Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) claimed to have busted yet another terror module with the arrest of a suspected militant in Reasi District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in India on January 1, reports Daily Excelsior. With the arrest of the militant, a total of five different modules of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and its offshoot The Resistance Force (TRF) have been unearthed in the past two weeks, the JKP said.Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mukesh Singh, said, “On the basis of reliable information a person identified as Mohammad Yousaf, 20, son of Ghulam Haider of Deval in Mahore Tehsil[revenue unit] of Reasi district was apprehended [arrested] by a team of police station Mahore”.During sustained questioning he divulged that he had hidden some cache of arms and ammunition in a hideout at village lower Angrala of in Mahore, the officer added.“A joint search operation of Jammu Kashmir Police and army was launched in the area and five live grenades and a 9 mm pistol along with ammunition were recovered from the hideout,” IGP, Singh, said.

Security Forces (SFs) recovered a cache of arms and ammunition near the Line of Control (LoC) in Mendhar tehsil(revenue unit) in Poonch District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in India on January 3, reports Daily Excelsior. This was the third round of recovery of arms and ammunition in the District following the busting of a three-member module of Jammu and Kashmir Ghaznavi Force (JKGF).Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Poonch, Ramesh Angral said, the fresh recovery has been made during a search and cordon operation from Dabbi village along the LoC in Balakote sector of Mendhar.The recovery includes one pistol, three magazines, 35 bullets and five hand grenades, he said.Three militant associates were arrested in Balakote area on December 27 and six hand grenades were recovered from them. Earlier, SATP had reported, Poonch Police and Army foiled a major plot by the militants to trigger communal tension in Poonch District of J&K in India on December 27, with arrest of three militants of newly floated JK Ghaznavi Force in Mendhar area who were planning to target religious places of minorities starting with famous temple of Ari.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on January 7, conducted searches at six locations – five in Jammu District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) and one in Tarn Taran District of Punjab in connection with the investigation of a narco-terror module case (RC 05/2020/ NIA/JMU) related to seizure of about 61 kilograms of heroin along with arms and ammunitions on September 20, 2020 at International Border (IB) at Arnia in Jammu District, says NIA. The officials recovered digital devices and other incriminating documents having financial details and accounts numbers during these searches. Originally registered at Arnia Police Station (Jammu), the case was re-registered by NIA on November 26, 2020 and taken up for investigation.The searches were conducted at the residences of six accused persons namely – Jasraj Singh, Sham Lal, Bishan Dass, Ajeet Kumar, Gurbaksh Singh and Gurpartap Singh. These accused persons were arrested for hatching a criminal conspiracy for carrying out anti-national and unlawful activities, and to help the terrorist organisations by collecting funds and channelizing the proceeds of drugs for furthering the activities of such terrorist organisations like Babbar Khalsa International (BKI). Gurpratap Singh, r/o Tarn Taran District is the kingpin of this module. In the second week of September 2020, Gurpratap Singh had received 10 kilograms of heroin from Pakistan based handlers through his associates. The consignment in the case was also intended to be received by Gurpratap Singh to fund the activities of BKI in Punjab.

Security Forces (SFs) neutralized a Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) camp following an exchange of fire near Lengerimunda village at Chakapad area in Kandhamal District of Odisha on January 7, reports The New Indian Express. An anti-Maoist operation was launched by a joint team of Special Operation Group (SOG) and District Volunteer Force (DVF) near the said village. While combing operation was underway, the rebels resorted to heavy firing and hurled grenades.The SFs retaliated following which the Maoists escaped taking advantage of the dense forest cover. While no casualty was reported from either side in the incident, the SFs recovered a detonator, two hand grenades, country-made guns, two magazines, haversacks, black uniforms, medicines, clothes and utensils from the camp.

Awantipora Police busted a hideout of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) outfit and arrested one Over Ground Worker (OGW) of militants at Chandhara area in Pampore town in Pulwama District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in India on January 10, reports Daily Excelsior. The arrested OGW has been identified as Adil Ahmad Shah son of Mohammad Azad Shah, a resident of Chandhara Pampore. During search, one large hideout was found in the cowshed of the house with small opening covered by a lid and a tunnel of about 6ft leading to the hideout. Incriminating material of proscribed outfit LeT and 26 rounds of AK-47 were recovered from the hideout, a Police statement said.

