Suspected Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres killed newly-elected Mukhiya (village head) identified as Parmanand Tuddu by slitting his throat with a sharp-edged weapon for allegedly defying their diktats in the recently held Panchayat (village level local-self Government institution) polls in Azimganj under Dharhara Police Station limits in Munger District of Bihar late on December 23, reports The New Indian Express. The incident took place a couple of days before the Mukhiya was to be administered oath of office and secrecy at the block headquarters Dharhara. He was elected as Mukhiya of Azimganj Panchayat in the recently held 11-phase election to three-tier Panchayati Raj institutions. Confirming the killing of the Mukhiya, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Nand Ji Prasad said the Mukhiya was attacked by a group of armed men at his native village Mathura late on Thursday [December 23] night, and Police officers from the nearby Police Station have rushed to the spot. Sources said that more than 100 Maoists carrying sophisticated firearms attacked the house of Tudu on the eve of his swearing-in ceremony in his native village Mathura under the Dharhara Police Station. They allegedly surrounded the house and forcibly dragged him out. The attackers then made an 'announcement of death penalty to Tudu on a loudspeaker for contesting the Panchayat election' and then slit his throat, Police said, adds daijiworld.com. After executing the murder, the Maoist group shouted slogans and fled to the nearby forest. At the same time, people demonstrated on December 24 in protest against the murder of newly elected headman Parmanand Tudu and created a ruckus by keeping the dead body on the road, adds prabhatkhabar.com.
