, including that of Parvez, in J&K and one in Bangalore (Karnataka) in a case pertaining to certain so-called NGOs and trusts raising funds in India and abroad in the name of charitable activities and then using those funds for carrying out secessionist and separatist activities in J&K. The case was registered on October 8, 2020 under sections of the IPC and the UAPA on receiving "credible information that certain NGOs and trusts are collecting funds domestically and abroad through so-called donations and business contributions" and then using them to fund terror activities in J&K, the NIA said.

Around 20 pamphlets relating to the ensuing CPI-Maoist’s 21st annual ‘People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) week’, slated to be observed by the outlawed organisation from December 2 to 8, and 10 rice bags, each weighing 30 kilograms, were recovered from them, Police said. The arrested Maoist sympathisers, whose identities are yet to be ascertained, hail from two remote villages in Usoor Block in Bijapur District. Police sources said the arrested Maoist sympathisers were carrying the rice bags to hand them over to the Maoists as per the instructions of the Maoist leaders based in the forests in Usoor Block of Chhattisgarh.

A Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) sympathizer who had many pending cases against him and who was attending to his ailing father in Vellore Christian Medical College (CMC) Hospital was arrested by Jharkhand Police in Vellore District of Tamil Nadu on December 17, reports dtnext.in. According to the Jharkhand Police the sympathizer identified as Virendra Kumar Yadav (34) was attending on his father Ramprasad Yadav (54) who was admitted to CMC hospital on December 11. Based on information, a five-member Police team from Jharkhand lead by Inspector Babulal landed in Vellore on December 17 and arrested Virendra Kumar from CMC Hospital. As the next train to Jharkhand from Katpadi was only on December 18 he was taken for safe custody to the Vellore north Police Station near the hospital.

On the basis of secret information, the Police raided, in which 50 kilograms of ammonium nitrate explosive was recovered. According to the information, this explosive was going to be delivered to the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist).