Official sources said that following specific information about presence of militants, a joint CASO was launched by Special Operations Group (SOG) of J&K Police, Army and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) at Bon Makhama village in Beerwah in Budgam. Circle Inspector (CI) B. Acting on a specific input, Budgam Police, 53 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) of Army and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) arrested three militants from Budgam during searches. Those arrested have been identified as two former militants Mohammad Yousuf Dar alias Janbaz Kashmiri, Abdul Majeed Mir alias Majid, both residents of Chewdara Beerwah and Reyaz Ahmad Basmati, resident of Safa Kadal in Srinagar. Police said that these militant associates were affiliated with LeT and were also working for other militant outfits like Tehreek-ul-Mujahideen (TuM). Police said, two hand grenades, 25 AK-47 rounds, 4 detonators, mobile phones used to contact Pakistani handlers, threat posters and other incriminating material have also been recovered from their possession. Police said that acting on specific human and technical inputs, Bandipora police along with 13 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) of Army arrested one suspected person Abdul Majeed Khan, resident of Kralpora Bandipora, in a joint operation at Wullar Vantage Park Aragam Bandipora and recovered arms and ammunition from his possession which includes one pistol, three live hand grenades and 10 live rounds. The case relates to the arrest of Hilal Ahmad Shergojri, an Over Ground Worker (OGW) of HM and a close associate of Riyaz Ahmed Naikoo, the then ‘commander’ of HM who had come to Amritsar to collect funds to further the terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), the official said.The case was originally registered by Punjab Police on April 25, 2020, under sections of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) in connection with the seizure of INR 2.9 million which were drug proceeds, the official added.

The searches were conducted in the Korangburu hillock at Jilingkel at the instance of an arrested Maoist identified as Naina alias Birsa Munda. “During the early morning operation, 100 metres of Cordtex wire (a type of detonating cord) and high-grade explosive -- 126 Gelatin sticks, weighing about 15 kgs -- were recovered”, an NIA spokesperson said. Naina was arrested in connection with the killing of five Police personnel in an attack by CPI-Maoist in June, 2019 at Kukru Haat in Seraikela Kharsawan District. The Jharkhand Police had arrested 11 accused and filed two charge-sheets against them. The NIA re-registered the case in December 2020 and arrested five more armed cadres of CPI-Maoist. During Naina's questioning, it was revealed that explosives procured by the CPI-Maoist were hidden at the Korangburu hillock, the NIA spokesperson added.

On February 17, another person, Mere Khan, co-accomplice of Bachaya Khan was arrested in this connection. Both the accused were in touch with the international drug racketeers in Tarantaran in Punjab. According to ATS Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), OP Ujjwal, Khan’s cousin brother Badal Khan who lives in Amarkot, Pakistan with the help of international Pak smuggler Fotiya Khan, had thrown heroin packets over the fencing from Pakistan side to India’s side. Indian smuggler Meera Khan had taken those packets and given them to Haliya Khan. Haliya Khan had given the packets to Bachaya Khan for making delivery in Tarantaran district, Punjab. On March 11, the Special Cell of Delhi Police seized a mobile from the barrack of Indian Mujahideen (IM) terrorist Tehseen Akhtar alias Monu in the high-security Tihar Jail, reports indiatvnews.com. Preliminary investigation suggested that at least five terrorists other than Tehseen used the phone to operate a Telegram Channel. It is suspected that they used this phone to claim responsibility for terror acts or threats including for placing an explosives-laden SUV near Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani’s residence- Antilia in Mumbai on February 25, 2021 and blast outside Israeli embassy in the national capital. According to the Special Cell of Delhi Police, they created a Telegram channel -- Jaish-ul-Hind. A probe is underway to trace the further links. Police said that with the help of a cyber agency the location of the phone on which the Telegram channel was created, was traced. The location of the phone was traced near Tihar Jail in Delhi. The Tihar Jail authorities conducted a massive search operation inside the sub-jail number 8 on March 11. They recovered a mobile and sim card. The Telegram channel, Jaish-ul-Hind, was created on this phone. Police said that a Telegram channel was created on February 26 and the message claiming responsibility for the incident was posted on the Telegram on February 27.

Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir range, Vijay Kumar, said that one militant identified as Jahangir Ahmad Wani son of Abdul Rehman Wani, resident of Rakh Narapora Shopian, affiliated with JeM was killed. An official said that they had information about presence of JeM ‘commander’ Wilayat Lone alias Sajad Afghani and a foreign militant Abdullah. Afghani, resident of Rawalpora area of Shopian is top ‘commander’ of JeM, and has been active since 2018. The official said that both of them have fled from the security cordon. However, to track the other hiding militants, Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in the area is still going on. A 22-year-old youth Arif Ahmed Wagay son of Nazir Ahmed Wagay of Rakhnara Shopian sustained injury, as youth of the area gathered at the encounter site and tried to disrupt the operation leading to ding dong battles between stone pelters and the Security Forces (SFs). The ED had recently filed a chargesheet against the PFI under Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) alleging that PFI members attempted to ‘incite communal riots and spread terror’ after Hathras gangrape case. The PFI has strong presence in south Indian states like Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and some parts of Andhra Pradesh. Police said Kurnool town, Nandyal, Velugode, Atmakur, Adoni, Yemmiganur in Kurnool district, Nellore town, Kavali in Nellore district and Vijayawada city are the key places in AP where the PFI is active. The PFI has its AP headquarters in Kurnool town. The ED also named students’ wing of PFI the Campus Front of India (CFI). According to NIA officials, accused Jakir Sekh, a resident of Bahargoria in Purba Bardhaman District in West Bengal, was a close associate of Bangladeshi FICN supplier Munshi. During the search at his premises, NIA seized two mobile phones. The case is related to seizure of FICN of face value INR 4,01,000 from the possession of accused Golam Martuja on January 8, 2020 by the Department of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials at Siliguri. Later, NIA took over this case on March 9, 2020 and registered an FIR as RC10/2020/NIA/DLI. Earlier, the probe agency had filed chargesheet against four arrested accused persons before Siliguri Special NIA Court under sections 120 B, 489B, 489C of IPC and sections 16, 18 and 20 of UA(P)Act,1967, the NIA said, adding that the further investigation in the case to identify the transnational linkage has been continued.

During combing operations between Battigudem and Rallavagu forest area, the forces came across some persons and asked them to stop. All the persons except one escaped. Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir range, Vijay Kumar, said that two militants including the Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind (AGuH) chief Imtiyaz Shah had fled from the Shopian encounter site during the initial cordon after throwing grenades and had fled to Nowbugh area of Tral. On April 9, a cordon was launched and, in the combing operation, AGuH chief Imtiyaz along with his aide were killed in Nowbugh area in Tral in Pulwama District. Three civilians also sustained injuries during the operation. From the seven militants, the IGP said, seven AK-rifles and two pistols were recovered. The IGP identified the slain militants of Shopian as Muzamil Tantray who had joined militancy in August 2019, Adil Lone who picked up arms in July 2019, Younish Ahmed Khanday, who joined militancy in November last year and Basit Bhat who picked up gun in June last year. He said the fifth militant has not been identified yet. Similarly, the IGP said one of the slain militants of Tral gunfight was identified as Imtiyaz Shah, the chief of AGH, who was active since April 2019, and was tasked to target Amarnath ji Yatra in Tral area. The encounter had ensued after SFs which includes Police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Indian Army’s 22 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) were fired upon during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) launched in the area amid specific information about the presence of the militants. Based on information, Indian Army and J&K Police launched a joint search operation and found an underground hideout suspected to be used by militants in the past. During the searches the Police Party found some material including explosive items hidden in the hideout. SFs seized material included four detonators, one 12 V Battery, one electric wire measuring 50 meters, two pressure cookers filled IED, two pipe bombs filled with 5 kg RDX each and other explosive devices. The LeT militants were repeatedly asked to surrender but they refused and were killed in the gun battle. LeT militant Ubaid Shafi was involved in Aribagh militant attack which was carried out by LeT on the house of a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader on April 1, killing a Police Personnel identified as Rameez Ahmad. All the slain militants were linked with LeT and part of the groups involved in several crime cases including attacks on SFs and security establishments. Arms and ammunition including one AK-47 rifle, two pistols and incriminating materials have also been recovered from the site of encounter. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation and to probe their complicity in other crimes. In the second incident, SFs arrested OGW identified as Abdul Ahad Lone during a search operation with specific information at Kralpora village in Kupwara District, when he was trying to escape after seeing the SFs during a search operation. SFs recovered 12 grenades 182 Rounds of AK-47 with cash of INR 1, 69,500 from his possession, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir Zone, Vijay Kumar, said.

The case pertains to uploading incriminating posts on Facebook by Mohammad Iqbal, a Madurai resident, arrested in December, 2020. In the posts, Iqbal, an extremist, advocated the ideology of the IS terror group and Hizb-ut-Tahrir, a fundamentalist organisation, the NIA said. The posts on the Facebook page, “Thoonga Vizhigal Re¬n¬du is in Kazimar Street” was uploaded by Iqbal for de¬nigrating a particular co¬m¬mu¬nity. They were designed to incite communal disharmony amo¬ng different relig¬i¬ous groups, in a manner pre¬judicial to the maintenance of public order, he said. The searches were conducted at Kazimar Street, K Pudur, Pethaniyapuram and Mehaboob Palayam in Madurai District. CPI-Maoist cadres of Kasansoor Dalam (armed squad) were trying to organise a meeting with the villagers regarding tendu leaves contract when the Police got a hint of it. The CPI-Maoist cadres had met the villagers and were supposed to sneak out early in the dawn but their camp was stormed by the C-60 commandos from Gadchiroli and Aheri's Pranhita headquarters. The encounter had taken place during the daybreak. Police had kicked off the operation on May 20 after learning about the CPI-Maoist cadres’ presence in the forest. About 13 dead bodies of CPI-Maoist cadres being recovered and the searches are still on. Police also recovered some arms, weapons and substantial literature and other materials of daily need from the encounter site, said Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Naxal range, Sandip Patil.

SFs recovered a huge quantity of IED material that includes 50 kilograms explosives beside other material at two separate places in Tral area in Awantipora during joint search operations. Based on a specific input a joint team of Awantipora Police, Army 42 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) 180 Bn (Battalion) cordoned and searched an area near Saimoh Nallah in Tral and after digging suspected spot; the joint party of Police, Army, CRPF recovered a plastic container of approximately 50-60 litres capacity containing IED material; which is apparently—40 to 50 kilograms of gunpowder, ammonium powder. The other items recovered include two electric detonators, 4 meters of Cordex Wire, 100 meters of electric Command wire, Police said. Also, acting swiftly, SFs detected an IED in an orchard in Panzgam village in Pulwama District on May 31 morning. A Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) was immediately called, and later the IED was defused without causing any damage or loss to life.

Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) Communication ‘Chief’ in Bijapur District of Chhattisgarh and senior leader of Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee (DKSZC), identified as Sobroi alias Gaddam Madhukar alias Mohan, carrying a reward of INR 800,000 over his head and one CPI-Maoist courier were arrested by Telangana Police on Peddammagadda Cross Road close to Mulugu Road in Warangal District of Telangana on June 2, reports Free Press Journal. Gaddam Madhukar and a courier were arrested during a vehicle-check by Police. Madhukar was suffering from Covid-19, had come to Warangal for the treatment with the help of the courier, a minor. Several cases against him were pending in the Police Stations of Bastar Division. Madhukar who hails from Kumaram Bheem Asifabad District in Telangana had joined the Sirpur Dalam (armed squad) of the then People’s War Group (PWG)) in 1999. The Naxal [Left Wing Extremism (LWE)] outfit later shifted him to DKSZC and since then, he was involved in several offences including killing of Police personnel and snatching away their weapons. The CPI-Maoist courier went to Venkatapuram forest area in a car and was bringing Madhukar to Hanamkonda for admission in a hospital. When Police searched the vehicle at the check post, Madhukar was found hiding in the car’s boot. Police arrested both of them and seized INR 88,000 cash. Madhukar was later admitted to a hospital for treatment, said Warangal’s Commissioner of Police, Tarun Joshi. Madhukar informed to Police that a large number of senior Maoist cadres are suffering with COVID-19. But the CPI-Maoist is not allowing them to go outside for better treatment. The cadres in exceptional cases are allowed to go outside for getting better treatment, only after their health condition turns worse. A Police spokesman said that acting on a specific tip off about anti-national activity in the general area of Bandipora, a naka (Police check post) was laid at Putushai by a joint team of 14 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), 3rd Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Police Bandipora. “A suspect, who gave his name as Irshad Ahmad Mir, son of Mohammad Yousuf Mir of Onagam, was approaching the naka in a suspicious manner was waylaid by the joint security forces and his personal search was carried out,” the spokesman said. “During detailed questioning, the person revealed that he was working as an associate of Lashkar-e-Taiba and on basis of his confession one grenade and 50 live AK series rounds were recovered, the statement said, adding that he revealed that the said ammunition was handed over to him to effect a militant strike in the general area of Bandipora”, the spokesman added.

Around 10-12 Naxals [Left Wing Extremism (LWE)] have set ablaze one JCB and one tractor parked at a construction site of a bridge over Binja Nala at Lamkinand in Tokisood village of Patratu Police Station in Ramgarh District of Jharkhand on June 5, reports PrabhatKhabar. Two labourers identified as Raghunandan Prasad Mahato, a resident of Giridih District and Bhunesh Ram, a resident of Chauparan in Hazaribagh District were abused and injured by the Naxals and then fired in the air. Many labourers saved their lives by hiding in nearby forests. Naxals gave a pamphlet to a labourer identified as Munshi Lagnu Mahli to be handed over to their contracter. The engineers of the construction company said that no organization threatened them to stop work or seek levy. A Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadre was killed in an encounter with Security Forces (SFs) in Jhanj reserve forest near Ganjaguda village under Padampur Police limits in Bargarh District of Odisha on June 11 (today) morning, reports Ommcom News. Director General of Police (DGP), Abhay, said that a group of Maoists started firing at a joint team of Special Operation Group (SOG) and District Voluntary Force (DVF) during a combing operation in the area early in the morning. The SFs retaliated and killed one Maoist who was in uniform. An AK-47 rifle, three AK-47 magazines, live ammunition, and other camping materials were recovered from the spot. DGP, Abhay, further said that as the AK-47 rifle is used by senior cadres in the Maoist organisation, the deceased is suspected to be a senior cadre Maoist. A huge cache of arms and ammunition were recovered by Assam Rifles (AR) troops during a search operation carried out at T Mongbung village in Noney District of Manipur on June 11, reports E Pao. Acting on a specific tip off that cadres of Hmar Peoples Convention-Democratic (HPC-D) were moving around in the area, troops of 16 AR based at Keithelmanbi carried out a search operation in and around T Mongbung village at around 4.30 pm. The troops recovered include one AK rifle, two carbines, two .32 pistols and three .22 pistols. All the guns had magazines. In addition, 206 grams of gun powder, 2.55 kilograms of Plastic Explosive Kirkee (PEK), four safety fuses and ammunition of assorted firearms were also recovered from the same spot.

Acting on intelligence inputs about a gathering of armed CPI-Maoist cadres for carrying out subversive activities, a search and area domination operation was launched by SFs in bordering areas of Malkangiri and Koraput Districts in Odisha. When the combing operation was on in the jungle area near Kulabeda village, there was sudden unprovoked firing from the CPI-Maoist cadres. The SFs retaliated and started controlled firing after warning and appealing to the Maoists. However, the Maoists managed to flee the area taking advantage of the jungle and hilly terrain. After the exchange of fire, a search operation was conducted during which the arms and ammunition were seized from the area, said Superintendent of Police (SP) Rishikesh D Khilari. SFs recovered one INSAS (Indian Small Arms System) assault rifle, 19 rounds of 5.56x39 mm ammunition, 15 rounds of 7.62x45 mm ammunition, one AK-47 magazine, two INSAS magazine, four Maoist kit bags, two magazine pouchs, one digital camera, detonators, Improvised Explosive Device (IED) making materials, power banks, medicine and Maoist literature from the site.

Three Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants, including a LeT ‘commander’ identified as Mudasir Pandit, were killed in an encounter with Security Forces (SFs) in the Gund Brath area of Sopore of Baramulla District in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in India on June 20, reports Times Now. The SFs launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in the area following information about the presence of at least three militants, including Pandit. Police also identified another militant killed in this incident as Asrar alias Abdullah, a resident of Pakistan, who is active in North Kashmir since 2018. As per reports, an operation was launched in Uma forests under Gocchapada Police Station limits in Kandhamal District based on intelligence inputs on the presence of Maoists of Kalahandi-Kandhamal-Boudh-Nayagarh (KKBN) Division. During the combing operation, Maoists allegedly opened fire on the SFs, and encounter followed, during which heavy ammunition was reportedly used by the Maoists. Some Maoists are suspected to have been injured when the SFs fired in retaliation.

Police claim to have killed around four Maoists in the encounter, however body of only of them was recovered. A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel sustained injuries in the encounter. Bastar range, Inspector General of Police (IGP), P Sundarraj, said, “A joint team of 222nd and 196th battalion of Central Reserve Police Force from Usoor and Galgam camps, was out on road safety and searching on Tuesday [July 13] when around 3.30 pm an encounter broke out with the rebels. The battle went on for about 45 minutes while reinforcements of Special Task Force [STF] and CRPF were sent to the spot. During the search, security personnel found uniformed body of a Maoist." The IGP said that another man who got injured in the faceoff was identified as Kottam Soma, who is a villager.

Dantewada, Superintendent of Police (SP), Abhishek Pallava, said, “Based on the intelligence inputs about the movement of Maoists in the region, a team of District Reserve Guards (DRG) left on a search operation. There was an encounter at around 6 pm at the hilly terrain of Dholkal and Pedapal. Three Maoists were killed. The bodies have been identified.” The bodies of three Maoists, identified as Birju Kakem, Jaggu Kakem and Ajay Poyami, were recovered from the site. Three country-made firearms, kit bags, a three-kilograms Improvised Explosive Device (IED) and items of daily use were also recovered. Birju, a ‘militia platoon commander’, and Jaggu, ‘deputy chief’ of the ‘Range party committee' of Maoists, were carrying rewards of INR 100,000 each on their heads, the official said.
